To want him to go to A&E?

Stimult · 23/05/2021 15:44

Earlier my partner knocked his hand on the worktop in the kitchen. His knuckle is now swollen and he said it's painful. He won't go to A&E though as he says he's ‘fine’.

Aibu to insist he goes?

Does he have the full range of movement of his hand ?
Has he iced it ?

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/05/2021 15:46

If he says he's fine, no point going to a & e.

Biker47 · 23/05/2021 15:47

Only knocked his hand on the counter and you want him to go to A&E, are you taking the piss?

YellowPurple · 23/05/2021 15:47

Just a swollen knuckle?
Up to him surely? As a sound of mind adult

If you got lots of ‘A&E now’

Would you show him, Would it make a difference?

ImInStealthMode · 23/05/2021 15:47

Assuming he's an adult and is not bleeding, choking, unconscious, struggling to breathe, in absolute agony or having unexplained chest pains I think it's fair that he can make his own mind up about a minor injury.

I certainly wouldn't dash to A&E with that kind of injury unless it were unbearably painful. If it were still swollen and as painful the following day I might.

YellowPurple · 23/05/2021 15:48

Aibu to insist he goes???

Have you the authority?

AnneLovesGilbert · 23/05/2021 15:48

YABU to insist. He knows how it feels and he’s an adult.

What’s doing to help himself? Pain meds? Icing it?

He’ll be there the rest of the day. Unless he’s sure he’s broken something I’d steer well clear.

Pinkblueberry · 23/05/2021 15:48

Give 111 a ring first before rushing to A and E.

NewMatress · 23/05/2021 15:49

No. If it's still swollen in a couple of days, minor injuries if you have one or A&E then.

Plus, he's a grown up, he gets to decide.

Boscoforever · 23/05/2021 15:49

If you bang yourself it is a normal reaction to have swelling and pain. This is your body's response to that knock. Over the next few days, it will heal itself.
If it isn't improving I would have it looked at. What you're describing sounds normal.
The human body is really very good at healing itself sounds like he is using common sense.

TheVolturi · 23/05/2021 15:50

Unless he punched the worktop it will probably be OK.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 23/05/2021 15:51

WTAF? Tell him to take some OTC pain relief and ice it and see how it goes. He's an adult! He rapped his hand on a worktop, FFS. Doesn't need A&E or 111 for a swollen knuckle.

OverByYer · 23/05/2021 15:51

If it was a bang in the head and he knocked himself out maybe. But a bang on th knuckles? Calm down. He’s a grown up let him decide

myhobbyisouting · 23/05/2021 15:53

Banged his hand? No wonder A&E are in such a mess

FourTeaFallOut · 23/05/2021 15:53

He's a grown adult, leave him alone.

Stimult · 23/05/2021 15:54

@DinosaurDiana

Does he have the full range of movement of his hand ? Has he iced it ?
Yes, he's iced it. He can't bend his little finger all the way

😂😂😂

Darkstar4855 · 23/05/2021 15:55

YABU. This is what minor injuries units are for.

janlevinson · 23/05/2021 15:56

@Biker47

This x 100
WhatATimeToBeAlive · 23/05/2021 15:56

Couple of paracetomol will sort him out.

UCOinanOCG · 23/05/2021 15:57

I am sure it is fine. It is unlikely to need A&E. You can reassess tomorrow.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 23/05/2021 15:57

Yes, he's iced it. He can't bend his little finger all the way

So what? Ice some more, take OTC pain relief. FFS.

FourTeaFallOut · 23/05/2021 15:58

He can reassess tomorrow, surely?

AgentProvocateur · 23/05/2021 15:58

😂 A & E? Tell him to take a paracetamol

NewMatress · 23/05/2021 15:59

Yes, he's iced it. He can't bend his little finger all the way

Did you read that back Grin

What do you think A&E would do?
