A friend and I were talking and I said about a man we work with being good looking. She said oh he would be if his teeth were straight. Aibu to think people are still be good looking with teeth that aren’t straight

I think a bit crooked gives character

dontsaveusername · 19/03/2021 13:20

It's a major minus for me. I hated my crooked front teeth even though they were not that bad, but having had then straightened I am so much happier. I think I look better and feel far more confident

dontsaveusername · 19/03/2021 13:23

Mine are straight because of invisible liners not veneers.

OutsideTheWhiteHouse · 19/03/2021 13:29

I don’t mind crooked teeth at all, but discoloured teeth are off putting.

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 19/03/2021 13:56

These are my teeth. They're healthy and strong but the snaggletooth really knocks my confidence.

I was offered braces as a teen but the bite is bad and needed sorting and it was quite extensive work which I didn't want. I wasn't bothered by my teeth at the time.

I can't afford the treatment now. It would cost thousands to sort the bits first, then the snaggletooth. I try to hide it in the way I smile or talk but sometimes it almost draws attention to it. Sometimes you just have to put your worst foot forwards I guess. Or worst tooth in my case.

It’s correctable so it wouldn’t put me off. Rotten teeth would, crooked teeth no. Bright white Z lister veneers much much worse though. I’d have crooked teeth over Katie Price’s smile anyway.

justanotherneighinparadise · 19/03/2021 13:59

@thewinehasgonetomyheadbi bet you could get a composite bond put over that for a couple of hundred.

I think it sticks out too far for anything to cover it.

thewinehasgonetomyhead your teeth are clean and healthy and you have a lovely smile

Janegrey333 · 19/03/2021 14:22

The false white, overly straight teeth are unnatural and very unattractive. Why? Because in some cases, your own healthy teeth have been filed down in order to fit the falsers on top. Ugh.

littlepattilou · 19/03/2021 14:24

OMG No!

I think some of the cutest looking people have a 'kink' in their teeth, or an overbite, or just non-perfect teeth!

Like eg, actress Kirsten Dunst, and singers Avril Lavigne, and Jewel to name but 3.

There are some celebs who had a bit of a quirk to their teeth (Cheryl Tweedy, Martine McCutchen, Rylan Clark-Neal,) and they looked fine, and didn't need them veneering. Now they're veneered, they look weird. Too fake, too freakishly straight, too 'perfect,' and too white.

There's also a few people whose teeth were vastly improved by having their teeth done though (eg, Celine Dion.) Occasionally someone has teeth that DO need some work.

littlepattilou · 19/03/2021 14:30

@thewinehasgonetomyhead

THAT is the kind of 'quirky teeth' thing I was on about.

Your smile looks adorable. 😊

Also, as a pp said, your teeth look healthy, and a nice natural white!

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 19/03/2021 14:33

Thank you both @littlepattilou you have no idea how much that means to me.
mars2 · 19/03/2021 14:34

For an average looking person good teeth will improve them. For someone good looking they don't necessarily detract & can sometimes add something. Quirks can make someone very good looking sexier as they are less "perfect".

Big tombstone white teeth are not that attractive.

bananaboats · 19/03/2021 14:34

It's personally preference really like everything else, personally I don't like the fake "white gumshield" look but I do find crooked teeth unattractive and have had some minor cosmetic work done to mine.

Suzi888 · 19/03/2021 14:35

No, as long as they’re nice and clean!

Vierty · 19/03/2021 14:50

I like nice straight white teeth. Not veneer white but the straightness is important to me. I wouldn’t go out with someone with really crooked teeth I’m afraid

Mydarkside · 19/03/2021 14:53

I have always hated my teeth and thought they spoiled my looks so recently invested in braces . What's been baffling is the number of friends , colleagues and family who have said ' why on earth are you wearing braces - always thought you had great teeth ', which has totally thrown me as I've always thought people are secretly judging my teeth as they're less than perfect !

Bumwart21 · 19/03/2021 15:06

I have a tooth right at the front that's crooked and laps over and 2 vampy teeth which I've always been insecure about and don't ever smile with my mouth open in front of people , I was finally due to have a brace put on them but with covid that's been put on hold.. would be so much more happier once they are straight as I'm a very smiley person, but I don't hate them I've grown to not care as much and no one has ever made any comments about my teeth most people still say I have a nice smile and that it makes me who I am and unique having a little imperfection, so for now I'm cool with it until one day I can finally straighten them.

David Bowie, Billie Joe Armstrong...there might be more but its much nicer to have crooked teeth than some awful day glo perma white job that some celebs have!

BackforGood · 19/03/2021 15:10

Most people with crooked teeth are offered braces as a child, so in some cases those with poor teeth as an adult are those that didn’t carry out maintenance/don’t look after them.

Well, I never was, and have spent over 50 years looking after my teeth and going to the dentist every 6 months.
That's pretty upsetting to think that there are people thinking that about my crooked teeth Sad

UseOfWeapons · 19/03/2021 15:10

It does appear to be subjective.
I can’t bear very white, perfect teeth, they look like dentures left too long in bleach. Overwhitened teeth in general are a massive turn-off for me in anyone, male or female.

I prefer teeth and mouth to be natural, it adds character to the face, even if some teeth are missing. But I like craggy faces, lines, scars, bumps and lumps, and find the bland, stiff faces of many so-called celebrities ridiculous.

LolaSmiles · 19/03/2021 15:13

There's a middle ground. I don't find the shiny perfectly white teeth look attractive, but nor would I say I'm attracted to really 'bad' teeth either.

Most people probably fall in the not perfect but not horrendously crooked bracket .

Puddington · 19/03/2021 15:14

Not imo, my boyfriend has quite crooked teeth and I actually think they are adorable. It would be a different story if he had poor dental hygiene (he doesn't!) but on a purely aesthetic level it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

requitalissima · 19/03/2021 15:17

Look at Madonna, Vanessa Paradis et al. Depends on how crooked, if sideways or severely protruding then should be sorted. However, often slightly crooked teeth add something je ne sais quoi, a certain mischievousness and should be well left alone.
The worst teeth-related crime though is the lavatory-bowl-white gleaming monstrosities so many C-list 'celebrities' sport.
Ghastly.
