Where the washing up goes

I know it may sound ridiculous but this is pretty much the only thing me and DP argue about.

One of us thinks that every thing should stay on the side piled neatly, pans soaking, cutlery in a bowl soaking. The other thinks majority should go in the sink waiting, pans soaking.

Who's right, who's wrong?

We do have a dishwasher, it gets used maybe twice a year. Disagreements haven't quite reached daily use levels yet.

On the side, waiting to be washed
Never in the sink

Winterfellismyhome · 16/05/2021 17:45

On the side.

Side note, if i had a dishwasher, i would use it ALL THE TIME

Chicchicchicchiclana · 16/05/2021 17:45

Keep the sink clear.

IamnotSethRogan · 16/05/2021 17:46

I would just use the dishwasher

Unanananana · 16/05/2021 17:46

Waiting on the side till its washed up. Cutlery normally gets chucked in the bottom of the bowl.

Ours isn't left lying around long enough to be worth the angst tbh. Just have the kids wash up after dinner surely?

cherrypiepie · 16/05/2021 17:46

In the dishwasher.

But you are right - on the side or you have to fish them out if stagnant, greasy water.

DinosaurDiana · 16/05/2021 17:47

You’re both wrong, put it in the dishwasher.

idontlikealdi · 16/05/2021 17:58

Dishwasher for goodness sake but if I have stuff waiting to go in the dishwasher and it's already on it's stacked on the side. Sticking my hand into a sink full of dirty water make me heave.

TempName01 · 16/05/2021 17:59

You don’t need to leave anything to soak, you have a dishwasher! Your sink and sides will be clear! Seriously consider using it 😄

ShirleyPhallus · 16/05/2021 18:00

Why on earth don’t you use the dishwasher?!

speakout · 16/05/2021 18:02

Why don't you use the dishwasher?
For me one of the benefits is that it keeps the kitchen clear of dirty dishes. No full sinks, no piles waiting to be washed.
Dirty stuff goes straight in the dishwasher and waits until it is full. Kitchen and sink area are always clear.

MishMashMummy · 16/05/2021 18:02

On the side. If it’s in the sink you have to take them out to clear the sink for washing up - total waste of time!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 16/05/2021 18:03

Depends on the size of yoir sink. Mine is basically a bathtub so things get put in there, not on a side if needed.

Start using that dishwasher. This is exactly what it is for!

dudsville · 16/05/2021 18:03

You are both being unreasonable. Use the flecking dishwasher. Also, don't bother arguing over this, it's not like one answer is life saving and the other is soul destroying.

ShutUpAlex · 16/05/2021 18:03

Ergh I fucking hate dishes in the sink. On the side.

We just use our dishwasher though, why the hell aren’t you doing that??

ThatIsMyPotato · 16/05/2021 18:06

Dishwasher uses less water than handwashing so just put them in there.

Tossblanket · 16/05/2021 18:07

Use the dishwasher.

gobbynorthernbird · 16/05/2021 18:09

You Are Both Very Unreasonable for not using the dishwasher

AndroidsAliensAndWizards · 16/05/2021 18:09

Do people not realise many many many people don't have a dishwasher?

AndroidsAliensAndWizards · 16/05/2021 18:11

I put them on the side. Dh would have it all the bowl.

So, if he's doing dishes he does then his way and if I'm doing them then it's my way.

We don't stand there arguing about how to wash them when there's an unused dishwasher there like some people seem to think you're doing.

speakout · 16/05/2021 18:11

Do people not realise many many many people don't have a dishwasher?

Yes, but the OP does have a dishwasher.

ShirleyPhallus · 16/05/2021 18:11

Do people not realise many many many people don't have a dishwasher?
Erm yes. But it’s right there in the OP that she does have one....
Buby51 · 16/05/2021 18:14

For me on the side but anything particularly grim gets soaked first but the rest on the side.

My partner just piles them all in the sink on top of each other. Really annoys me as they all need to come out actually wash them!

gobbynorthernbird · 16/05/2021 18:15

Do people not realise that the info is in the OP?
sweeneytoddsrazor · 16/05/2021 18:16

Why would you have a dishwasher and not use it?
