To be pissed off that parks are closed?

AIBU to think this is not on?

I have complied with rules but despite some restrictions being lifted there still isn’t much on, and waking the streets is really no fun.

OP posts:

I think this was just a thinly disguised anti-lockdown thread.
A non-issue as parks around the UK haven't been closed. Locals already disputed the OP's claim that both of those parks are closed today.

ClarkeGriffin · 01/04/2021 15:04

Maybe the police should do their jobs rather than just going 'fuck it, let's close the parks'.

Pay more tax for more police? Or ask your councillors to hire more rubbish collectors?

The police have to reduce the likelihood of crime happening, they are doing that because adults can't be trusted. I'd be more embarrassed at the fact that our adults in this country are too dim to pick up litter than getting annoyed at police, but that doesn't seem to be the majority opinion on here. Would prefer to blame public services who are trying to protect people.

moochingtothepub · 01/04/2021 15:22

@breadcheeseandpickle

It's was parents and kids among the litter louts from the pictures I saw.

None of our parks have fences thankfully, but I was horrified by the mess I saw driving to work Tuesday morning

likeafishneedsabike · 01/04/2021 15:31

@Laiste

The littering is disgusting. No excuse.

But, as to the sheer numbers of people:

  • Shut everybody in all winter then allow ONE thing (meeting outside) just as the sunshine comes out.

No surprise really that it's going to be a bit chaotic. I don't understand all the shock.

Once swimming pools, sports lessons, the theatre, clubs, cafes, soft play, theme parks, ect are all open there wont be so many people all trying to do the ONE THING we're allowed to do at the same time. It's not rocket science.

I couldn’t agree with this comment more. The fact that EVERYTHING is still shut in the Easter holidays has actually created crowding rather than reduced it. Everyone heads to the park because it is illegal to go anywhere else! If the measures had been lifted then the population of the country would be spread across all the leisure venues rather than crammed into limited spaces. It’s an own goal by the ridiculous buffoons in charge, who have such large and luxurious gardens that they can’t imagine the need for parks anyway. So out of touch.

Yup, it's very transparent.
Plumbear2 · 01/04/2021 16:33

It's not just a case of litter can be cleared. In my local park it's taken volunteers 5 hours to clear the litter. Of course parks need to close when it takes this long to clear the aftermath.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 01/04/2021 19:49

@likeafishneedsabike if there had been a timely response to the Kent variant in December then this week or last would have been the time for non-essential shops to open.

@Frenchdressing

When did it become acceptable to behave like this? Every urban green space near me is totally trashed. It sickens me. I get people want to be out but just take your shit home! Utter selfish pricks.

Our local beach is a destination for drinkers and gas inhalers. The council cleans up twice a day but can’t keep in too if it. Shitty nappies just left so it’s not just teenagers.

As soon as the pubs open the better, then the trash of society will leave our beautiful green spaces free from filth squalor.
User133847 · 01/04/2021 20:24

Oh well they shouldn’t have closed everything and kept people penned in like animals/ treat people like animals and this is what you get!

No, it's feckless idiots with a festival mentality. Look at the state Glastonbury the Monday after (or any festival).

Scruffy fuckers who were dragged up with no respect for anyone or anything.

Lalliella · 02/04/2021 00:58

People are so stupid. I really hate people sometimes.

RatsolutelyFabulous · 02/04/2021 01:19

I agree, it’s annoying the parks near you have been closed. However, your point that it’s ruined it for parents and children, are you for real? Some parents and kids will be the ones leaving all the shite behind not just bloody younger ones!

I know that a lot will be students and the younger generation but round my area, walking around the park, it’s mainly parents and children throwing their shite on the floor that they can’t be arsed to bag up and take home.

This is inevitably what’s going to happen from now on. There always has been scraggers too lazy to clean up the mess they make, even more so coming out of lockdown and it being sunny.

But please don’t make out it’s only parents and the children that are suffering from them being closed. Every respectable person that can manage to take their litter home are suffering also!

worriedatthemoment · 02/04/2021 01:44

The council were caught out by the good weather coming early this time so only the normal small waste bins, which are inadequate on a normal day, were available. Not really surprising then that as soon as they were filled up people first piled litter around them then stopped bothering altogether so the park was littered with rubbish this time.
Yes it is surprising if the bins are full take your rubbish home its that simple
Its your waste so you deal with it and not expect someone else
These people took bags of stuff with them
How hard is it to carry the bag of rubbish home and put it in your own bin
No excuse its just lazy , inconsiderate and selfish

OutOfLine · 02/04/2021 11:13

You cant take smelly rubbish home on the bus.

Yes you can. What a dumb excuse.
You can dump your rubbish in a bin in the park, on your way to the bus stop or at home.
You carried it there. You can carry it back.

stackemhigh · 02/04/2021 12:28

You cant take smelly rubbish home on the bus

No one can tell it’s rubbish when it’s in a carrier bag!

Take your crap home

Unsure33 · 02/04/2021 18:02

Someone has to pick up and handle all that rubbish .

Selfish people ruining it for others .

Unsure33 · 02/04/2021 18:05

@UrAWizHarry

Why should the police have to spend their time stopping perfectly capable adults taking their own rubbish home and disposing it ?

It’s disgusting .

sue69m · 02/04/2021 18:33

Our very large park is open but the toilets are NOT!! Poor kids

sue69m · 02/04/2021 18:34

lurker101 · 02/04/2021 18:36

@sue69m can’t believe some public toilets still aren’t open, that’s awful! Where roughly are you? The Royal parks toilets in London have been open since about this time last year, and the train station toilets since last summer I think (and right through the various lockdowns since), I can’t imagine the struggle if they were closed.

sue69m · 02/04/2021 18:43

@lurker101
I'm in Chelmsford, Essex. The toilets were open before the school holiday, I know as I used them.. I think it's awful that tje little ones are being punished.
While out yesterday we saw a toddler about 3 years old hugging 3 boys about 5-7 playing out on their bikes. I asked granny if she knew them and she said no. Little lady just wanted to hug them and the boys were more than happy to accomodate her. They sat chatting with her about their bikes and allsorts.. Was a heart warming moment and I came away glowing.

Why should the majority of people not be able to access their public spaces because the police are too busy eating donuts and getting the covid restriction laws wrong?

Unsure33 · 02/04/2021 18:53

@UrAWizHarry

Creating a generalisation from isolated incidents . Wonderful .

I repeat why should the police be responsible for adults who can’t just take their rubbish home in a bag . And you do realise if it costs the councils extra to clear up you will end up paying more ?

Unsure33 · 02/04/2021 18:55

@Frenchdressing

I agree . I am a dog owner and I also get fed up of owners who leave poo bags hanging in bushes etc.

I don’t know why it has become such a “normal “ thing .

lurker101 · 02/04/2021 19:09

Oh dear @sue69m I was planning to go there soon.... might have to reconsider. Awww lovely. I’ve seen so many grandparents outside with kids recently, it’s making my heart sing seeing how happy they look to be reunited. And all the more keen to finally get to see mine!

ConferencePear · 02/04/2021 19:48

Alcohol is banned in at least two of Nottingham's park anyway. The council decided to shut them down because it cannot afford to keep cleaning them up; they have better thins to spend their money on.
