To ask about your nightwear

Prompted because of pics people put on SM “relaxing in my PJs” or “ready for bed and just chilling” in lovely, silky attire which would drive me mad to sleep in, plus a different set each night! So my questions to you are:
Do you have special evening outfits which you then remove for bed?
How many sleep outfits do you have? I have two (plus one ancient backup in case of unimaginable disaster) and wear each for a couple of nights.

Men's PJs usually, they tend to have decent pockets in the trousers and top. I like the fit as they larger in the shoulders with slimmer hips which fits me better than most women's sizing. Fortunately I also like plaid.

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/05/2021 17:29

I have around 15 pairs of pjs, some shorts and vest, some fleece and long sleeved top and everything in between.
I always wear them to bed.

AnyWhore · 25/05/2021 17:40

I have winter nighties and summer nighties. My winter ones are large tee-shirt style ones. I noticed a couple of days ago my cats have torn small holes in them so no photographs of me will be taken in them. The summer ones are basically sacks with thin straps attached to them. I can't sleep in the raw due to cat attention and demands for breakfast at 4am.

MorriseysGladioli · 25/05/2021 18:04

Sacks with straps. Smile
My kind of things.

LakieLady · 25/05/2021 18:32

Unless it's very cold, I sleep in my skin.

In cold weather, I wear cotton jersey pj's (some very lighweight, some thicker for when it's really cold, sometimes in a jersey night shirt or oversized t-shirt. I put the pj's on when I get up, for decency's sake. I'm slow to wake up and I have to sit on the sofa for an hour and drink lots of tea before I can face getting ready for work.

I also have one fine cotton lawn old-fashioned nightdress, which I love but only put on for the sake of decency when I need to cover up and the weather is warm. I also have a pair of incredibly warm fleece pyjamas, bought for camping, that came in handy when the boile packed up on Christmas Eve a few years ago and we couldn't get it fixed till the new year.

In the evening, I change from my trousers or jeans to yoga trousers to relax in, and throw on a t-shirt or something if I've been wearing a smart top.

I'm getting a new knee in a few months, and this thread has made me wonder if pj's in hospital might be a hassle if they need to get to my leg. Maybe I should get a couple of decent nightdresses as well.

I’m normally in the nip to sleep. But I do own several pairs of pjs and fancier lounging attire that I wear in the evening. Or all day.

Nicklebox · 25/05/2021 18:40

I despair trying to find a comfortable nightie they all seem to twist around you and feel to tight under the arms. I don't like pj's they make me too hot and i don't like wearing knickers in bed. Probably would sleep best in just a longish tee shirt. Also at an age where i have night sweats and wake up soaked, so need a spare top by the bed for when that happens.

Inmypjsagain · 25/05/2021 18:46

I get changed when I come home out of work wear into comfy clothes- leggings or tracksuit bottoms with to a baggy T-shirt or something. It’s not “lounge wear” but just round the house clothes.

I probably have about15 pj bottoms- long and shorts and my pj tops are my husband’s old T-shirts- so I wear a clean outfit (!) every night. I do have matching sets that I’ve got for Christmas but I rarely wear matching!

Gatehouse77 · 25/05/2021 18:54

None of us ever change in the evenings per se. When DH was travelling or wearing a shirt (!) he'd sometimes change but not often.

DH and I sleep in the nude and only wear PJs in the day if we're having a lazy morning and not showering first thing or are up in the night with insomnia and don't want to disturb the other one. But that means PJ bottoms and T-shirts that are too knackered for day wear. I can't remember the last time either of us bought a 'set'.

MinnieMountain · 25/05/2021 19:25

I’ve got 2 pairs of jersey cotton pyjamas that I generally wear in the evening, but in bed if it’s particularly cold. Otherwise I’m naked in bed.

I also keep an old M&S nightie next to the bed in case our 7yo comes in for a cuddle.

Men’s PJs sound like a great idea.

ThatsNotMyReindeer · 25/05/2021 19:28

I have a few options of maternity night dresses (DS is now 3 and I'm just fat) and leggings

TabithaTiger · 25/05/2021 19:37

I have a couple of pairs of comfy cotton pjs that I wear in the evening. I sleep in a pair of knickers and a vest too, anything else makes me too hot.

Lulu1919 · 25/05/2021 19:38

I come home from work
Work clothes off ( inc my bra ) and change into
T shirt and long cotton pj style trousers or shorts in summer
After my bath..night shirt n clean cotton knickers go on ,that I will then sleep in !

BananaBoatFeet · 25/05/2021 19:47

I have various combinations of Pajamas and nighties and buying them is as much the norm as buying new clothes.

I also have underskirts in various lengths, colours and fabrics that I wear routinely. I’d never wear a dress or skirt without one unless they were lined.

I love my Pajama drawers as well as my underskirts one.

TillyTopper · 25/05/2021 19:49

I have 2 nightdresses, both the same. They are v neck and sleeveless and too big (so they are comfortable) and made of stretchy cotton. If I come down in my nightie in the morning I wear a big knitted jumper! I hope none of that ever gets on to social media.

Devonchills · 25/05/2021 19:55

I wear old cropped leggings I've had for years and a vest top. I have 2 sets of these and just keep swapping them over. They're threadbare now, but so comfy!

IJustWantSomeBees · 25/05/2021 20:08

Yes, I have both loungeware and nightware. Since I spend most of my time at home I like to invest in suitable, luxurios home clothes. I have around 5 sets of loungeware and nightware, respectively.

Wrenna · 25/05/2021 20:10

I do change into relaxing clothes in the evening - leggings & soft shirt in fall/winter/spring, shorts & soft shirt summer. I’m forever looking for comfortable tops that you can’t tell I’m not wearing a bra in because I have a teen boy at home that has his friends over regularly but I’ll be darned if I’m not going to be comfortable in my own home. That goes for FIL too when they are in town.

Winter I sleep in nightgown that looks like a big t-shirt with short sleeves. Spring and Fall I wear a sleeveless version. Summer I wear the absolute barest minimum nightgown as it’s very hot here even with air conditioning.

copernicium · 25/05/2021 21:35

Generally don't change into pjs before bed unless I'm cold / wet / been wearing a dress. I've got 3 or 4 pairs of flowery cotton pj bottoms that I wear with a vest top. But only vest top and pants in bed. Love wearing pjs for hours on weekend mornings if we have no plans though!

FangsForTheMemory · 25/05/2021 21:44

I have nightdresses for wearing in bed. This really dates from when I lived in a second floor flat on a bus route and wanted to be able to wander around without worrying about people looking in through the window. (There was a bus stop right outside my flat).

GladAllOver · 25/05/2021 21:51

Straight from shower into bed, no clothes. I could never understand getting dressed again to get into bed.

sansou · 25/05/2021 22:23

I have a few pairs of Hush PJ bottoms that are quite old - bought back in the day when they basically just sold PJs and I religiously bought a pair in the Jan sales. Still love my beehive patterned ones plus my favourite Boden foxhead print ones. I favour a grey dolman sleeve Gap sweatshirt top - creature of habit.

Pascha · 25/05/2021 22:27

Nothing in bed for me but I do keep a vest and shorts hanging over the end of the bed in case our bed is invaded by children.

I do have some pj bottoms for weekend mornings though, just plain jersey jogger style.

Gilead · 25/05/2021 22:38

Currently in hospital, there is a Muslim woman next to me in the most beautiful silk pyjamas. I’m excessively jealous!

Mowly75 · 25/05/2021 22:39

Let’s turn this thinking around. Today: I took to the cat to the vets; went swimming; popped into doctors; went to Tesco; and then the pub. All while wearing my pyjamas. A thin strapped jumpsuit thing from Gap. I don’t care how unhygienic Mumsnet thinks it it is it was glorious. They are now in wash and am bathed & in clean set for bed.
