AIBU to have hairy legs this summer?

I’m busy and don’t want to shave or wax my legs this summer but I do want to wear floaty dresses, short shorts and sparkly sandals.

My legs aren’t very hairy, just long thin patchy mangey hair from below knee an ankle. It would look better if I had a luscious thick black pelt.

Should I sod it and keep the hair or would it turn your stomach? I don’t want to scare small children or have people think I’m unkempt or dirty. But also I don’t want to act as if I’m ashamed of my leg hair (even if I am).

How busy can you really be to spend 2 minutes shaving? 🙄

Franklyfrost · 27/04/2021 14:39

YABU= wax it or hide it
YANBU= grow it til you can plait it

Doesn't really matter does it? She can choose whether to shave her legs or not.
Franklyfrost · 27/04/2021 14:40

@Zebraaa
Yep every minute of my day is timetabled. No joke. Am walking to pick up kids as I write this.

I don't shave my legs. I have quite thick hair on them. Some people are really grossed out by it.

SummerHouse · 27/04/2021 14:42

I think you are beautiful 😍

midgedude · 27/04/2021 14:42

If you want to , you can
If you don't want to, don't

Unless it gets so long that it trips people up in the supermarket

InMySpareTime · 27/04/2021 14:43

Do what you like, they're your legs.
I occasionally shave my legs, but only because the breeze rippling through my wispy leg hair gets tickly.

thelegohooverer · 27/04/2021 14:43

I’ve voted YANBU in the hopes that you start a trend and I can join in and be fashionably hirsute

EmergencyHydrangea · 27/04/2021 14:43

Haven't shaved my legs for years. Don't care what other people think about it

OliverBabish · 27/04/2021 14:43

I would LOVE to not have to but I’m far too self-conscious to not shave my legs. I’m weak Smile

WorraLiberty · 27/04/2021 14:43

This thread. Every.Single.Year 😂

Your legs, your choice OP.

I can't see how or why you'd let anyone here influence your choice.

Anothernameanothertime · 27/04/2021 14:44

Keep the hair!
I went for a full grow out in lockdown and never realised you get an interesting tickling hair sensation when a breeze blows over fully grown section of leg hair. It’s very relaxing.

TheQueef · 27/04/2021 14:46

I stopped shaving a few years ago.
Mine have eventually all turned a lovely shiny blonde.
This year is my golden retriever phase.

Franklyfrost · 27/04/2021 14:47

@thelegohooverer

That’s the thing, the more people who do it the less freaky it is. I could be our village’s hairy leg version of whoever said be the change you want to see :)

Franklyfrost · 27/04/2021 14:48

@WorraLiberty
Because I care what other people think.

ArtfulScreamer · 27/04/2021 14:48

Shave your legs, don't shave your legs I'm not sure I could find the motivation to care either way if you were sat next to me on the beach / walked past me in the street and even if I did have the motivation to care what difference to your life would my opinion make.

Franklyfrost · 27/04/2021 14:51

@TheQueef @Anothernameanothertime @EmergencyHydrangea @Jennifer2r

Thank you. It feels easier knowing others do it. I don’t want to gross anyone out too much but also worry about who I trying to please with baldy legs.

@SummerHouse
Fangs :)

Do you need other people's permission for every minor decision?

Iwantacookie · 27/04/2021 14:56

I wouldn't personally but within 6 hours of shaving my leg hairs I'm stubbly again anyway.
Wouldn't bother me if you dont shave.

Notjustanymum · 27/04/2021 14:57

Use an epilator, after a while the hair gives up growing properly! The odd one that grows back is mainly unnoticeable. I do mine once every 6 weeks. Takes 2 minutes and you can do it while listening to a podcast or the news...

How do you know they’re grossed out?

I don't shave my legs or armpits and I know why you're asking because some people are utterly disgusted. They will recoil in horror, wrinkle their noses and in one case, feel sorry for my DH. All the more reason to do it IMHO.

RozHuntleysLeftHand · 27/04/2021 15:01

I haven't shaved legs or underarms for years.

I don't give a tiny shite what other people think.

I'm clean (not shaving seems to make people think you don't wash or are unclean for some bizarre reason...never applies to men though!) and I resent the implication that women must use more of their time grooming than men, and I think it's ridiculous we impose random beauty standards that take time, effort and money.

If you don't want to shave, just don't and fuck what other people think, if they're shallow enough to judge on perfectly normal body hair then they are not worth giving head space to imo.

But why if she doesn't want to bother??

Why should a woman spend a fortune on a machine to conform??

No one has to shave any part of themselves if they don't want to.
