To audition for a film even though I’ve never acted?

GingerNinjer · 26/03/2021 07:21

Flyer calling for people with my accent to apply for a new project. No acting experience required. Well known director.
My last acting role was my school play when I was 11 years old as an extra 😂

They want a 1 minute video sent in ... it seems so unlikely but what if? Also should I mention my autism on the clip or would that look too try hard?

Argh!! Always dreamt of being an actress but I always knew it was a fantasy, this would be the first time I ever actually tried it! I’m a frumpy, 49 year old woman

I say do it. What have you got to lose ?

2021mumma · 26/03/2021 07:25

Do it!

MrsZola · 26/03/2021 07:25

Do it!!! What's the worst that could happen? Very exciting!!! 🤞😊

JorisBonson · 26/03/2021 07:26

I saw this. If I had the accent I'd come along with you! Good luck Smile

ScottishStottie · 26/03/2021 07:26

Id say do it, but not to expect anything to come from it. Then if it does its a bonus.

No i wouldnt mention autism, what sort of content for the video have they asked for?

GingerNinjer · 26/03/2021 07:27

It’s my favourite director too, I’ve always dreamt of being in one of his films. I reckon I can get through the video bit but if it went any further than that I reckon I’d crumble face to face! 😂

It was a bit vague, 1 minute clip, they want confident and witty - they say to tell them about yourself and perhaps tell a story. What story can you tell in less than a minute?

Go for it! You've nothing to lose by giving it a go.
Intrigued as to who the director is .

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 26/03/2021 07:30

I'm trying to get my other half and his friend to go for this! I'd love to do it but my accent isn't "yorkshire" enough.

Go for it OP. They've specifically said it's for people with no acting experience.

PrincessPea11 · 26/03/2021 07:31

Go for it!! They've specified they don't need acting experience so won't expect you to be an expert on the strasberg or meisner techniques or anything! Good luck

LunaNorth · 26/03/2021 07:32

It’s Shane Meadows, isn’t it?

I spent a day wondering if I should go for it too!

I will if you will Grin

PrincessPea11 · 26/03/2021 07:32

Ooh is it Yorkshire? I might have a go Smile

minniemoocher · 26/03/2021 07:33

Go for it, sounds like a great opportunity. Dd and I were extras once, lots of fun (no speaking though)

EscapeTheCastle · 26/03/2021 07:34

You must do it. Go on You Tube to find tips on how to make your own audition clip.
What fun!

TheKeatingFive · 26/03/2021 07:35

Go for it! Why not.

I wouldn’t mention autism at this stage.

LoveVelo · 26/03/2021 07:35

I don't think it's any secret about the director - Shane Meadows, it's been openly reported.
I also love his films, Dead Mans Shoes is brilliant!
OP, why not have a go? You already know the sort of characters Meadows typifies. Do a bit of research on the casting agency to get some idea of what may get their attention .
And good luck!

MLMsuperfan · 26/03/2021 07:35

Take your shot.

I've worked on things like this op, and often sent out calls for actors for various parts. We get all sorts of reply's.
I'd say go for it if you think you could do it.

lollipopsandrainbows · 26/03/2021 07:36

I've seen this flyer shared thousands of times. You will get people applying who don't even have a Yorkshire accent, so if you do have one then go for it.

My daughter acts so we've done many self tapes like this one. Make sure you watch the film so you know what type of wit they are looking for. Many people will have studied clips from if for their A-Levels, so will know it inside out. So if you don't, familiarise yourself with it. Make sure your lighting is good, tape in landscape and just be yourself! You can't mimic our accent easily, they will be looking for people that can do it naturally so if you're as "local" sounding as I am, I'd say you have as much of a chance as anyone. Have fun!

LunaNorth · 26/03/2021 07:37

I’m from Yorkshire, so I’ve got the accent Grin

LunaNorth · 26/03/2021 07:38

I’ve heard on the grapevine that it’s an adaption of The Gallows Pole, but that might be wrong.

LunaNorth · 26/03/2021 07:39

Adaptation. Sorry.

It gives no info on the film itself but all his films are pretty similar in their style. Working class Yorkshire is what he tends to go for ... I’m working class Yorkshire! 😁
