To want him to go to A&E?

Earlier my partner knocked his hand on the worktop in the kitchen. His knuckle is now swollen and he said it's painful. He won't go to A&E though as he says he's ‘fine’.

Aibu to insist he goes?

I’m sure nothing can be done for a broken finger, I could be wrong. Ring 111.
YABU to just go to A&E.

Redglitter · 23/05/2021 17:16

Hes an adult. He knows how his hand feels & says he doesn't need A&E. Leave it at that

How are you going force him to go exactly anyway ?

ANiceCupOfCoffee · 23/05/2021 17:17

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles

If there is no 'minor injuries unit' nearby they may able to get an air ambulance to you.

Could you perhaps layout a big H on the lawn with bedsheets?

Grin

Don’t be stupid.

A&e is for accidents as well as emergencies. If there’s no minor injury nearby, where else do you go?

OP, if it were me, I’d monitor it and see how it is over the next few days.

Crispychillibeef · 23/05/2021 17:19

Well you did ask if you were being unreasonable...

Surely the injured person decides whether they need A&E?

janlevinson · 23/05/2021 17:38

@VaguelyInteresting

No, OP. That’s not an A&E situation.

It’s barely worthy of comment- unless in a MASSIVE drip feed, it turns out his job is catalogue model and he’s doing tea sets tomorrow, which require full extension of the little finger.

🤣🤣🤣
TableFlowerss · 23/05/2021 17:42

@myhobbyisouting

Banged his hand? No wonder A&E are in such a mess
This
Shezlon · 23/05/2021 17:44

Leave it and see if it improves over the next couple of days. I banged my little finger weeks ago and left it a week or so before going to minor injuries and that was only because the pain hadn't got any better. Still wasn't broken.
Minor injuries said if you've damaged your ligaments to expect pain for 2-3 weeks.

Crappyfridays7 · 23/05/2021 17:52

Ice it, elevate it and take some brufen and or paracetamol for pain see how he goes. If the finger is pink warm and doesn’t have reduced sensation I’m sure it’s fine, sore but fine. If it’s broken they’ll only buddy strap it to the next finger anyway. I’ve broken my pinky twice and some bones in my hand that’s all they did, was hardly worth going to minor injuries for tbh. Sure he’ll be fine op

1forAll74 · 23/05/2021 18:01

No way would I go to A&E for something like that. people are always knocking their hands, wrists and knuckles and knees,and getting swelling and bruising afterwards, Things will usually subside after a while. It would be different if he had cut the end of his finger off,

cocoloco987 · 23/05/2021 18:10

A&E? Absolutely not. I'd not even bother a pharmacist for a swollen knuckle knocked on a kitchen worktop 😆

FeatheredHope · 23/05/2021 18:11

You are the person that other people with legitimate emergency medical needs hate in A&E

TokyoSushi · 23/05/2021 18:13

Rest, ice, paracetamol, see how it goes.

Are you sure that he 'knocked' it, and there's nothing more going on here?

cocoloco987 · 23/05/2021 18:14

A&e is for accidents as well as emergencies. If there’s no minor injury nearby, where else do you go?

Not banging fingers in counter top accidents. Where you would go for that is Asda for a pack of ibuprofen!

Sisisimone · 23/05/2021 18:15

WTF. This isn't serious surely?

Sisisimone · 23/05/2021 18:15

What would you expect them to do in A&E with his swollen knuckle OP? Kiss it better maybe

catgirl1976 · 23/05/2021 18:17

Why on earth would he go to A and E? Even if he’s broken his finger they will only strap it up which he can do at home.

If it starts going green and looks like it’s going to drop off in a day or two then go but otherwise YABU

wildeverose · 23/05/2021 18:18

A&E do nothing for a broken finger. Seriously, it's as someone said - not even worth a post. What do you think they will do?

Stimult · 23/05/2021 18:20

@TokyoSushi

Rest, ice, paracetamol, see how it goes.

Are you sure that he 'knocked' it, and there's nothing more going on here?

I don't known as I wasn't there, but I'm not sure he'd lie about what happened
OP posts:
DotBall · 23/05/2021 18:27

Ah ye gods, totally unreasonable.

Having said that, he might be like an ex-colleague of mine who tripped and fell, banging their little finger.

An impressive shoulder bandage and 6 WEEKS off work was the result of that, and yes, he was judged MASSIVELY by everyone picking up the slack.

Lolwhat · 23/05/2021 18:34

A&e is for emergencies not a swollen knuckle😱 maybe walk in centre or minor injuries tomorrow if he can’t get a GP appointment, he said he’s fine though

Silvercatowner · 23/05/2021 19:43

I bet if the first response had been 'A&E now' the subsequent posts would have been very different.

HerMammy · 23/05/2021 19:47

@VaguelyInteresting
😂😂😂

This is my pet hate, ppl clogging up A&E unneccessarily.

cocoloco987 · 23/05/2021 19:48

I bet if the first response had been 'A&E now' the subsequent posts would have been very different.

For a sore knuckle - don't be daft! 😆

zingally · 23/05/2021 19:51

It's a knocked knuckle. It's fine. Plus a grown-up can make their own decision.

NautaOcts · 23/05/2021 19:53

I wouldn’t go for that
And especially not without speaking to 111 first or going on their website
