Angela Rayner sacked [shock]

So Keir Starmer chooses the one shining light in the labour party. A single mother at sixteen, the most inspiring story to come out of the Labour party. Anyone that has listened to Angela about her struggles to obtain a degree and to better herself. Starmer chooses her as the whipping girl for his failures and has sacked her as co-ordinator. He can't remove her as deputy, but how much longer is that position tenable?
I am genuinely shocked and horrified. The failures of the labour party on are on HIM. He should be resigning.

Absolutely livid. What has the Labour party come to.

Is this Starmer's way of appealing to women? Insulting.

Bit overdramatic Op.
I don’t thin’ anyone should have been sacked. These are weird times and it’s silly to overreact - and your response is as much of an overreaction as sacking Rayner. I don’t see her as a shining light, mind you. I’m not a fan, though her achievements are obviously impressive.

PlanDeRaccordement · 08/05/2021 20:11

But she was only sacked from being the campaign coordinator? So it was literally her job to run the campaign and apparently she did a terrible job in Hartlepool?
The fact she was a teen mother and has an inspiring story doesn’t make her good at her job or give her the right to stay in a job she cannot actually do.

Youarecountingonme · 08/05/2021 20:13

So you don't think Starmer should be taking responsibility for what has happened?

RedMarauder · 08/05/2021 20:13

Such a leading light she can't control her mouth -metro.co.uk/2020/10/22/fuming-tory-mp-blasts-did-you-just-call-me-scum-at-angela-rayner-13462605/

She's a liability.

Youarecountingonme · 08/05/2021 20:14

Of all the people in the Labour Party, I had the highest hopes for her, she seems to be the only genuine person there from a background similar to mine. I could identify with her at the very least.

Youarecountingonme · 08/05/2021 20:15

Starmer is seeking to deflect, and it is very sad to see. Pathetic.

Pumperthepumper · 08/05/2021 20:15

I think it’s fair enough. Losing Hartlepool is fucking appalling, it’s about time the Labour Party was held to account, and I voted for them.

Tealightsandd · 08/05/2021 20:19

Her campaign tactic seemed to consist of calling people "Tory scum". Not very constructive. Perhaps Keir is looking for a less divisive approach going forwards.

PlanDeRaccordement · 08/05/2021 20:22

Yes, but he is? As party leader, if your campaign coordinator can’t campaign her way out of a paper bag, you sack them and appoint a new campaign coordinator.
itsgettingwierd · 08/05/2021 20:41

He sacked the campaign cordinator for failing to co ordinate a decent campaign.

The manager of Tesco's doesn't quit because he employed someone to work on a till who fails to be able to do their job properly or steals money from it or whatever!

Personally I think they need to make more use of Johnathan Ashworth. He seems the most normal and switched on one of them all!

sst1234 · 08/05/2021 20:44

You really need to raise your standards if find her inspiring. She is like an X Factor contestant who can’t sing but never fails to mention that she was teenage mum. Her personality, and demeanor reeks of contempt for others that she doesn’t agree with. And her support for the far left including Corbyn means she is a real turn off for labour supporters.

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 08/05/2021 20:45

They can’t blame Jeremy Corbyn anymore so someone else had to go

AnneLovesGilbert · 08/05/2021 20:50

She’s intensely irritating to a lot of people and she’s done a shit job of the campaign. She deserves to be out of a job running campaigns.

You might find her inspiring but maybe you should pay more attention to how she behaves and what she says rather than her background, appearance or accent.

He’s fucked up too but clearing house is one way of him facing up to that.

Serenschintte · 08/05/2021 20:51

Angela, is that you?

dapsnotplimsolls · 08/05/2021 20:53

Speculation that she'll get a cabinet post in a re-shuffle.

SunsetBeetch · 08/05/2021 20:56

She's an idiot. This was a good move.

SunsetBeetch · 08/05/2021 20:57

@Serenschintte

Angela, is that you?
I was thinking Owen Jones.
EwwSprouts · 08/05/2021 20:58

Have you seen the colour of the political map today?

Tealightsandd · 08/05/2021 20:58

You might find her inspiring but maybe you should pay more attention to how she behaves and what she says rather than her background, appearance or accent

This.

One of the biggest problems with politics today is the focus on someone's accent or regional background or something equally superficial instead of actual policies. Perhaps a deliberate distraction to disguise how shit they and their policies actually are. It's an issue across parliament, but Labour in particular are fond of this tactic.

People don't want or need patronising division or identity politics. They want and need positive and constructive policies.

Moonstone1234 · 08/05/2021 21:00

So she messes up one of the most important by elections and bangs on about being a parent so young. Does she really think that will inspire people. Maybe they think she is someone desperately out of her depth.

GreenClock · 08/05/2021 21:01

She did a poor job and was dismissed. It’s fair enough.

MapleMay11 · 08/05/2021 21:03

The woman is vile and her behaviour is appalling. There's nothing inspirational about her and it's astonishing that she was chosen to be the deputy leader of the Labour party. She performed woefully so it's right she was removed from the role immediately.

No way! Did she put on her babymama routine again after this disaster? So predictable and pathetic. Women like her actually do a disservice to feminism.
tttigress · 08/05/2021 21:03

I'm not sure what beiy a single mother at 16 and having struggles has to do with being the right person for the job.

If the person that can actually deliver the results is from a very wealthy background and has never had a worry in their life, so what?

Is it really good for labour to continually fail with a group of people who "have had struggles"

Personally, I see one of the big problems is Labour voters shifting to Green, as they have in Germany. Obviously that isn't one person's fault.
