How often do you eat meat?

I significantly reduced my meat consumption a couple of years ago, now having it about once a month. Planning to increase it again though, to once or twice a week, to boost heme iron.

How often do you eat meat? Have you ever reduced/ increased, and did you feel any different?

Every meal, unless it's just the most brief of snacks.

We go to an all-you-can-eat meat restaurant once or twice a week.

FourEyesGood · 22/05/2021 16:08

Once or twice a week. I generally prefer to cook and eat vegetarian meals, but I’m not vegetarian.

Hoppinggreen · 22/05/2021 16:08

Maybe twice a week but some weeks none at all.
I don’t like big lumps of meat but a ham sarnie or chicken salad is ok.
It started after DD went veggie and to make things easier we all cut down and then I found I didn’t really miss it.
If I fancy meat I will have it but we are probably 90% vegetarian

ConsuelaHammock · 22/05/2021 16:08

Most days.

ConsuelaHammock · 22/05/2021 16:09

I’m married to a beef farmer though so would be rather hypocritical not to eat red meat.

ZooeyS · 22/05/2021 16:10

Once every two or three weeks. Only ever a chicken, properly free range and from a local farm. I don’t make a fuss if I’m served meat but my preference is very much vegetarian.

Asdf12345 · 22/05/2021 16:10

Most days. Perhaps one day a week or so without depending what we fancy.

stormy11 · 22/05/2021 16:11

Tbh I have increased my meat intake as I am trying to lose weight. My body reacts well to higher protein/less carb diet.

I tried to go vegan a few years ago but it made me feel very unwell. I love the idea of vegan and vegetarian and still happy to have those types of meals.

Maybe once I have got to where I want to be I will try it again. How did you feel op when you cut down on meat?

Strokethefurrywall · 22/05/2021 16:11

Once/twice a month maybe. I reduced my intake to zero for a long time, found my asthma pretty much disappeared.

I go through fits and starts though, some times I’ll eat it pretty regularly, other times I’ll go 3-4 months without it or cheese.

Chicken about twice a week

Red meat about every 10 days but sometimes I get a craving for it and eat it two days in a row.

Ylvamoon · 22/05/2021 16:13

I changed my diet a few years ago, to no factory processed foods 98% of the time (in other words what I cook, eat & drink at home).
As part of this is buying organic meat from a local farm shop. To make it affordable, for a family of 4, we only have 1-2 meat dishes/ week.

The rest is veggie or even vegan (just because I like the recipe)
Sometimes we have fish but very rarely.

Feeling great on this diet and highly recommend it it.

Planty13 · 22/05/2021 16:14

I had chicken about 3 months ago. Before that it had been over a year.

Inextremis · 22/05/2021 16:18

Usually in about 4 or 5 meals a week - breakfast and lunch are mostly meat-free, but DH enjoys meat more than I do, so I cook it for dinner most days - and always a roast 'something' on one of the weekend days.

tattleandbagels · 22/05/2021 16:19

Every day, I try to limit to once a day and not have meat at lunch and diner. I don't like my kids to have a big meal in the evening.

Whanganui · 22/05/2021 16:24

Every day, as much as I enjoy baked or roast veg I wouldn't want it as a main diet.

dontblameme · 22/05/2021 16:25

Vegetarian since aged 13, now mostly vegan as vegan choices have got so good and easy to find. I do take a daily multivitamin and iron tablet though.

ComtesseDeSpair · 22/05/2021 16:25

Every day. I don’t enjoy cooking and I find it much easier to pan fry a steak to eat with a salad or throw a chicken and some root vegetables in the oven to roast than to faff about with recipes and different types of lentil / pulse / vegetables concoction.

I did try to cut down meat and eat more vegetarian meals a couple of years ago but it made me bloated and windy. I thought that would pass once my body was used to it after a couple of weeks, but when I was still feeling awful after over a month I packed it in.

Meruem · 22/05/2021 16:28

Most days. I don’t eat lunch so it’s just dinner, but the only veggie meal I can think of that I eat is macaroni cheese. It’s not always a lot of meat, tonight is pepperoni pizza, but it is virtually every day. I’m fine with that. I like meat and have no intention of cutting it down or giving it up.

Merchymor · 22/05/2021 16:32

Never. Have never eaten it and don't have any deficiencies, my iron levels have always been good.

JackieTheFart · 22/05/2021 16:40

Most days, although I am trying to incorporate more vegetarian meals into our diets, more for cost reasons than anything else.

skirk64 · 22/05/2021 16:41

Usually twice per day, a sandwich for lunch (usually corned beef or ham) and then meat for dinner. Obviously sometimes I feel like something different for lunch or have macaroni cheese for dinner so no meat then. I guess on average about 12 times per week.

PaperMonster · 22/05/2021 16:42

Most days.

sophiasnail · 22/05/2021 16:44

Twice a day most days. Pretty much everyone I know is the same.

00100001 · 22/05/2021 16:45

3-4 days a week

Spekoppar · 22/05/2021 16:47

Went vegan a few so never now. Before that it was once or twice a week.
