BOF's Big Bucket List Trip To Anglesey! *MNHQ editing title to say that there is some very sad news contained in this thread. Sending love to all*

AIBU to ask for some help planning this?

I've been on mumsnet almost forever, and it's my go-to place for wisdom, help and advice. I don't really have a long time alive, as my cancer treatment has stopped working, so I'm hoping that some of you can help me plan a trip to Anglesey, so that I've seen somewhere that isn't these four walls during my Liverpool Lockdown!

I don't want to go much further afield, as I would feel better being easily accessible to medical care if necessary. The plan is to hire a car with my husband, who'll drive, and stay a night or two in B&Bs, taking in some coastal views and sunsets.

I'd love to trawl antique shops.
I'd like to take the dog, if possible, though this isn't really essential.
Outdoors is good, but I'll have to use a wheelchair for more than short distances.
I like the idea of "hidden gems" in terms of places to visit (who doesn't?) but comfort is good too.
I'll wait for the weather to warm up a bit, so in a few weeks is fine (I hope!).

I don't want to annoy anybody, but I'd like to use this thread for a bit of support and encouragement, and keep bumping it for more ideas and suggestions.so I can make this trip as special as possible. As Anglesey isn't all that far from where I live, I could split the trip into a few parts.

So, can you help? AIBU?

You’re a fox and no mistakin’, BoF. I remember the painting your DH (then DP) did of you you once posted on here. Utterly gorgeous.

DisaL · 15/03/2021 12:35

I don't have any Anglesey knowledge to share but just wanted to say that I'm thinking of you and hope you get to go on your trip soon.

iklboo · 15/03/2021 13:55

Ah bollocks BOF. I'm sorry to hear your news. As Zombie used to say - Damn Bugger Fuck. Hugs to you and I don't care if they are unmumsnetty. Anglesey is beautiful.

greendress789 · 15/03/2021 14:25

Wow that picture of you is STUNNING 😍😍😍😍😍

DavidsSchitt · 15/03/2021 14:33

So sorry to hear that BoF

I've only been to Anglesey once but it was fabulous and Dylan's was lovely. I had the lobster. Enjoy x

Beenaroundnow · 15/03/2021 14:45

With the go ahead from BoF and MNHQ I’ve set up a go fund me.
Feel free to put a little something towards a decent meal out. If there’s more than enough for that then BoF would like the extra to go towards her hospice but it will be hers to spend as she wants.

Yikes, that's amazing, thank you so much! I'm nervous that people might think I'm hoovering up dosh though...how do these things work? Can they be capped so there isn't an excess?

I can turn it off after a certain time or after a set amount.
I don’t think people will think that though Wink

peak2021 · 15/03/2021 15:08

Sorry to read of your news. Beaumaris is lovely, and so I hope I can spell it correctly, whilst a bit touristy, you should visit
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerchwyrndrobllllantisiliogogogoch.

BobRossPaints · 15/03/2021 15:10

@Beenaroundnow - what a lovely idea, I've just donated ☺️

@BitOfFun - I've been going to Anglesey every year (often several times) since I was 3 - I'm now 47!!

You must go to Beaumaris - it's lovely and has a brilliant antique shop, as does Menai.

Cemaes Bay is lovely, as is Moelfre (amazing ice cream shop) and Lligwy (the cafe in the car park does fantastic bacon sandwiches and homemade cakes). Newborough beach is stunning and there's a lovely place in Llangefni called Dingle Dell. It's woodland but has a sort of decking path all the way through so could be good for accessibility.

I'm quite new here but you're obviously well loved by many. I wish you the happiest of trips and am sending good thoughts your way 💐

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 15/03/2021 15:18

We met on a train once BOF a very long time ago when I was using another name. You were showing me a picture on your phone...

It's even longer ago that I last went to Anglesey but we did stay in a nice one storey holiday cottage not too far from the RAF base. Would probably be accessible. I will see if I can find it.

VivaDixie · 15/03/2021 15:34

I have donated - I placed my surname as 'Love to BOF xxx' but it shortened me to 'Love' so I now look like a hippy! Grin Please have a drink on me Smile

Anglesey is beautiful, we go every year. We went to Aberffraw recently and this is a lovely little village with an accessible long beach.

Definitely turn your sat nav when you're driving around. It has no clue about Welsh & it's so funny!

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/03/2021 15:43

Oh BoF what shitty news. Big unmumsnetty hugs to you.

I've never been to Angelsey - my mental image is of oak groves and druids hacking at the mistletoe with sickle knives.

I hope you find the Druid Magic, or it finds you x

Peridot1 · 15/03/2021 15:59

I’ve donated too. Lovely idea. Thanks for organising Beenaroundnow.

Dumbledoresgirl · 15/03/2021 16:01

Never been to Anglesey, or maybe once as a small child. I had a trip planned there last year which was the first thing blocked by the first lockdown. Maybe one year? Anyway, all that means I can't recommend anything, but I wanted to add my love to you BOF and say how sorry I was to read your news. I don't know if my name means anything to you but I always remember you fondly from years ago and have resurrected my old username in honour of this thread. I've also donated to the fund, so splash out on an ice cream on me. Lots of love, DG.

Great idea! I've chipped in too Smile

@Cocolapew

MNHQ redacted this oneSmile
Oh Gawd, I'm going to look like a right grabby see you next Tuesday GrinShock. The FB book group one has been set up by my co- founder, and is totally separate to this: I called her weeping to tell her about how lovely everybody has been on this thread, and she has kinda run with the idea herself too...

I won't lie, things have been rather squeaky for a while- as you can imagine, DH hasn't exactly been in the headspace to work while taking care of me. I'm not expecting the reading of my last will and testament to do anything but piss people off Grin.

Please ignore all this fundraising stuff if it bothers you- I'd be so embarrassed to be 'outed as a troll' after all these years Grin.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/03/2021 16:12

Well, I don't do Facebook (I'm afeared it will steal my soul) so I'm v pleased there's a MN alternative.

Cocolapew · 15/03/2021 16:12

Of course you're not going to look grabby, those ice creams aren't going to buy themselves.
I predict an influx of MNetters to Wales after this thread, everyone is selling it well Grin

BitOfFun · 15/03/2021 16:13

Ah, you don't know what it means to see all the familiar faces here! Dumbledoresgirl, you are actual Royalty, of course I know you!

Right, I've got to go for my NanaNap™ now. If I come back to a bunfght, you are all in big trouble Grin.

Chasingsquirrels · 15/03/2021 16:29

Crap news to read BoF, I wish you good times in the coming months and hopefully longer. Another one who has been around and appreciated your posts over the many years.

I spent many a holiday and weekend on Anglesey as a child, my grandparents had a caravan near to Plas Newydd.

This thread is bringing back some memories & bringing some long time posters out of the woodwork!

BIWI · 15/03/2021 16:40

I was a very small child when last I went to Anglesey, so have nothing helpful to add.

Just to say I hope that you have a great time - so many fantastic suggestions already.

Oh, and a big womanly punch on your shoulder xxx
