Losing your DH after such a long marriage must feel like losing an organ. RIP.

Yes. Everyone wanted him to make it to 100 but 99 is not bad by anyone's standards!

(I posted on another thread about him just now (there are three), so won't say any more on this one.)

@GhoulWithADragonTattoo

RIP Prince Phillip. I just hope the Queen doesn’t die of a broken heart as I do think she adored him. Flowers
I would be surprised if she survived another couple of years, one programme recently said that all her contemporaries except him have died, she must be left very lonely now.

I really hoped he would make it to 100. I feel in deep shock even though I knew he was poorly. R.I.P. Such a strong partner to the Queen.

@Longdistance

I’d say the newsreaders had fair warning as they’re all wearing black already.
They have suitable clothing always ready.

I read somewhere that all the BBC newsreaders, at least, have to keep a black jacket - and tie for the men - on site now to be prepared for things like this.

As there's still a 30 people limit for funerals, that will mean some difficult decisions about who attends.

I feel incredibly sad at Prince Philip's passing

My DH and I share the same names as Her Majesty and the Prince

The Queen reminds me greatly of my lovely Grandmother who passed away in 2007

RIP Prince Philip and God Bless the Queen

SchrodingersImmigrant · 09/04/2021 12:43

Over 70 years together. This must be really hard for The Queen.

Rip

Prettybubblesintheair · 09/04/2021 12:43

I was listening to the radio in the shower when they announced it. I’ve been weeping at the national anthem they keep playing! I’m not much of a royalist but for some reason I’m so sad, mainly for the queen. And I hope that Harry was on good terms with him (he said he was with the queen so hopefully Prince Phillip too) for his own hearts sake. I’m not trying to make it about Harry and Meghan before I get told off, it’s a tragic loss for the whole family I just hope Harry is ok, can you imagine if your beloved grandfather passed away and you weren’t talking.

RIP Prince Phillip Flowers

It's all kept ready and tried on annually as part of dress rehearsals.

FooFighter99 · 09/04/2021 12:45

@Aprilshowersandhail

I think of Billy Connolly joking about her being in bed with the blanket pulled up saying look Philip I am a stamp. They were a very lucky pair.. Condolences HRH..
Haha that's brilliant! and they seem(ed) to have a great sense of humour, so I can absolutely imagine this scenario!

@littlepeas

The obituary is up on the BBC already, despite it being breaking news. I think it's a bit distasteful tbh - I know they have them prepared and ready, but they should wait a while to make it less obvious!
All media companies have been ready to go for a while.
MrsExpo · 09/04/2021 12:48

A very sad day and the end of an era. RIP Prince Phillip.

cariadlet · 09/04/2021 12:49

I was irritated by the radio bulletin which referred to his "gaffes". Either be honest and talk about his offensive, racist comments or - if you feel that it's too soon and would be in poor taste - don't bother saying anything at all.

I thought the same, I know they’re pre-prepared but bloody hell give it 5 minutes eh!

Sad news.

I teared up. I couldn’t imagine being without my DP. Bless them both Flowers

They will have been told what time to put those obits up by the Palace. It isn't that they are rushing, there are rehearsed protocols (this is how his death was once announced accidentally during a rehearsal).

MintLampShade · 09/04/2021 12:53

Terribly sad news. My heart is breaking for The Queen ❤️ May He rest in eternal peace 🖤

Felifox · 09/04/2021 12:53

RIP Philip, a sad loss for his family

3Britnee · 09/04/2021 12:54

This is so sad. I hope Queenie doesn't take a turn now he's gone. I doubt she will, she's made of steel.

I noticed there's nothing on a certain IG account yet. I wonder if the whole family will gather together now or not. You know, cos of Covid.

If you catch my drift.

Macncheeseballs · 09/04/2021 12:56

Maybe she'll be fine

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/04/2021 12:57

At least he'd made it out of hospital and was back with the Queen at the time he died

Very true, but then with the support they can access there's no way he'd have been left to die in hospital - unless there'd been a sudden deterioration while he was already in there of course

Almost certainly there'll have been a team around 24/7 ever since he left the Edward VII

GreenClock · 09/04/2021 12:59

I’m not in favour of monarchy but I feel so sorry for the Queen, who fell in love with him as a teen. Since her mother and sister died he was probably one of the only living people who could be totally candid and relaxed with her. Is there anyone alive now who would call her Lilibet or Elizabeth?

littlepeas · 09/04/2021 13:00

I know they have the obituaries ready and said do in my post, it’s the speed of it appearing I find in poor taste. It really wasn’t very long ago we’d have had to wait until tomorrow’s papers. Why does everything have to be instantaneous?

Because it’s the news. People would be quick to complain and say it was disrespectful, lazy, ill prepared, etc, if they didn’t report it.
