Today whilst in the park for a walk I saw 4 teenagers, 2 boys & 2 girls. And the boys were "walking" the girls by leads attached to studded collars around their necks.

Is this a thing teenagers do?! It just didn't sit well with me.....

Just to add, they weren't walking on all fours like a dog just walking normally behind them.....

What

ivfbabymomma1 · 05/04/2021 16:12

I don't want to discriminate by describing their clothing but it was gothic type clothing.

A lot of goths emo seem to be conflating the trend with abusive behaviour. Marilyn Manson for one.

NatalieH2220 · 05/04/2021 16:15

How bizarre

Soubriquet · 05/04/2021 16:15

It’s a trend with goths to be walked on a lead

Leave them to it.

starfish88 · 05/04/2021 16:16

Teenagers like to shock. It could be abusive but it could also just be something they know will raise eyebrows

FireflyRainbow · 05/04/2021 16:16

It's a goth trend.

UhtredRagnarson · 05/04/2021 16:17

This would concern me and if they were under 18 I’d make a welfare report to the police.

ivfbabymomma1 · 05/04/2021 16:19

I mean... of course I left them too it, I didn't make any comments. But they were young, if I had to guess 14/15?

I did see some police walking around so I don't know if they would have said something? I mean I assume the girls are happy to do this so I dunno.

Teenagers like to shock, they achieved their goal.

ivfbabymomma1 · 05/04/2021 16:20

How embarrassing.
In years to come they'll look back and be mortified.

Gumandbass · 05/04/2021 16:22

It's not new, Goth has been around since the 80's.

sst1234 · 05/04/2021 16:43

One word....weirdos. Sorry if that offends people but it’s true.

WallaceinAnderland · 05/04/2021 16:50

Poor kids are so confused at the moment aren't they. It was probably always thus. Bring on the next trend...

DinosaurDiana · 05/04/2021 16:52

What happened to girl power ? Very sad.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 05/04/2021 16:55

That would have made me feel really uncomfortable but any form of S&M or dom/sub play makes me feel uncomfortable. It’s not for me and I don’t understand it.

As long as everyone involved is a consenting adult, people can do what they want. Seeing as they were children that you saw though...

sunflowersandbuttercups · 05/04/2021 16:57

This has been around for ages. It's not anything new.

I was a goth back in the 80s. No fucker puts me on a leash. I had too much self-respect.

Yes, it was silly, attention-seeking stunt as teenagers are apt to go in for (bet none of them are into BDSM in the least but just want people to think they are), but I think it says something about the hideous attitudes to girls and women in today's culture. We sadly seem to have regressed way back beyond the 'liberated' 60s and into the 40s. Or perhaps pre-universal suffrage.

The 80s tend to be looked upon as a time when men did what they liked to women and got away with it, and of course we know so much better and are so much more enlightened since then.

I see that as a dangerous misconception. It's worse. In every respect.

They're into nothing of the sort. I'd bet you a hundred quid.

Real practitioners of this sort of thing do so within very carefully defined boundaries and these don't, as a general rule, involve dog collars and gimp masks being worn in public to amuse the general populace.

Silly kids, who need a chat with a responsible adult about healthy boundaries.

Just being teenagers. Showing off and hoping to shock.

Decades ago I had students coming to class wearing studded dog collars, chains, leathers, spiked rings and spiked armbands on their goospimply bare arms etc. Some of them had so much ironmongery they jangled as they walked. That was just the lads. Some of the girls wore makeup and ripped outfits that made them

look like a recently-ravaged corpse.

ivfbabymomma1 · 05/04/2021 17:32

Well they definitely shocked me, it made me sad, I don't know because like you say it's probably a trend and nothing dangerous but It just made me so uncomfortable!

Not the point but do mean they were on all fours or walking normally?

ivfbabymomma1 · 05/04/2021 17:34

@BrownEyedGirl80 walking normally... just like behind them
