Hate bank holidays !!

Am I alone in loathing bank holidays ?! They have a definite depressing feel to them rather like an extra Sunday. The weather forecast down south was wet and windy which I was quite glad about as thought maybe we could be cosy at home but it's stifling hot and sunny one minute and windy the next. I love time away from work but when I choose it !!

I love them.... Extra wages.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 03/05/2021 18:09

I love them. An extra day off all together? Yes, why not? We never go anywhere on a bank holiday but when we have a sunny one we enjoy the garden.

Poptart4 · 03/05/2021 18:17

I hate them, they always feel a bit meh.

Disneyblue · 03/05/2021 18:24

I have Mondays off anyway so I don't benefit.
So yea, now I hate them.

malificent7 · 03/05/2021 18:26

I like them except beauty spots are always crowded.

RampantIvy · 03/05/2021 18:28

I managed to get a bit of gardening done this morning before it started to rain. Currently it is 6 degrees and lashing down with rain. The garden was in desperate need of rain though. DH and I had recorded the entire series of Line of Duty and have been binge watching it all afternoon.

It is also very windy here and the marquees at a local cafe went flying across the car park.

Mintjulia · 03/05/2021 18:36

As a single mum, I agree with @brieandchilli, most weekends I'm flat out getting things done, just to go back to work.
This weekend I've spent a few hours with my sister, and then hours this afternoon with my feet up. Bliss Smile

ihavethehighground · 03/05/2021 18:42

Bank holidays. Why do they even exist ? Can go anywhere even if we wanted to, as everything gets so busy.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/05/2021 18:49

My mum always hated them - but that’s because my dad always saw it as an extra drinking day (still does I think!)

But I don’t mind them now - an extra day with the kids and not working! Followed by a 4 day week.

It helps not to have expectations too high.

m0therofdragons · 03/05/2021 18:50

They usually mean a 4 day work week with 5 days worth of work but I do like them. Today’s is rubbish though. I had an exciting plan that’s been cancelled by the weather so feel a bit flat and dd3 has been vomiting. Awesome time in our house!

Coldwine75 · 03/05/2021 18:58

For all those saying an extra day together, not if you have teenagers that dont leave their rooms you dont

RampantIvy · 03/05/2021 19:02

Or if you both WFH like DH and I do. We are with each other virtually 24/7 these days.

We avoid going anywhere on bak holidays because it is always so busy everywhere.

cardibach · 03/05/2021 19:04

My teenager never hibernated in her room, @Coldwine75.
I don’t get the hate. It’s a day off. If they were abolished do you really think you would get the extra days as holiday?
Those who say they feel like Sunday - that may be fair, but presumably Sunday doesn’t since you don’t have work the next day?
I never feel I have to do stuff. I just do what I want. Sometimes it’s stuff, sometimes it isn’t.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/05/2021 19:10

This one's just confused me. A few weeks at school... a couple off for Easter... a couple back at school... feels like another week off and I need to convince my brain to get into Tuesday mode tomorrow.

No indoor options. Anything "exciting" needs prebooking, did more than enough wet walks and loitering around the house over the winter.
I've had a nap to fill an hour.

IceSwallowCome · 03/05/2021 19:12

Don't really understand the fuss tbh, but I've always had jobs where I've worked holidays so they've never been different from any other day to me.

Coldwine75 · 03/05/2021 19:15

Your teen is very unusual then lol

Its crap, boring and everywhere too busy, i just worked at home this morning!

lollipoprainbow · 03/05/2021 19:22

Happy now, it's raining and we're having a chippy tea!!

Vile weather and so depressing. You cannot even rug up and then take shelter in a cafe.

YOU HAVE TO SIT OUTSIDE!!!

AbsolutelyPatsy · 03/05/2021 19:50

i also have mondays off so no benefit, but i have as a bonus taken tuesday off!
my very own bank holiday Grin

Butteredtoast55 · 03/05/2021 19:51

I love the Bank Holiday - a real chance to relax. I don't feel any pressure whatsoever to do anything just because other people are. Had a lovely, leisurely lunch and a long talk with my DH and adult DC who are living here at the moment, and a friend who bubbles up with us. Then we have made a fire and sat in the lamplight, reading. Wonderful.

MeanderingGently · 03/05/2021 20:00

I agree with those who say they hate them, just like Sundays....
I prefer weekdays rather than weekends and bank holidays are just an extension. Everyone's supposed to be 'doing things' but God knows what.

Today it poured with rain all day here and is windy to boot. Nothing much open yet as everything opens on 17 May or beyond, don't want to sit outdoors having a coffee as it's so bloody cold. Have already looked round the only garden available open round here, did that on Saturday!!

I went out to a large garden centre and found so many other people fed up and with nothing else to do, they were queuing in their hundreds in the pouring wet and wind, gave up and went home. I actually went to bed this afternoon and slept instead, now going to sit on the sofa and eat ice cream in front of the TV, what a waste of a day......

U2HasTheEdge · 03/05/2021 20:07

Stifling hot! I want to be where you are. I would love for it to be even a little bit warm.

I like BHs. Makes the working week go quicker. I don't feel like I have to be doing anything because other people on social media are. I am more than happy reading and crocheting if the weather is crap.

The only one downside is my work week is looking very busy due to fitting things in over 4 days.

bishbashbosh99 · 04/05/2021 07:29

I find this quite sad. For me it's lovely to either be with family doing something or doing nothing, or even for some time to myself doing something or nothing.... just not working for an extra day. Bliss.

MrsDThomas · 04/05/2021 07:34

I love them. I work hard and appreciates that extra day off. We need more. Like st Davids etc and one on October for Thanksgiving.

There are only 2 now until Christmas

RampantIvy · 04/05/2021 07:46

Being with DH isn't a novelty for me. I WFH part time, DH has worked from home for years and DD is away at university, so DH and I are with each other 24/7. A miserable, wet bank holiday is spending yet another day of being in the same four walls with the same person that I am with every single day.

I just yearn for a bit of excitement now.
