AIBU to ask for some help planning this?

I've been on mumsnet almost forever, and it's my go-to place for wisdom, help and advice. I don't really have a long time alive, as my cancer treatment has stopped working, so I'm hoping that some of you can help me plan a trip to Anglesey, so that I've seen somewhere that isn't these four walls during my Liverpool Lockdown!

I don't want to go much further afield, as I would feel better being easily accessible to medical care if necessary. The plan is to hire a car with my husband, who'll drive, and stay a night or two in B&Bs, taking in some coastal views and sunsets.

I'd love to trawl antique shops.
I'd like to take the dog, if possible, though this isn't really essential.
Outdoors is good, but I'll have to use a wheelchair for more than short distances.
I like the idea of "hidden gems" in terms of places to visit (who doesn't?) but comfort is good too.
I'll wait for the weather to warm up a bit, so in a few weeks is fine (I hope!).

I don't want to annoy anybody, but I'd like to use this thread for a bit of support and encouragement, and keep bumping it for more ideas and suggestions.so I can make this trip as special as possible. As Anglesey isn't all that far from where I live, I could split the trip into a few parts.

So, can you help? AIBU?

It's in Conwy itself. Drew Pritchard's shop.

I think some development is happening at Penrhos, I've seen a campaign against it...

Rhuddlan has a good castle & a great Cheesemonger, if you need a diversion off the A55.

Have a great trip. 🤗

AnyFucker · 14/03/2021 17:16

Hiya, mate

My only experience of Anglesey is driving straight through the middle of it to reach the Irish ferry port. You’ve got some great suggestions upthread.

AnyFucker · 14/03/2021 17:17

I am glad things will soon be opening up so you can get out and about a bit x

stayathomegardener · 14/03/2021 17:29

So sorry to hear your health news @BitOfFun enjoy Anglesey.

singsingbluesilver · 14/03/2021 17:40

Hi - lots pf great ideas here.

If no one has mentioned it - you can get right down to the sea to park up by the sea zoo/ halen mon. It's a lovely place to sit in the car and enjoy the view over to Caernarfon if you are not able to walk far.

If you go to Langoed you can also park right by the sea there. As others have said the route from there on to Penmon priory and the lighthouse is lovely and takes you right along the coast.

Red Wharf bay has a car park right on the beach. There are a couple of lovely places to eat down there as well - but book in advance in the busier months.

To the north of the island there is a fabulous pub for meals - The White Eagle in Rhoscolyn - it has a nice big pub garden too. The little bays at that end of the island are stunning. Just outside Holyhead is Penrhos Park - again you can park right next to the sea. Worth going to see the red squirrels and all of the lovely sea birds.

BitOfFun · 14/03/2021 20:03

Yay for red squirrels! I didn't know there was another reserve outside Formby.

I really like the idea of exploring Thurstaston etc while I'm trying to be patient about Wales opening up- great plan!

@BitOfFun, you are very welcome.

I've found this website which might help you too
www.accessiblecountryside.org.uk/anglesey

Rory looks absolutely gorgeous. You will be pleased to hear that a lot of places on Anglesey are also dog friendly Smile

BitOfFun · 14/03/2021 20:41

Excellent, thank you!

Last time i went to Beaumaris, I'm sure the shop i was in had a leaflet about dog friendly cafes, shops, beaches etc nearby might be worth sending the tourist office an email. Wishing you a most magical holiday.

thesunwillout · 14/03/2021 21:07

Bof

I'm so saddened, I've known you on here for years.
Wasn't there once a painting, a beautiful painting that your DH had done of you?
I remember thinking wow, girl crush.

Just to let you know I'm thinking of you.
Xxxx

tealandteal · 14/03/2021 21:18

I'm so sorry to hear about your health, I haven't been for quite a few years so I'm afraid I don't recall how accessible it might be but I'm sure a tourist type website could tell you - Newborough Forest/beach is beautiful and so peaceful.

BitOfFun · 14/03/2021 21:59

Oh @thesunwillout, you are a proper love to remember that! And you know I need little excuse to bust it out again Grin. It was the first painting he ever did of me, and he gave it to me for our first Christmas.

I love that painting BoF (and the sexier one Wink). You really are a stunner!

When you work out your itinerary and dates you’ll have to let us know so we can all ‘join’ you on your journey. Some of the ideas you’ve been given are really great and have made me realise in all the years we’ve been visiting the fam on Anglesey there is so much we haven’t done - this year may be the one to remedy that!

greendress789 · 14/03/2021 22:10

Dear BOF, I remember you from the monthly(?) weight loss threads. So sorry to hear your news. Hope you have a lovely trip 🌹🌹

Ifixfastjets · 14/03/2021 22:10

Sorry to hear your prognosis.
Something different...
On the a5, not far from holyhead. Is RAF valley.
If you go at the right time, they close the a5 as the jets are coming in to the airport on "aborted landing" training.
Their wheels literally touch the road then they fly off again.
Plenty of surfers on newboroug beach.
Llanfairpwllgwyn....is touristy.
As is beaumaris castle
Enjoy your trip.

ThereOnceWasANote · 14/03/2021 22:40

Another good rainy day thing is Plas Newydd - beautiful stately home on the straits.
That painting is just beautiful.

BitOfFun · 14/03/2021 22:51

Great idea, @exLtEveDallas WinkGrin.

BOF I am going to read the thread and post suggestions tomorrow as am going to bed but I just want to say I have followed you for about 12 years now and this post has literally floored me.

I love your posts and remember you posting some artwork done of you hears ago and you are a stunner. But I love engaging with you so I am going to mark my AVE on this thread.

Before I log off I can say that our favourite place is Rhosneigr - a cess to the beach is so easy for a wheelchair and the vibe on the beach at sunset is amazing. I remember taking DS1 a couple of years ago when he was 9 and he said (as a result of this) his ambition was to be a surf dude 😊

Serin · 14/03/2021 22:59

Hi BoF, sending hugs, I've seen your posts many times on here. We go to Anglesey quite a lot and this is our favourite hotel to stay in. They are dog friendly too. www.booking.com/hotel/gb/ye-olde-bulls-head-inn.en-gb.html
Beaumaris is a wonderful place to base yourselves.

VivaDixie · 14/03/2021 23:00

Just seen that the artwork is posted upthread 😊 I posted before reading and totally remember this!

@thesunwillout I fancied her when I saw this too 😍

Peridot1 · 14/03/2021 23:07

Oh BOF. I am sorry to read this. I’ve been on here for years under a few names and you’ve always been someone I recognise- and in a good way!

I hope you have a wonderful time. Huge hugs.

MzHz · 14/03/2021 23:08

Me too (hissy) wishing you all the love in the world a s so sorry to hear this

Me and ds went to THE WEIRDEST dinosaur museum in Anglesey, wonder if it’s still here

(((Hug)))

BitOfFun · 14/03/2021 23:10

A big hug to you, Viva- I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, and I do know it can affect you to 'lose' someone you've known only from this place. We hang out here, we form bonds, sometimes it's the only place where we can really talk...remember CatThiefKeith? MaryAnnSingleton? Quite a few others.

@exLtEveDallas I can't remember which sexier one I may have ventured Grin, but there's a heavily cropped photograph DH showed me the full version of earlier tonight from when we first met. I think you can tell there was a spark between us, definitely...Grin.
