How often do you eat meat?

I significantly reduced my meat consumption a couple of years ago, now having it about once a month. Planning to increase it again though, to once or twice a week, to boost heme iron.

How often do you eat meat? Have you ever reduced/ increased, and did you feel any different?

Few months ago

FangsForTheMemory · 22/05/2021 16:48

I eat meat more or less every day but often not in big quantities. Today for example, I had two slices of smoked ham, but I won't be eating more meat. Yesterday I had a chicken biryani from Sainsbury's and that was the only meat I ate.

Every day

londonrach · 22/05/2021 16:50

Everyday like everyone I know. Not lumps of meat just a balanced meal. Tbh the only person I know who's vegan is now fighting a very awful cancer so thinking everything in moderation. I do love a jacket potato with cheese with rocket salad for lunch though rather than sandwiches. Don't eat beef as its not to my taste.

redcandlelight · 22/05/2021 16:50

meat - once a week. mainly low impact meat (chicken, turkey)
dc and dh will have cooked ham for their lunch very ocassionally.

NoPinkPlease · 22/05/2021 16:58

Never, I'm vegan (for the past 3.5 years) and veggie for 26 years before that. I never miss it and am pretty healthy so far.

Gyoza · 22/05/2021 17:02

Once or twice a week, trying to reduce meat consumption for environmental reasons but feel like we have a good balance. Had blood tests recently and iron levels are fine. When I stay with family who meat everyday it messes with my digestive system and I quickly feel very bunged up.

AlmostSummer21 · 22/05/2021 17:03

Never. Last ate meat/fish 32 years ago.

DinosApple · 22/05/2021 17:14

Meat 2 times a week. Usually a chili or Bolognese and sausages.
Rest is vegetarian.

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 22/05/2021 17:16

Never and my iron levels are great... they didnt even drop during pregnancy much to the amazement of my midwife.

CPsRus · 22/05/2021 17:16

Never, literally never. Not even in the womb. Fish neither. I’m ok!

AIMummy · 22/05/2021 17:17

I used to eat it 1 or 2 times a week but a few years ago I was diagnosed with PCOS and changed my diet. I upped my intake to fish/meat once a day and feel much better for it tbh.

SpeckledyHen · 22/05/2021 17:17

Never . Last eaten 47 years ago .

gamerchick · 22/05/2021 17:19

Daily. No intentions of stopping either.

SpeckledyHen · 22/05/2021 17:19

Forgot to say never iron deficient, even during 2 pregnancies with hyperemesis .

cariadlet · 22/05/2021 17:20

Never. I've been vegan for about 30 years and was veggie for about 10 years before going vegan.

I haven't had meat since primary school so don't really remember what it tastes like or if I feel any different.

LubaLuca · 22/05/2021 17:21

Once a week, often not even that. I'm not a great fan, can take or leave it, and never eat cold or processed meats. I'm anaemic.

DataColour · 22/05/2021 17:22

About twice a week as part of dinner. Hardly ever have meat for lunch or breakfast. Fish about 2-3 times and veggie the rest of the time.

purpleleotard · 22/05/2021 17:22

Once by accident in the last 35 years

AbsentmindedWoman · 22/05/2021 17:22

Interesting, thank you. Quite a wide range of responses.

I really enjoy meat, but also really keen on veggie and vegan dishes - there's not much I don't like when it comes to eating Grin

My iron has dipped even lower in the last year and I'm more tired, and suspect adding more portions of heme iron might help.

Never. Vegetarian since birth.

NCtilidie · 22/05/2021 17:23

Never and iron etc is fine (I know because I give blood).

Hagqueen · 22/05/2021 17:23

Chicken around 5 days a week, usually once. Any other meat, such as burgers/bacon etc probably about 3 times a month, mostly when out/takeaways.

I work in the industry so understand the processes better than the average person so try to eat only meat that I know the source, rearing and preparation of.

ZoeMaye · 22/05/2021 17:25

Most days. My DC it's usually every day, and often more than once. They like meat, potato and veg type meals but I quite like salads, soups, stews, more veg based fare. I also like to have cheese or eggs a lot, so I will have a cheese omelette while they have sausages, or I'll have pasta with veg and cheese sauce, and they'll have Bolognese

NotImpossible · 22/05/2021 17:25

Never. Not for 25+ years. No issues with iron etc (been checked a few times for various unrelated resons but always fine).
