The f**king weather...

I am BU. I know I am. But , here in Wales anyway, for the last 3(?) weeks, it's like mother nature is having a good old laugh going "poor bastards can only meet outside... we'll see about that!!!"

Is it really May or has it been March 2020 this whole time....?
😭😭😭😭

*Lots of people go on about how awful the weather is and how it's worse than ever, but honestly the data does not bear this out. It's not unusually cold for May, it's average.

We have had extremely warm summers and springs recently (remember the week 18C in Feb last year - that was extreme) and I think people have become complacent. It's not usual British weather. This is.*

Agreed @Lockheart. I think it feels worse because we’re currently only allowed to meet outside, and hospitality is only outdoors so it’s a double whammy. People are remembering last year’s perpetual heatwave from April and thinking that’s the norm when it was In fact worryingly abnormal

Aquagirl19 · 13/05/2021 21:59

I like the rain personally. It keeps the morons inside where they don't disturb me.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/05/2021 22:06

yanbu.
But there have been some beautiful cloudscapes.

Perhaps some hints of a warmup towards the end of the month.

MyOctopusFeature · 13/05/2021 22:09

@PeskyRooks

Sorry everyone don't want to be a Debbie downer but I've just read that coral the bookmakers have put the odds of this summer being the wettest since records began down to 2-1! So maybe we need to get our heads around it and think what we're going to do if this is the case, then if it's not true - bonus!! But if it is true then forewarned is forearmed, indoor hobbies, wet weather gear bought, house plants rather than gardening...
Bookmakers’ odds have nothing to do with predictions. They are designed to mitigate losses by attracting bets across a wider range of outcomes. 2:1 or odds-on for that matter gives us no insight into the future.

I always say May is usually lovely. This year it has been shit

MeanderingGently · 13/05/2021 22:15

Sorry....I hate summer, it's the heat mostly. So far, this year has been wonderful, I love it. I wish it would stay this way but sadly, I predict that once the heat comes, it will come with a vengeance....

UrbanRambler · 13/05/2021 22:17

Yes, it's dire. April was the frostiest on record for 60 years, and when the sun shone it was accompanied by a bitter north wind. The first week of May brought more rain than the whole of April and now we're just 3 weeks away from the start of summer but spring hasn't really got going. The jet stream needs to f* off up north, it's doing my head in!

tv86 · 13/05/2021 22:19

yes the weathers bad but we're getting all the rainy weather now so that come June we will have sunny weather till The end of august!

worriedatthemoment · 13/05/2021 22:34

Its not just wales , here in sw its been pretty much same as well

Whammyyammy · 13/05/2021 22:49

Agree, we've had heating and under floor heating on today. Took dogs for a walk and mud everywhere. OH even lit the fire tonight. Mid may

Beansprout30 · 13/05/2021 22:51

It’s thoroughly depressing, as if winter hasn’t been shit enough being in lockdown and now we still can’t do much because of the weather. Just want to be able to sit out in the garden without a coat, take the kids for a picnic, have a bit of a fucking life!!

Puttingouthefirewithgasoline · 13/05/2021 22:56

I know you op, freezing here too and weeks of rain, yes we had little rain in April but it was cold!

Shows how Lucky we were last march.
I'm sure it will balance out to an amazing Indian summer.

Just too miserable now.

Charlottejbt · 13/05/2021 23:06

'Tis pissing down in SW France too if that makes people feel better. Poor lizards they' re too cold to come out and play.

Well, it stopped raining yesterday and there was a lizard near our garden wall. But otherwise, the same weather as the UK. I've just started a new job 15 miles away and I'm commuting by scooter (no driving licence yet) which was perhaps not the best idea. I thought France would be mild and dry this time of year, and instead I'm arriving at work soaked to the skin. By the time I'm nearly dry, it's time to go back out in the rain and freeze my butt off again. I'm too old for this.

Wheresmybiscuit3 · 14/05/2021 00:02

It’s like we are a month behind seasonally. It feels like April. April felt like February with how cold it was.

RandomMess · 23/05/2021 18:44

FFS today feels like March at best Confused

MrsDThomas · 23/05/2021 18:47

If you really are in Wales, you should be used to it by now.

Its called summer. Go out and get wet!

TheMoth · 23/05/2021 18:52

It's not just wet though, it's cold and windy! I haven't sat out in my garden, day or night, for bloody ages.

RandomMess · 23/05/2021 18:55

Further north than Wales, it's still worse than usual for May.

Don't tell the southerners but Tuesday and Wednesday were sunny and dry here 😳

RandomMess · 23/05/2021 18:56

I had more days driving my convertible in January than I have since Mid April.

AgnesNaismith · 23/05/2021 18:59

Keep the faith everyone...the end of this week brings the sun

3scape · 23/05/2021 18:59

Interesting saying it's average. This has been a wetter May with an accompanying lower average temperature.

StopPokingTheRoyalTitDear · 23/05/2021 19:03

Feels like November here- relentless rain, hail, strong winds... so, so tired of it. Weather doesn’t usually depress me but this does I think because it’s meant to basically be summer. We had the paddling pool out for days at a time this time last year!

newnortherner111 · 23/05/2021 19:06

It feels strange to have to be wearing jumpers, winter coats etc but have daylight until 9pm.

Keepyourdistance000 · 23/05/2021 19:08

This is almost exactly how it was in May 2018 which was then followed by a nearly three month heatwave...

May 2007 and May 2012 were also washouts.

RandomMess · 23/05/2021 19:14

Last year where I live we had the sunniest April since records began and 2nd sunniest May. I am so missing long sunny afternoon & evening dog walks Sad
