Hate bank holidays !!

Am I alone in loathing bank holidays ?! They have a definite depressing feel to them rather like an extra Sunday. The weather forecast down south was wet and windy which I was quite glad about as thought maybe we could be cosy at home but it's stifling hot and sunny one minute and windy the next. I love time away from work but when I choose it !!

I agree, hate them, like I hate Sundays ! Always feel like you have to do something on a BH?

lollipoprainbow · 03/05/2021 14:50

@Coldwine75 yes exactly, always feel I should be out doing stuff like everyone else on social media !

If I have plans I'm ok. But it's raining. My daughter had a sleepover at a friends last night (yes Covid police, I know, I know) so she's grumpy tired and mooching her way through roblox and minecraft and I'm bored. It's not 3pm yet.

MsVestibule · 03/05/2021 14:52

Nope, I love them! Monday is a non-working day for me anyway and it's very rainy but I like it that my DH and DCs are all off together. I don't feel an obligation to do anything special - it's just an extended weekend.

BrieAndChilli · 03/05/2021 14:55

I quite like them as normal weekends by the time you have done all the housework, the food shop, the diy, ferrying kids around etcher of the weekend has gone.
Bank holidays mean you can spend a day truly mooching. I wish every weekend was a 3 day weekend!!

TooMuchYarn · 03/05/2021 14:57

Saturday was the holiday here - and nothing was open! No supermarkets no shops and it lashed rain all day. Two Sundays in a row, and not even a day off today Sad

Wineandbooks · 03/05/2021 14:58

No, I hate them as well. I hate them though because I’m the one that wants to be out and about doing things and no one else wants to. I hate the feeling of being stuck in wasting another day, I’d much rather be working.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 03/05/2021 14:58

I hate them as I work for 12 hours on them.

Eyevorbig0ne · 03/05/2021 14:59

I don't work Monday anyway but I like having partner and daughter off too.
I hate that everyone else is off so everywhere is so bloody busy.
We drove to Southend today but daughter's feet hurt too much so we left after 3 hrs only.. 3 hour drive...
I like to see them get time off 😊

Perhaps you could do with getting off social media then.

Todayisanabsolutevanilladay · 03/05/2021 15:00

Where the hell is it stifling hot in the UK atm??

fuzzyduck1 · 03/05/2021 15:00

I love them especially if I have to work. Usually very quite and. Means I get a day another time to have off when the rest of you are at work.

Jobseeker19 · 03/05/2021 15:01

Yes, I find them boring and extra depressing.

snotaproblem · 03/05/2021 15:04

It's lashing down here and my hard of hearing dp is watching crap films with volume turned up to 11! So depressing as I have acute hearing😩

Deadringer · 03/05/2021 15:04

I have been reading all day, aside from a quick break for tea and cake, bliss.

Lazierdays · 03/05/2021 15:04

I would trade stifling hot for the absolute horrendous constant rain and wind we have up here! Where are you??

Propagandalf · 03/05/2021 15:06

I don't like that the Easter bank holidays are sometimes in April but also sometimes they're in March.

Where I work, the annual leave calendar resets in April, so if Easter in one year is in April, but is then in March the next year, it means that I have 2 sets of Easter bank holidays in the same year which buggers up the number of my leave days.

Easter should be on a set date like with Christmas.

megletthesecond · 03/05/2021 15:08

Yep. So bored and depressed here. Been tidying all day.
Teens won't leave their rooms. I was this close to flouncing off out for the day on my own.

BiddyPop · 03/05/2021 15:10

I baked a cake this morning and am going through my wardrobe this afternoon to pull out what summery things still fit (I need boating shorts and T-shirt next weekend). Both good jobs for a miserable day!

Aiming to finish that shortly, have a bath, then make a nice dinner in peace

funinthesun19 · 03/05/2021 15:12

I find them depressing too. People always feel like they have to do something wonderful on bank holidays, which then makes you feel like shit when you don’t. So I’m glad it’s rainy today so at least there’s that.

year5teacher · 03/05/2021 15:13

I love them! I’ve done fuck all all weekend except to play animal crossing and catch up with tv. After the week I’ve had it’s very welcome.

Amdone123 · 03/05/2021 15:16

I hate them. I had to have a chat with self this morning as was in danger of becoming depressed! Was going to go for a walk, but too cold, etc.
Only 3 adults here and it's already reminding me of Lockdown; everyone milling around and the kitchen looking like a 24 hour cafe.
My granddaughter arrived earlier, so at least that's a lovely diversion.

YouLando · 03/05/2021 15:21

Yep, bloody hate them. Feel a pressure to be out 'doing stuff' or doing something worthy or useful indoors, and usually end up doing neither. DH never wants to do anything on a BH, so unless I decide beforehand, plan it, book it etc we just end up mooching around doing naff all. DD has a friend today so at least she's happy (friend is in our bubble).

FourEyesGood · 03/05/2021 15:26

I love them! Monday is one of the toughest days on my timetable this year, so getting to start the week with a Tuesday tomorrow will be brilliant. I’ve done nothing special today: got up and went out for an early run (while there was no-one else around and before the rain), did some baking, played some card games with the family, caught up on a bit of marking. And it’ll only be a 4-day working week - bonus!

fitflopqueen · 03/05/2021 15:28

Its just another day here, we don't go out on BHs as it gets a bit busy where we are. Rainy and windy, I have worked from home for 4 hours, had to rug up with electric throw for that.

Fire is lit and dog and cat are toasting peacefully
Watching A place in the Sun as no sight of any round here.
