A friend and I were talking and I said about a man we work with being good looking. She said oh he would be if his teeth were straight. Aibu to think people are still be good looking with teeth that aren’t straight

Well mine are pretty awful so I hope not!

Aquamarine1029 · 18/03/2021 23:21

Like anything else, it's subjective.

TableFlowerss · 18/03/2021 23:24

You’re friends a dick! People can still be gorgeous despite have less than perfect teeth. In the same way people with perfect aren’t necessarily gorgeous.

Not many people are picture perfect in real life and if he had a nice face and was a nice guy then I wouldn’t be out off by his teeth!

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/03/2021 23:25

Two words. David Bowie.

TableFlowerss · 18/03/2021 23:25

To add- If Brad Pitt feel and chipped his tooth, I wouldn’t kick him out of bed because of it!

Lastnightidreamtofmanderley · 18/03/2021 23:26

Some people can be attractive with crooked teeth but a lot of people are more attractive with straight teeth. It’s all a personal preference

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 18/03/2021 23:27

It really depends on the person but i tell you one thing i cannot bear that overly white, overly symmetrical full on "Turkey Teeth" veneers that are so popular now.
Id pick slightly crooked teeth any day.
As long as they are clean, fresh & dont smell then what they look like isnt a massive priority for me.
But then i like men quite rugged Grin

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 18/03/2021 23:28

@MrsTerryPratchett

Two words. David Bowie.
This. He was never the same after he got them fixed; looked like he’d borrowed his Nan’s dentures.
Givemeabreak88 · 18/03/2021 23:28

Well of course it’s going to make someone look less attractive then if they didn’t have crooked teeth but they could still be attractive but obviously they would look better if they weren’t. My ex has a massive gap (it really is big ) between his front teeth and i remember my sister being horrified by it, she was shocked I would date him.

nameisnotimportant · 18/03/2021 23:29

I think people can have attractive features, however I personally am not attracted to people so the crooked teeth and I actually find them quite off putting. Obviously I would never tell somebody that but I generally find people more attractive if they have nice teeth

DramaAlpaca · 18/03/2021 23:31

It's very shallow I know, but nice teeth are a dealbreaker for me. They don't need to be perfect, a small imperfection can be very attractive, but badly crooked or missing teeth, just no.

StillMedusa · 18/03/2021 23:36

David Bowie with his original fangs.
Ronan Keating.. ditto.
Both lost something when they had americanised teeth fitted! (Ok I don't fancy Ronan Keating but David Bowie was just weirdly gorgeous )

Missing teeth..no.. get some false ones! But a few fangs or somewhat crooked but clean and in good condition, adds character.

LizzieMacQueen · 18/03/2021 23:39

I hate the look of perfectly finished teeth (aka veneers!). Obviously they are fake and generally I prefer natural, if crooked teeth.

Think here Andy Murray and his mum.

fantasmasgoria1 · 18/03/2021 23:40

I like crooked teeth. For me it adds to the attraction of a person.

PurpleDaisies · 18/03/2021 23:40

It depends how bad they are. Good teeth are a make or break for me in terms of finding someone attractive.

tangerinelollipop · 18/03/2021 23:44

Yes, I agree. Some look very attractive. The more natural, the better IMO

ginandwineandbaileys · 18/03/2021 23:47

I'm put off by perfection, whether it's perfect faces, bodies or teeth. Makes me feel uneasy

Elouera · 18/03/2021 23:50

There was a very good advert a while back where they had models smiling and in poses with green in their teeth, missing teeth, crooked teeth etc. The point of the advert was that the teeth were so distracting, that people failed to notice that the model was actually missing a finger, hand or whole limb!

Its true! Teeth and a nice smile are central to expressions and the face as a whole- hence its been difficult with masks. I wouldn't discount someone with bad teeth and have friends and ex's with crooked teeth. I do always find myself drawn to staring at crooked teeth more than their eyes though. Being honest, I would make the assumption that their parents couldn't afford braces or they themselves can't now!

I'm didn't grow up the UK, but having braces (if needed) was part of any other dental treatments when I was a teen. I do find it unusual that someone under 40 in the UK can have such un-alighned teeth that they can't break celloptape with their bite or are terribly crooked!

Ovine · 18/03/2021 23:50

I would far prefer natural, slightly crooked teeth to a double row of terrifying blue-white gnashers, Rebekah Vardy-style.

Elouera · 18/03/2021 23:52

I should add that veneers do look fake and project out further than than real teeth. Surely braces to straighten real teeth, whatever shape they are, is a better option?

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 18/03/2021 23:55

There’s a world of difference between someone with crooked teeth that are in good condition than someone with missing or bad teeth! I definitely wouldn’t be attracted to someone with missing or decayed teeth. The two things aren’t remotely the same, but some people are mentioning them in the same breath!

LeSquigh · 18/03/2021 23:58

I’m not put off by crooked teeth at all, it’s not something I would even think about. Sometimes it can make people more attractive, especially if the rest of their face is quite symmetrical.

FireflyRainbow · 18/03/2021 23:59

I stupid refused braces as a teen as I thought I'd look like a geek and as a thumb sucking child I have horrible teeth now. I feel so much better in a mask.

FireflyRainbow · 18/03/2021 23:59

Stupidly

BackforGood · 19/03/2021 00:07

I'd say your title question about if they make a person unattractive is a completely different question from that in your OP, which asks Aibu to think people are still be good looking with teeth that aren’t straight

So, yes, I'd say generally crooked teeth or a missing tooth or damaged teeth aren't seen as a positive if you are appraising someone's looks (posters on this thread aside Grin), but what makes someone attractive is genuinely about so much more than "good looks".
