To be pissed off that parks are closed?

AIBU to think this is not on?

I have complied with rules but despite some restrictions being lifted there still isn’t much on, and waking the streets is really no fun.

Where do you live that parks are closed? I'm in Scotland and they're all open plus farm parks and zoos are open

Tereseta · 01/04/2021 08:22

Ours have all been open since the end of the first lockdown. We're in North west

breadcheeseandpickle · 01/04/2021 08:23

police closed them

They aren't closed where I am either (south coast). Where are you OP? Who is it you're pissed off with? Why have they been closed?

TheQueef · 01/04/2021 08:24

People can't restrain themselves so what other option is there?
Our parks have been trashed since restrictions were lifted it's embarrassing.

SquirtleSquad · 01/04/2021 08:25

Cross post, who is it you're pissed off with?

shouldistop · 01/04/2021 08:25

That's a shame.

User133847 · 01/04/2021 08:27

Some parks get closed after feckless students (or youngsters generally) treat them like festivals, ignore social distancing and don't clean up after themselves.

Hardbackwriter · 01/04/2021 08:28

I think it was heavy-handed and stupid to close them - they would have got less busy anyway as the weather changed and the novelty wore off, and I think we should be doing everything we can to encourage people to meet in public, open outdoors spaces - the alternative isn't that people don't see each other, that isn't realistic, it's that they socialise indoors and in private gardens (which much more easily turns into indoors).

Plumbear2 · 01/04/2021 08:28

Blame the people who went overboard,;trashed the parks and ruined it for everyone else. Of course parks will close if people treat them.this way.

Exactly.

I’m really upset.

The Arb is beautiful and I’m furious at the people who trashed it. Equally annoyed with the idiots at the Forest Rec that made it look like a festival was going on with the amount of people there.

Both are my local parks.

There’s also smaller, much lesser parks knocking around if you have a look on Google Maps...

TheQueef · 01/04/2021 08:31

7 tonne after 1 day in one park.
Toddlers would have done better.

Frenchdressing · 01/04/2021 08:32

When did it become acceptable to behave like this? Every urban green space near me is totally trashed. It sickens me. I get people want to be out but just take your shit home! Utter selfish pricks.

Our local beach is a destination for drinkers and gas inhalers. The council cleans up twice a day but can’t keep in too if it. Shitty nappies just left so it’s not just teenagers.

SushiGo · 01/04/2021 08:33

It's shit, but last summer councils were completely overwhelmed by the amount of rubbish left in parks. We don't all have specific litter picking staff, most people who do that role also have other key worker jobs (here, the guys who clear up the parks also dig graves - they are incredibly busy, and currently absolutely don't have time to clear up after lazy selfish people)

If doing this makes people think twice about using the parks responsibly for the rest of the summer then it's a good idea.

AaronPurr · 01/04/2021 08:34

the alternative isn't that people don't see each other, that isn't realistic, it's that they socialise indoors and in private gardens (which much more easily turns into indoors).

I have family in Nottingham and they've said exactly the same.

Idliketoteachtheworldtosing1 · 01/04/2021 08:34

I live in the south east and the pictures of all the litter discarded everywhere despite bins being available is disgusting. I think that councils now have to tread a fine line because if they go ahead and open all the car parks and gates to parks they are liable to be swamped with loads of people who either won't be able to or won't want to distance themselves from others, I just worry that we will end up going around in a circle again!

TakeYourFinalPosition · 01/04/2021 08:39

Our parks have been the same, absolutely heaving and they look like landfills when everyone goes home. I’m surprised at how many people are out - I thought a lot of people would be getting back to work (from home, if not the office) but it’s been mayhem across all three parks that I live near.

Our police have more volunteers asking people to socially distance/take their rubbish etc at the moment but I wouldn’t be surprised if at least the gated one is closed again. It was during the summer last year.

It’s very upsetting for people who have no garden/outside space.

Hardbackwriter · 01/04/2021 08:49

I agree that the litter is awful, selfish and disgusting, but is that explicitly the reason they've closed the parks? Public spaces used to get trashed before Covid and I don't remember them being shut because of it? This feels to me like Covid being used as a pretext to shut public areas when it's actually for other reasons, and I think we should all be wary of that.

breadcheeseandpickle · 01/04/2021 08:50

And yet again it’s parents and children who are screwed over.

OP posts:
ConstanceGracy · 01/04/2021 08:52

My area has had parks open since the second lockdown but just 10 mins done the road they’re closed as apparently some teens and adults are feckless twats and don’t know how to behave so hang about in large groups drinking and trashing the place.
Pretty embarrassing and a shame for families who want to use them properly.

Parker231 · 01/04/2021 08:54

I don’t blame them for closing them. If people don’t respect the open spaces they can’t use them. Someone has to clear up all the rubbish.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 01/04/2021 08:55

Oh well they shouldn’t have closed everything and kept people penned in like animals/ treat people like animals and this is what you get!

HuxleyPigPanic · 01/04/2021 08:57

That is a bit of an own goal, they will meet in gardens and then go inside now.

jessstan2 · 01/04/2021 08:58

@breadcheeseandpickle

I'm sorry about that, they will open again though. According to your link they closed because of incidents.

Parks are not closed near me.
