Disgusting but need advice

Sorry this isn’t even an interesting disgusting. Bought a house all very neat, clean and in excellent condition. Except the toilets. They look like no 2s have stained the bottom of the loo. Cleaning with loo cleaner and a loo brush does help despite me wanting to get sick but not much and it just gets dirty again. Enamel must have come off and now it sticks and stains. Any advice?

Also, if you have limescale under the rim (or any areas that liquid will run off) soak cotton wool in white vinegar, stick it round the rim and leave for a few hours.

Adding another vote for Harpic Power Tablets, they'll clean up the grottiest loo with minimal effort.

Black bottle harpic did nothing for the foul limescale-encrusted toilets in our new house. Don't waste your money. Get a huge bag of citric acid, get all the water out the loo, dump half the bag of citric down with a cup of boiling water and leave to sit over night. Works like magic.

Another vote for spirit of salts, strong stuff and don't sniff it.

Now, regarding the garlic, should I use crushed, finely chopped or whole bulbs?

Easiest and most successful way I found, when we moved and found all the toilets like this, was citric acid down there overnight. Ordered on Amazon and threw loads down to dissolve in the water (no need to drain). Did it twice which completely cleared it, no scrubbing required. Can then just use a toilet cleaner good for limescale to keep it at bay.

First pour bleach and then harpic on top, leave for few hours and it will be spotless.

Citric acid is great at dissolving limescale, and I'd like to point out that it often is the working ingredient in many a commercial bathroom/toilet cleaning product. So unless you need the consistency of the product, just buy cheap citric acid and it'll do the job.

@duffmcstockings I think it was garlic clove up the back passage for constipation? Piles? She came on here because it gave her foul farts at work and she wondered if she needed to quit her job from the embarrassment.

I seem to remember a friend pouring an entire bottle of full fat Coca Cola down her toilet and leaving it overnight. Worked a treat. The other thing to do is get high strength denture cleaning tablets. Pop a couple in the loo and leave overnight. Do this every night before going to bed. Keeps it white. Denture tablets are brilliant

We’ve used caustic soda on a shocker, but you have to be very careful with it. I def. wouldn’t use it with any children about who might forget and use the loo. We’ve left the bottle of CS on the closed lid as a reminder, in case we forgot.

Instead of a screwdriver, you can try a pumice stone. Apparently they won't scratch the toilet (according to Aggy and Kim anyway).

Screwdriver to remove remove worst bits then a pumice stone. It was rank. We have very hard water here.

I once chucked a 500ml bottle of coke down the toilet, it didn't completely clean it but did a reasonable job.

I use the domestic white bleach, its a white bottle. It doesn't get rid of it but it somewhere makes it look white lol csnt explain it but it does. So if it really doesn't go away try this instead. Tescos sometimes has it on £1 offer

I recently had the same problem and had been putting it off, thinking it was going to be a 'Big Job'. I used the Harpic tablets, but I didn't find them that good. They did remove a bit, but not as much as I was hoping for.

I drained the water out, using a plastic cup that I could throw away. Then I used a green scourer and some Cif cream cleaner and scrubbed. In about 30 seconds it was all gone. I was expecting it to take a lot longer.

I used actual acid to clean someone's toilet the fumes are horrendous but it did the job in minutes

I remember something like that. Think it was garlic for thread worm. Was what drew me into MN. Must be at least 10 years now.

Push all the water through and dump a few litres of coke in, then try normal cleaning

If not replace the toilets but I've seen them come back from utter shockers

The important part is getting the water out first though

A new toilet for whoever finds the thread.

I use proclean macerator cleaner in all my loos now (off amazon but available elsewhere I'm sure). I bought it for the ensuite with the saniflow but its amazing at cleaning. Gets the limescale off the shower doors too.

Tesco do an own brand Limescale remover for a quid, which might be worth a try too. :)

Coca cola is supposed to work. I tried it once on really old coins and it brought them up amazing
