To ask if your knickers and bra match?

Twatterati · 15/04/2021 21:31

Just pondering this after seeing the 'how often do you wash your bra' thread.

My knickers and bras match Grin I have very small boobs though, so can get away with cheaper bras. Some are really nice sets for 'best' and others are just plainish bras that match plainish knickers of the same colour.

I'll buy one bra and three pairs of knickers that match - had a bit of a spend in M&S yesterday!

I've built it up into too much of a 'thing' I think! No one ever sees it these days but I feel better for them matching, and a bit 'wrong' if I run out - will go braless instead!

But I don't ever wear socks, even in the depths of winter and don't own any - I mean, what would I match them too??

So - are you matchy-matchy or does anything go?

When you spend in excess of £40 on a bra it starts getting a bit pricey to start on multiple pairs of matching knickers which are often £15 upwards a pair. Plus shops like Bravissimo are brilliant for bras but awful for knickers - lots of Brazilian cut briefs which look awful and are excessively uncomfortable on anyone with an ass. Bloody annoying.

Musmerian · 16/04/2021 00:39

No because I now only wear PrimaDonna Deauville at £90 a pop. 34H and the most supportive and comfortable bra in the universe. The matching pants are about £50 so I just wear M and S pants. I’d love to have lots of lovely matching sets but no chance.

jay55 · 16/04/2021 09:25

No. I need cotton knickers and decently engineered bras.
I wish there was the option of more basic matching knickers in sets though.

felulageller · 16/04/2021 09:33

No offence but don't your feet smell? How do you keep your shoes clean? Don't you get blisters?

worriedatthemoment · 16/04/2021 09:50

Sometimes but not often as larger boobs so sets are very expensive
So mostly wear couple neutral bras and any knickers
If wear white bra and try and wear white knickers etc but also depends whats clean

Twatterati · 16/04/2021 10:00

Loads of great replies, thanks! I don't know why matching makes me feel so good, literally no one sees it, it's just become a 'thing' I guess.

And re no socks, just to confirm - no, my feet don't smell and not do my shoes 😄 They really don't and I don't get blisters, sore bits or dry skin either. Can walk/run in trainers with NO blisters ever.

I got some wool socks at the start of winter but even they annoyed me so I cut the tops off and wear as 'ankle warmer' type things.

I always hated socks, those irritating seams on the toes, bleurghhhh, literally toe-curling!

Also want to say it is DISGUSTING how much larger boobed bras cost and feel sorry that people are forced into paying so much for comfort and support.

They surely can't cost that much to make...

Maybe we should start a Mumsnet community Bra manufacturer (with optional matching sturdy, hefty gusseted pants)

I don’t have matching sets, but today both my knickers and bra are white!! I have some blue bras and struggle to get blue knickers sadly!

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 16/04/2021 10:56

Just the once, on my wedding day

I am very keen on super comfortable pants and the matching sets rarely do the trick

theworldsbiggestcrocodile · 16/04/2021 11:49

Mine Match when I'm seeing DP and therefore he will be seeing them, ( I love how happy it makes him), but if not then it's hit or miss.
I very rarely wear socks either OP. It would have to be very very cold for me to wear a sock...

user1487194234 · 16/04/2021 11:54

Yes

Nicolastuffedone · 16/04/2021 11:58

Yes. Even if I was the only one to see them!

BarryTheKestrel · 16/04/2021 11:59

9 times out of 10 they are both black... Thats about as close to matching they get unless its a special occasion 😂

Newkitchen123 · 16/04/2021 13:36

No my bras cost a fortune and my knickers are from tesco

Maggiesfarm · 16/04/2021 13:44

I normally match my bra and pants, like you buy two or three pairs of pants to one bra. I like a variety of colours and styles to go under whatever I'm wearing.

However all that went to pot during lockdown, I threw on anything whilst at home and also went without a bra a lot of the time. Back at work now (I work part time, was in yesterday)wearing pristine matching underclothes again. Goodness knows why, they aren't on display but I feel nicer doing so.

TheDogsMother · 16/04/2021 13:51

Yes always, always and I don't think I could leave the house if they didn't Grin. I have probably 40 sets as I love nice underwear. For others is shoes or handbags, for me it's matching underwear..

JustGiveMeGin · 16/04/2021 13:51

Nope, I have beautiful Bras and beautiful knickers but I prefer to mix and match depending what mood I'm in. I probably have 3/4 matching sets but rarely wear them together.

Twatterati · 17/04/2021 10:53

Glad it's not just me then! It does feel better - for me - to be all matchy. I've got about 30 different sets, but they are my only indulgence really. Gorgeous undies and old rags on top 😂

OP posts:
CounsellorTroi · 17/04/2021 10:59

No. The matching knickers of fancy bras are invariably wretched horrible little scraps of material.

TustedFormula · 17/04/2021 11:00

I don't understand matching sets. For a start, cotton is the only fabric for knickers and most bras aren't. Secondly, my underwear choice is based on what's going in top if it. Usually that means a lighter top than bottom or vice versa, so the same fabric for bra and knickers doesn't work.

I generally by multipack cotton knickers in similar or contrasting tones to my bras. That's not to say I always wear the "right" ones together though Grin

Or are you all wearing silk bras and knickers. Surely not nylon pants?

Harryo · 17/04/2021 11:10

@monkeysox

No never. My bras are a fortune (32hh fantasie) and matching pants are never cotton so fuck that expensive shit and associated itchy crack
Same, but 38g. I love their bras. They fit me the best.
KingdomScrolls · 17/04/2021 11:14

I have about 20 beautiful matching sets that I've never managed to get back into post DS, no one wants second hand underwear and it seems a shame to bin them....
Now I mainly match in terms of colour - black bra, black pants etc rather than matching sets, but my days of beautiful silk lingerie sets feel like a thing of the past!

tentimesaday · 17/04/2021 11:26

Never. It's common.

QueenOfPain · 17/04/2021 11:28

I only buy black bras, black knickers and black socks.

But I’m another person with giant tits (36J/K) and thus expensive bras, but I only wear cotton knickers so they’re never truly matching, just the same colour.

LadyWhistledownsPen · 17/04/2021 11:43

Yes, I hate non matching bras and pants and it annoys me when places don't sell pants to match the bras. That said I'm now a 32GG so underwear costs me a fortune.
