Or do you know someone that is? I'm curious how many real life people are actually on it.

I'm not a journo, the Daily mail is a shit rag.

This is where my issue with 'it's her choice' comes from. Not everything women choose to do is good for women

I’d argue that men signing up for the army isn’t good for men, as a demographic. It perpetuates the idea as men as inherently violent beings, and being capable of aggression as a key male attribute. Shooting and being shot at in foreign countries, often for less than noble reasons, isn’t a career path I’d recommend as a teacher to any boy. But we live in a free society, and lots of men do choose that as their job and apparently enjoy it.[/quote]
Maintaining an army to defend the country is a necessary evil which if ever needed would hopefully ultimately benefit us all, male and female. I don't feel the same way about pornography.

Potteringshed · 21/05/2021 15:57

I know someone who is on it. She does that alongside a part time job. She started it when she wasn't able to work due to disability reasons and has been fairly open about finding OnlyFans dramatically nicer than dealing with UC. As her health has improved she has started working part time again.

@Grellbunt

Madonna/Whore dichotomy:

Discuss

Girls/women with strong boundaries seen as "above it"/LTR or marriage "material", and others by choice or necessity deemed mere objects?

Except when porn users expect their wives to re-create porn scenarios in the marriage bedroom, much to their distress and confusion, under threat of being deemed frigid and to blame if an affair ensues; and magazines for modern, young, cosmopolitan women, like Teen Vogue, provide instructional articles on how to receive anal penetration and partake in other aspects of porn culture. I think the Madonna/whore line has been heavily blurred, and there's a real push by big tech and other interested industries to make us all whores for the gratification of males.

@purpleboy
It's really depressing to see the next generation falling for this as empowering. What are we teaching our young girls?

Because new wave feminists have left most people behind. They’ve endlessly focused on things like the pay gap which doesn’t actually mean anything. Rather than on just, say, a decent minimum wage across the board for men and women. (and of course more women work minimum wage than men). Something actually achievable. That would make millions of peoples lives better and mean they don’t need to do degrading work.

Or focussing on getting fathers to pay decent child support? And supporting women to feel they can demand it?

beguilingeyes · 21/05/2021 16:04

Only a few made it into The Sun or The Star, but how many more thought that 'glamour modelling' was the route to fortune and ended up doing something more seedy.

MissScotland101 · 21/05/2021 16:07

My good friend is on it and she has 6 fansGrin she has admitted that she doesn’t put much work into it but makes on average an extra £100 a month, which isn’t bad considering she only puts some pics up without conversing, I am thinking about doing it for extra cash, my hours at work have been cut and I can’t really afford it nor do I want another job as I won’t have much time for pleasure so I may give it a try, I work out and if I do say do myself then my body is pretty good and for my age!Grin

I agree that would be a necessary evil. But that’s not what the army usually spends up doing. What they often end up doing is killing innocent people, including children, or otherwise people who believe they are justly defending their country from an invading force. See the thousands dead in Iraq, Afghanistan, N.Ireland, Vietnam, etc. Senseless killing on behalf of self-interested oil/power hungry governments is degrading and dehumanizing in the extreme.

@FireWafer

I think there are some really judgy comments on here. I know a couple of people who are on there and they make pretty good money. It is not porn at all. One is a single mum who is just desperately trying to provide for her children and works 2 other jobs as well as posting on there. I take my hat off to her! What she chooses to do behind closed doors and non of anyone elses business. If I didn't look like miss piggy I'd be up for it but alas I am chubby and fart too much!
My friend is a 14-16 and makes a little money and that’s only because she isn’t fully committed to it, not all men want slim women.Smile
apalledandshocked · 21/05/2021 16:11

@YouShouldLeave

It’s interesting that those who knows someone with an OF is apparently raking it in, when average pay is 180$ per month.
I always feel suspcious when I hear the "bought her own house, has a fab new car, can work part time which means she spends more time with her kids" because it matches so closely with MLM spiel.

Basically, JuicePlus with boobs.

apalledandshocked · 21/05/2021 16:13

Sorry, obviously I missed out "makes a little, but thats because she isnt isnt fully committed". Identical to MLM speak.

HopingForRainbow2021 · 21/05/2021 16:15

I fought the urge to name change here - because there have already been some incredibly judgemental posts. But I am on Only Fans yes. I have worked as a model for studio events and various things for years, and now use OF to boost my income from home. I pay my taxes, shoot content myself, and have the full support of my lovely husband :)

dayslikethese1 · 21/05/2021 16:15

Interesting, I didn't know OF worked like an MLM?

HopingForRainbow2021 · 21/05/2021 16:16

And for those interested in income - currently around £1300 per month.

HumousWhereTheHeartIs · 21/05/2021 16:20

I find it quite shocking that that women are being praised or defended for doing this - unless I am massively ill-informed about the site. It is exploitation.

CardinalLolzy · 21/05/2021 16:20

There was a brilliant BBC3 documentary called Nudes4Sale I'd encourage everyone to watch. There's a real problem with underage kids.
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p087m1nh

In an age where social media is absolutely everywhere there is a new growing trend: #Nudes4Sale.

This phenomenon has been growing quietly for the past three years, but is now creeping into the mainstream. Reporter Ellie Flynn investigates how thousands of ordinary people and teenagers all across the world are making money from selling their own nude photos and videos.

But how many people creating content for these sites are actually underage, and should the sites themselves be doing more to protect underage and vulnerable contributors?

Ellie meets Hannah, a 17-year-old from Scotland, who has been selling explicit content of herself since she was 16. Hannah set up an account on a site called OnlyFans using a fake ID. She was reported for being under 18 and kicked off the site but managed to set up a new profile and continue selling nudes.

Lauren, 23, is one of the top-ranked Only Fans creators in the world. She has over 2,000 subscribers and over 400,000 followers on Instagram. In one month alone, Lauren earned a jaw-dropping £37,000 - a figure she says is going up every month.

But not everyone is making a decent living. Some vulnerable people find themselves using sites like these to help put a roof over their heads. Sasha is 20 and earns a few hundred pounds a month on OnlyFans. She uses sex toys, collaborates with other performers and has even had requests to make videos of herself going to the toilet for £50-£60. Sasha has a history of mental health issues and turns to the local council to help her find suitable accommodation when she decides to leave home. But the council can’t help, and Sasha finds herself effectively homeless. She is left thinking about what she might have to do to put a roof over her head, and with sites like OnlyFans at her fingertips, that thought could be scary.

dayslikethese1 · 21/05/2021 16:21

The thing that concerns me though is; if sex work is just work (as we are often told) and is getting more and more normalised over time, how long before the DWP compel women to take on sex work as that's what is available to them. I could envisage a future where that happens when you try and claim UC as a jobseeker or even if you can't work a 'normal' job due to health conditions etc.

MissScotland101 · 21/05/2021 16:23

@HopingForRainbow2021

Brilliant! Well done you!

Your post has now made me determined to do it!!Grin

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 21/05/2021 16:24

I'm not sure if she's on only fans because she's now a married mother of two, but someone I went through junior school and senior school with was doing porn pictures and videos - nothing 'mainstream' apparently but local stuff sold on the net where she'd do the her ... stuff... in the local woods and be filmed doing it and meeting with likeminded people.

She wasn't shy in the slightest about it and used to post her glamour pictures on facebook - complete with everything on show . She got banned several times on facebook when her pictures were reported and would just join with another name and do it all again.

The thing that actually did weird me out though was that her mum and little sisters were facebook friends every time! And there were literal see everything pictures.

Grellbunt · 21/05/2021 16:26

Wasn't expecting such a fantastic analysis!!! Brava.

LaBellina · 21/05/2021 16:28

One of my friends is.
She’s making lots of money.

Some weirdo paid her $150 to piss for him on her bathroom floor and take a picture of it. Vile, but easy money.

SofiaMichelle · 21/05/2021 16:28

My DD's friend S is on OF.

S had a decent job in the NHS but didn't like shift work (who does?) so decided to try it. It also means of course that she can do her thing at home which I know will have attracted her as she has always been very shy/anxious - known her since she and DD started secondary school - as bizarre as that sounds for someone showing themselves off like this.

Or maybe that's the attraction? She is only seen by people who have to pay for the privilege so she gets validation??

I will ask DD when I next see her but I'm sure she said S had over 100,000 followers on Instagram and something else, and definitely averages over 500 paying subscribers on OF at £10+ per month.

And it's 99% just her posing in fitness attire, and then the odd underwear piece. I have to say S really bloomed at around the time they left high school and she's absolutely stunning - I mean truly 'top model' perfect looks and figure, with no airbrushing needed, which I'm sure helps...

Good for her, is my opinion.

It’s just a shame that people think that they have to sell themselves for money. As for the single mum, they are the main demographic - women who are vulnerable and need to make money to keep afloat. No judgement on the women who do this, lots of judgement on the society that thinks sex work is absolutely fine and bodies are commodities to be bought and sold.

This is why the mantra is ridiculous and sinister. In no other job is one's body the product that is for sale. I can see it now:

"Well, Miss Female, you have turned down 4 perfectly empowering, respectful, decent jobs at local brothels; so if you can't afford to eat that's a you problem".

IJustWantSomeBees · 21/05/2021 16:33

Plus, since no one is paying for dick, girls/women would be disproportionately siphened into sex work, with the non-sex work jobs being given to men as a priority. Women would literally be turned into a sex class if the 'sex work is work' mantra was legally recongnised. And of course, it would be poor women and women of colour who would be most greatly affected by this.
