Losing your DH after such a long marriage must feel like losing an organ. RIP.

RIP Prince Phillip

RIP Sad

tttigress · 09/04/2021 12:15

Very sad :( RIP

Aprilshowersandhail · 09/04/2021 12:16

I think of Billy Connolly joking about her being in bed with the blanket pulled up saying look Philip I am a stamp.
They were a very lucky pair..
Condolences HRH..

Feel strange shocked by this news, even though he was obviously very elderly and we know he has been unwell recently.

benorjerry · 09/04/2021 12:17

So very sad, my daughter shares his birthday and we were hoping he would make 100. As they were cleaning me up after her birth I recall hearing the gun salute being fired and we always said that the guns were for her. RIP.

Yiayoula · 09/04/2021 12:18

Aaah, not unexpected , but so very sad. Truly the end of an era. 🥲

LadyCatStark · 09/04/2021 12:18

I just said that to DH!

littlepeas · 09/04/2021 12:19

The obituary is up on the BBC already, despite it being breaking news. I think it's a bit distasteful tbh - I know they have them prepared and ready, but they should wait a while to make it less obvious!

AbsolutelyPatsy · 09/04/2021 12:19

i think we all did

Butwasitherdriveway · 09/04/2021 12:19

She called him her strength and stay :(

DailyMailHater · 09/04/2021 12:20

She always said he was her strength, I feel so sad for her.

Gatehouse77 · 09/04/2021 12:21

Same as the OP. I feel really upset for the Queen knowing how much they could depend on each other.

tankflyboss · 09/04/2021 12:23

I feel so sad for the Queen. ❤️

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 09/04/2021 12:23

At least he'd made it out of hospital and was back with the Queen at the time he died. I know many people have had the sadness of being separated from loved ones at the time of their death but I'm glad to hear of anyone who made it home. Shame not to make it to 100 though he had a tremendously long and good life.

mbosnz · 09/04/2021 12:26

RIP Prince Philip. You were never dull, and you performed a difficult role with commitment and distinction.

It's always too soon for those left behind - your wife, your children, your grandchildren.

lubeybooby · 09/04/2021 12:27

Aw no, I really hoped he'd stick with her a lot longer. Even if only for the joke about his telegram on his 100th birthday, and their 75th wedding anniversary. RIP Phillip

He was ill and probably in pain. Death is often a release in such circumstances, despite the sadness felt by the family.

Life's not about what you want.

Where did you give birth?!
GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 09/04/2021 12:34

RIP Prince Phillip. I just hope the Queen doesn’t die of a broken heart as I do think she adored him. Flowers

JensonsAcolyte · 09/04/2021 12:34

I was in the car and had to pull over. Really weird, I’m not a royalist at all but I got a bit choked up.

RIP.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 09/04/2021 12:35

Please don’t make this about Harry and Meghan. I’m certain they are very sad about the death of their grandfather and children’s great grandfather.

All broadcasters have their Obits section for when prominent people die, a friend who worked for BFBS once said she had to work at the weekend on updating the Obits.
Longdistance · 09/04/2021 12:38

I’d say the newsreaders had fair warning as they’re all wearing black already.
