To want him to go to A&E?

Earlier my partner knocked his hand on the worktop in the kitchen. His knuckle is now swollen and he said it's painful. He won't go to A&E though as he says he's ‘fine’.

Aibu to insist he goes?

All these people telling you A&E is inappropriate are being arseholes. I imagine he did more than knock it therefore could have broken it and yes sometimes these injuries do need surgery (so ignore “they never do anything with broken fingers”)
FORCING him to go is unreasonable as he is an adult but it would be entirely reasonable for him to go should he wish if there is no minor injuries unit.
The clue is in the name accident and emergency

Definitely go to a&e, you'll be there until at least 2 am. Good luck!

fourminutestosavetheworld · 23/05/2021 19:58

They wouldn't do anything that you can't do yourself.

A&E is for situations that are threat to life or limb. Do you think he's going to either lose his arm or die?

My dh, bf at the time, had an accident involving his hand, nothing major, went out that night, next day complaining of ot being sore, following day family insisted he went to a&e and he had broken a bone im his hand. He had full function. The clue to the break was brusing from back of hand through to the palm.
What i am saying is, no urgency on going tonight unless in lots of pain but can always rethink in a few days if getting worse/no better.

Some people are so rude, why are you being so nasty to the OP, what’s wrong with you?
Hopefully ice and painkillers will help OP but see how things look in the morning.

@Stimult

I was only asking, there's no need for some of these replies Hmm
What did you expect?! 😂
vodkaredbullgirl · 23/05/2021 21:53

How is his hand now?

OwlBeThere · 23/05/2021 21:58

@Suzi888

I’m sure nothing can be done for a broken finger, I could be wrong. Ring 111. YABU to just go to A&E.
That’s not necessarily true, it does depend on where the break is etc, I had to have surgery for mine as it was so displaced and affected my knuckle. But in most cases they just strap them up and send you on your way.

Dp is a tradesman, you should see the injuries he comes home with. .. going to hospital with a swollen knuckle because he knocked it on the counter is very ott!

THAT IS NOT TRUE! (I work there btw)
