To ask about your nightwear

Prompted because of pics people put on SM “relaxing in my PJs” or “ready for bed and just chilling” in lovely, silky attire which would drive me mad to sleep in, plus a different set each night! So my questions to you are:
Do you have special evening outfits which you then remove for bed?
How many sleep outfits do you have? I have two (plus one ancient backup in case of unimaginable disaster) and wear each for a couple of nights.

I don’t change for the evening, but DH does - he has winter evening wear of jogging bottoms & hoody, summer evening wear of kurta pyjama. He then takes it off for bed & sleeps in a vest.
I just sleep in a series of old t shirts & knickers.

crosspelican · 25/05/2021 10:26

I never wear anything in bed.

I have a couple of nighties - a sort of old school Victorian-looking light cotton one that I LOVE, a silky M&S one, White Company PJ's. I put them on in the morning when I get up to herd the kids.

In the evening I generally wear yoga bottoms and a comfy jumper, but every so often we both have a pang that we aren't cool and sexy any more, and we make an effort to fantastic (to have dinner at home and watch The Bureau...).

I can’t understand why anyone posts pictures of themselves “chilling in pjs” on social media. How utterly dull. Who do they imagine cares?

Well, exactly! But it set me thinking that mine are not fit to be seen 🤣 I used to sleep with nothing on until serious illness about 12 years ago, obviously hospital but then in and out of bed several times a night and never got into the naked habit again

It’s all a show, and the Instagram lifestyle in Covid that I think has prompted such a huge push on comfy lounge wear that can run to £40-50 a set! :o

I generally always change into PJ’s either after tea, or when I get home but I sleep in the top and knickers only and leave the bottoms on the floor! Put them back on in the morning when I make a brew so the neighbours don’t get an eye full of my bum! I couldn’t be doing with these satin marching sets, make me feel sweaty thinking about them!

Meowchickameowmeow · 25/05/2021 11:43

The term 'sleep outfits' is hilarious! I sleep in a pair of knickers and trust me no one wants to see that on social media.

user1471538283 · 25/05/2021 11:47

It depends how cold I am but I tend to hang about in the evenings in my pyjamas and a vest top/tee shirt and then wear knickers in bed. No one wants to see the state of me all set for lounging or bed!

Rainbow321 · 25/05/2021 11:50

I actually own around 15-20 nightwear items , but in actual reality can probably wear 5-6 as others are too small . Sigh.

Mintjulia · 25/05/2021 11:55

If I soak in the bath in the evening, I change into cotton PJ bottoms, a vest top and if it's chilly, a sweater & socks. Designed for maximum comfort. I'm single so don't have to worry about what it looks like. DCs don't notice. Smile

But nothing polyester - too sweaty.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 25/05/2021 11:56

I don't sleep in clothes, I don't know how anyone can! I also don't own lounge wear. Whole categories of clothes I don't need to buy ...

sbhydrogen · 25/05/2021 11:58

I wear a series of t-shirts and pants in bed. Maybe leggings if it's REALLY cold. I never change in the evening, unless my clothes feel dirty.

MorriseysGladioli · 25/05/2021 11:58

A shitty old nighty with fag burns in it.
One is plain navy blue, and the more racy version is the same, but with a floral pocket.

CompleteBarstool · 25/05/2021 11:59

I sleep in a nightshirt/long T-shirt type of thing but wouldn't put this on until I was actually about to get into bed (and certainly wouldn't be photographed in it!!).

During the evening though I might ditch my work trousers or jeans for a comfy pair of yoga pants/loose fit cotton trousers to lie around watching TV or potter around in (again, not photographed!)

Megan2018 · 25/05/2021 12:00

I’ve got about 10 sets, different for different times of year. From shorts with strappy tops to full length snuggly ones.
I wear fleecy PJ bottoms in the house a lot but take them off for bed as they are too warm.

ComtesseDeSpair · 25/05/2021 12:16

I have several pairs of loose yoga / harem pants which I wear with cotton vests and typically wear those around the house between showering after the gym and going to bed. I don’t wear them in bed, I’d swelter to death wearing clothing in bed.

Meruem · 25/05/2021 12:18

I've wfh for a long time (pre pandemic) so wear a mix of loungewear/PJ's through the day and evening. Just depends how I feel, if I'm going out for a walk or whatever. I'm happy to just wear my jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt if I'm just walking locally. I do wear proper clothes if I'm properly going out! At night I change into a short sleeved nightie, I'd be way too hot in anything more but don't like sleeping in nothing. I do have about 6 nighties and wear them each for a couple of days but I only do washing about once a week-10 days as it's just me I'm washing clothes for.

LST · 25/05/2021 12:18

I own loads of pjs. Its all I've worn for over 15 months!

NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 25/05/2021 12:22

I wear pyjamas, although I usually end up undressing myself in my sleep and wake up with no bottoms on and am highly confused first thing in the morning.

Mammymar · 25/05/2021 12:24

I buy lounge wear and wear these after my evening shower. I wear oversized mens tshirts or cotton nightdresses in bed.

speakout · 25/05/2021 12:24

Cotton jammies. Very traditional. Nothing slinky.

Perisoire · 25/05/2021 12:29

I’m one of those slatterns that wears the same pyjamas for a whole week (fresh knickers every day though).

However, love silk jammies. So soft and breathable. 😍

I have collars though (nehru etc). Too stifling.

Perisoire · 25/05/2021 12:30

*I hate

Freecuthbert · 25/05/2021 12:31

I have huge nighties I bought for labour that I still wear, I also wear old t-shirts paired with men's pyjama bottoms. I also have some fluffy pyjamas that I never wear. Sometimes I sleep naked or in a pair of boxers. I look a state but at least I'm comfortable!

Hopeislost · 25/05/2021 12:31

I have 3 sets of long pjs for winter, and 3 sets of short pjs for summer. I wear a set for a couple of nights and put them on before bed. I can't wear nighties due to a shitbag ex.

StarlightLady · 25/05/2021 12:52

Evenings in: Cooler weather, Leggings and a top. Warmer weather, a loose dress (for a loose woman?😂) often with nothing underneath is as near as l get to so called loungewear.

Bed time: Always sleep naked. I have a long tee for emergencies but that is at the bottom of a drawer somewhere.
