Hate bank holidays !!

Am I alone in loathing bank holidays ?! They have a definite depressing feel to them rather like an extra Sunday. The weather forecast down south was wet and windy which I was quite glad about as thought maybe we could be cosy at home but it's stifling hot and sunny one minute and windy the next. I love time away from work but when I choose it !!

I love them. Live alone. Lazy day after a dog walk. Not being at work! I couldn't give a shiny shit what people are doing on social media.

rc22 · 03/05/2021 15:34

I like them but had planned to do lots today and instead have been quite lazy. Spent the morning watching crap telly, DH made lunch then I read for a bit then had a nap!! I have just managed to strip the bedding and put it in the washer and now I'm heading to Tescos for some shopping.

cariadlet · 03/05/2021 15:36

The weather's miserable, I'm having another pyjama day and it definitely just feels like just another Sunday.

I do feel that I should have made the effort to go somewhere but I have spent most of the long weekend finishing this term's planning (teacher).

I'm hoping that I'll have the evenings to myself for the rest of the term so I'm pretty pleased with that.

Oooh, Bank Holiday fan here.

Sat/Sunday was busy here so have nothing planned for today. Brilliant.

Sunday night feels completely different with no work the next morning, just like a proper holiday.

BashfulClam · 03/05/2021 15:42

Love them, we were away on Saturday and it was beautiful weather and now a nice cosy day watching rubbish and eating good stuff!

sunsetsand · 03/05/2021 15:46

"Where the hell is it stifling hot in the UK atm??"

Nowhere, such drama.

Have a day off OP Grin

@ilovesooty thanks for your helpful suggestion.

They have a Sunday feel to them and i find them a bit ' meh'! We used to go out when the kids were little but these days there are too many cars and even pre covid it became expensive to go out anywhere , so we tend to stay in now ( plus kids are much older ! Lol)
Watching snooker is as good at it gets these days.

Brokenrecord3006 · 03/05/2021 16:47

I bloody love a Sunday, so I think bank holidays are great as we pretty much get two of them! I didn't realise anyone had such an issue with Sundays until I read this thread.

BetterKateThanNever · 03/05/2021 16:56

I don't work so they shouldn't make much difference but somehow they're the worst days?

Dentistlakes · 03/05/2021 16:59

I love them, especially when the children are in school and I can have the day to myself; like today!

BoomChicka · 03/05/2021 17:00

Just looked on the weather map and it's 12 degrees down south. Stifling hot 🤣

FuzzyPuffling · 03/05/2021 17:02

I hate them too.
It is raining hard and very windy here today.
And my Bank Holiday fun has been to paint the hall ceiling. And now my neck hurts.

TheGumption · 03/05/2021 17:04

I'd like some of that stifling heat!

LubaLuca · 03/05/2021 17:07

I love them! Not having to set the alarm on a Sunday night is my favourite part.

DrCoconut · 03/05/2021 17:08

I'm jealous of all the hot/beautiful/glorious/heat wave weather people on here get. It's vile here today and even the last two summers have been windy washouts in the main with loads of rain and temperatures struggling to get into the 20s most days. We got a couple of absolutely roasting days in the 30s at random then back to rain 😫. Bank holidays are ok but we can't really go anywhere much at the moment as everywhere is closed or fully booked (we had a change of plan last week involving a hospital visit so hadn't booked anything thinking we couldn't go).

sashagabadon · 03/05/2021 17:08

I normally love them but this particular one is very boring

AbsolutelyPatsy · 03/05/2021 17:16

it is a bit FOMO, hard to reconcile.

mumofthemonsters808 · 03/05/2021 17:20

I love them, just because it’s a day off work and a nice short week to get through.

SwimBaby · 03/05/2021 17:26

I always try and do something a bit holidayish on bank holidays. Today I went to a new area and went for a walk along the river and had a roast in a pub garden.

LadyEloise · 03/05/2021 17:27

Love them.
You don't have to get up for work.

In Ireland and we have less bank holidays than most European countries. We are due an extra one.
I hope they put one in July.

OverByYer · 03/05/2021 17:29

I always feel under pressure to do something worthwhile ( decorating/ gardening) or go somewhere special.
I normally end up doing feck all as can’t face queuing traffic and hordes of people

mum2jakie · 03/05/2021 17:37

I normally love them but today has not only pissed it down but has also been really windy and cold. Just ended up getting some nice food from M&S and staying inside. Am getting bored now!

FoxgloveBee · 03/05/2021 17:47

Oh no, I absolutely love the extra day off work with my family!! I work long hours five days a week with restrictions on when I can take annual leave due to workload so having a three day weekend is something we all really look forward to...regardless of the weather!

poppycat10 · 03/05/2021 17:48

I don't like bank holidays either, I'd rather take my holiday when I want to, not when the government tells me to.

And the weather nearly always seems to be rubbish, too.
