Angela Rayner sacked [shock]

So Keir Starmer chooses the one shining light in the labour party. A single mother at sixteen, the most inspiring story to come out of the Labour party. Anyone that has listened to Angela about her struggles to obtain a degree and to better herself. Starmer chooses her as the whipping girl for his failures and has sacked her as co-ordinator. He can't remove her as deputy, but how much longer is that position tenable?
I am genuinely shocked and horrified. The failures of the labour party on are on HIM. He should be resigning.

Absolutely livid. What has the Labour party come to.

Rebeca Long Bailey was Rayners flatmate for a bit.

I'm glad Angela Rayner is being sidelined - she is pretty terrible, like most of the forgettable shadow cabinet. I can't even think who is shadow educaation minister and they should be all over the frankly useless and disinterested Gavin Williamson but no - they're invisible.

I do take exception to the poster criticising Jess Phillips and using the frankly sexist term 'shrill'. Jess Phillips has a great record on tackling domestic violence and at least she manages to speak out. Most of the shadow cabinet barey give a squeak.

Labour are a joke, Rayner or no Rayner. Completely and utterly unelectable. I have not a clue what they stand for.

Being generous to Starmer he's had virtually no time to establish his leadership role and the direction of the party outside of the Covid crisis.

Then imagine how it's been for Boris!

It's probably a relief to her.

It cant be fun trying to sell a turd.

If I were Starmer then I, too, would have got rid of her at the earliest opportunity.

The labour party has plenty of clever women in it. Emily Thornberry, Rachel Reeves, Liz Kendall for starters. Why would you want Angela Rayner in a key role when you could have one of them?

I (not a Labour supporter) defended her on another thread saying that her achievements were considerable and inspirational, because they are. However, that aside, she’s a pretty poor politician and tiresome to listen to, as well as running a distinctly unsuccessful campaign in Hartlepool.

I don't recall Momentum backing her for the deputy leadership. I thought they threw their support behind Richard Burgon.

If she's aspirational I'd worry about what you are aspiring to.

I'd love to see more female MPs and more of those MPs in positions of power, but I've learnt that just because someone is female it doesn't mean they will fight my corner. I've also learnt that it isn't enough for someone to be just like me in order for me to identify with them. Labour needs to get ruthless in recognising those MPs who are toxic to voters.

@Guavafish

Sunak is a loser and will never be a PM

Stunning political analysis Hmm

I don't see any future for the Labour Party. They are dead in Scotland; have utterly alienated themselves from the working class, concentrating on ridiculous identity politics rather than real policies to make lives better; have no appeal to white working class people who have made good, who are being told they should be guilty about it and to check their privilege; no appeal to hardworking and aspirational BAME groups who are being told they occupy a position of perpetual victimhood and woe betide they speak up against that notion; no appeal to females, because they don't believe in biological sex....

I grew up steeped in Labour politics and have voted for them for over 30 years, but couldn't bring myself to do so this time. It gives me no pleasure to see Labour's demise, but I can't see them coming back anytime soon. It is a broken party, and the people within it refuse to see this. Easier to just bleat about Tory scum than to accept any responsibility. Rayner is just one of a plethora of incompetents, who should not have been in the position they are in in the first place.

Wow. I think it's pretty conclusive that she won't be missed - apart from by the OP.

The trouble is, neither do they! Just not being vile liar Johnson isn't actually enough to win!

They are in a similar position to the one they occupied in 1983, under Michael Foot. Or the position the Tories were in, in 1997. The Labour Party will be back, but it will take them a while. Poor old Kier Starmer has one hell of a job on. He’s the Neil Kinnock of the 2020s.

You make an interesting observation there about the female and BAME Tories being expected to get there on merit and being of a better calibre. Some of the most effective Tories are women or BAME - the two female PMs, Nadhim Zahawi heading up vaccination program, Liz Truss quietly doing the trade deals, Rishi Sunak at the treasury, Sajid Javid before him, Kwasi Kwarteng, Kemi Badenoch….the list goes on.

Kwasi Kwarteng is my MP and I don't think he actually knows where his constituency is. Unfortunately my cat could wear a blue rosette and win an election here and he'd probably do a better job!

Whether you agree with her policies or not she was always going to be a Scapegoat. She was never going to be successful as campaign leader with Keef in charge.

Like trying to push shit up a hill.

He needs to take some responsibility for his failings.

There was a lot of discussion about which way they'd jump. AR started presenting herself as a centerist unity candidate before Corbyn had got his coat on but she'd obviously already sown up momentum support because she was the only candidate on their 'democratic vote' about who to support.
