AIBU to ask for some help planning this?

I've been on mumsnet almost forever, and it's my go-to place for wisdom, help and advice. I don't really have a long time alive, as my cancer treatment has stopped working, so I'm hoping that some of you can help me plan a trip to Anglesey, so that I've seen somewhere that isn't these four walls during my Liverpool Lockdown!

I don't want to go much further afield, as I would feel better being easily accessible to medical care if necessary. The plan is to hire a car with my husband, who'll drive, and stay a night or two in B&Bs, taking in some coastal views and sunsets.

I'd love to trawl antique shops.
I'd like to take the dog, if possible, though this isn't really essential.
Outdoors is good, but I'll have to use a wheelchair for more than short distances.
I like the idea of "hidden gems" in terms of places to visit (who doesn't?) but comfort is good too.
I'll wait for the weather to warm up a bit, so in a few weeks is fine (I hope!).

I don't want to annoy anybody, but I'd like to use this thread for a bit of support and encouragement, and keep bumping it for more ideas and suggestions.so I can make this trip as special as possible. As Anglesey isn't all that far from where I live, I could split the trip into a few parts.

So, can you help? AIBU?

Been think of you BOF and great to see you have your own thread here.

Decades ago I had a Welsh boyfriend from Llandudno and we went over to Anglesey one day. I remember nothing about it all so that's really pointless information!

Have an ice cream/cocktail/joint on me. I like to hear how you're getting on.

BitOfFun · 16/03/2021 10:25

This has been amazing, @Beenaroundnow, and a wonderful idea. I'd just like to echo what marriednotdead wrote last night, and say that it's lovely to be able to hear that I might have made a small difference to people I will never know beyond mumsnet. We do touch each other's lives without really realising it, so appreciate those virtual friendships while you have the chance!

@Acinonyx2 , I didn't want to hijack our cancer thread with Anglesey tips, but it seems like everybody in the land has actually been there, and if they haven't, now they want to Grin. Isn't it fantastic?

Pleasure to ensure you get a great meal in my childhood and much visited since land!

Acinonyx2 · 16/03/2021 13:50

I think you'll get a lot more tips like this! As well as a nice change of virtual scene. I've started wandering around mnet a bit more.

BitOfFun · 16/03/2021 14:17

I've asked MNHQ to remove Cocolapew's cheeky little link mention, btw- I don't want people beating a path to the door to send me things! Truly, MN is full of the loveliest people.

I'm so sorry to hear your prognosis @BitOfFun - just very glad I had the chance to meet up with you. Remember - back in the day, when meet ups were the thing?!

An ex boyfriend grew up in Beaumaris in a little white cottage overlooking the Straits. He took me back there one summer when I was 19 and I was overwhelmed by how peaceful it was. The quietness just fills you up. Did you know Anglesey (or the Isle of Mons as it was known) was the last bastion of pagan worship in the UK? It was a vibrant centre for music, healing and druidism back in the day. It wouldn't surprise me if that has helped create it's tranquil atmosphere. It's certainly a very spiritual place and I wish you a relaxing journey x

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 16/03/2021 15:24

Never been to Wales myself so I can't help with your trip BOF but as a long term mn user who recognises you, just wanted to chime in and wish you a fabulous trip and send an unmumsnetty hugFlowers

Sohum · 16/03/2021 15:33

Donated. Hope you have a brilliant trip. Have a Mr Whippy on me

mathanxiety · 16/03/2021 20:44

@BitOfFun, so sorry to hear your news, and quite teary at your fortitude.

mejon · 16/03/2021 22:18

Oh BoF, I'm so sorry to hear your prognosis. We've corresponded over 'Trolls of this Parish' and I was very grateful for the heads-up you gave me on more than one Wink.

Wishing you a fabulous trip to Ynys Mon - we seem to be opening up sooner here than the rest of the UK, so hopefully there'll be lovely things for you to do and see. DaffodilDaffodil

Hey, BitofFun, I’m really sad to hear your news. I’ve name changed over the last decade and I don’t post much but I’ve read your kind and frequently funny words all that time. Wishing you a gorgeous trip. I like Beaumaris but Anglesey’s all beautiful and will I hope bring you immeasurable and richly deserved joy.

Babieseverywhere · 17/03/2021 10:02

BoF, I remember so many of your threads over the years. You are part of what makes Mumsnet great, by having fabulous posters like you. Giving great advice and making us laugh or cry, sometimes on the same thread! Smile

We will be poorer for losing you. I wish it could be through choice, that you were leaving to retire to Anglesey for years, eating icecream, watching the sunsets. Happy with no wifi to contact us from.

I hope you really enjoy your planned trip to Anglesey and that you fit in many, many wonderful happy experiences and make happy memories with your DH.

Oh you lovely lady

As I said earlier in the thread, the one positive we can take from this is that we all have the opportunity to tell you how much we bliddy love you. From the start (2008 for me) your posts always stood out to me and I love to read your comments and calming influence on crazy threads.

I remember years ago you namechanged to LeBOF or BOFfy or some other incarnations. I wasn't happy! I knew who you were but I just like your username, the capitals have to be in the right places too Grin

So yeah I have a total girl crush on you, Blush Grin I have always thought if we knew eachother IRL we would be mates.

FlibbertyGiblets · 17/03/2021 12:39

Yes! ^ .

I don't think BOF is planning that kind of weekend! What? Mr Whippy is ice cream?! Right. I'm having serious words with DH when he gets home! 😂

FiveGoMadInDorset · 17/03/2021 14:00

Dear BOF, life definitely throws a steaming pile of shite sometimes, so sorry to read this, enjoy planning your trip 💐❤️

purdypuma · 17/03/2021 15:49

Trearddur Bay is beautiful! Would thoroughly recommend based on many visits there as a child & would love to visit again in the future. No up to date knowledge though.
Whatever you manage to arrange I hope you have a wonderful time x

Skap · 17/03/2021 16:05

BOF I remember you from years ago, you kept the same name when most people including me changed. I knew your bad news from the cancer thread but just found this. I'm sorry the whip round finished because I reckon MN would probaby have paid for your whole trip with added bells and whistles.

I once went to Anglesey with a mad friend who went windsurfing and was never happy unless he got rescued by the coastguard. I remember nothing else about it but reading the posts on here makes me want to go. Xx

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 17/03/2021 16:15

Dear BoF, I'm so sorry to hear your update. You are one of the truly good guys and you have made all my many years on MN a real pleasure. I am wishing you all the very best and sending you the most massive hugs from Toronto.

We never made it to Wales all those years we lived in the UK so I am planning on living vicariously through your photos and travel journal!

Shosha1 · 17/03/2021 16:18

Oh Bof, I don't know anything of Anglesey, but had to post. I have been here as long as you I think. Back when we had Lissie's tea shop and the Bar. When we were rooting for misdee's Peter and his heart transplant. I couldn't let your Op go without wishing you joy in your adventure with your DH, and a peaceful time after. Xxx
