Someone that is controversial in the media or comes across unpleasant on TV or whatever?

What were they like in real life?

AIBU to think there might be some surprises and some of them will be a persona on TV or whatever?

I’ve just name changed as this story is definitely outing.
Robert de Niro is well known for being set up with young pretty black girls. My friend was approached to have dinner with him. She was really excited to go and went. I was pretty horrified as were most of our group at the time. She just had dinner so not terrible in the end and she did go out with Robert de Niro ! The whole thing seemed really demeaning though, the idea that he clicks his fingers and women are approached by his team. It was in Toronto.

Not Mary Berry, then. Noel Fielding or Matt Lucas? Or Tom Allen? I agree that Paul Hollywood isn't quirky.

My first thought (especially with the 'quirky' suggestion) was the one that's neither female nor interested (in that way) in females....

JosieJarker · 16/03/2021 21:56

Ive met Noel Fielding and thought he was really warm and lovely.
For villains I had the misfortune of serving Katie prices ex husband Alex the transvestite.
Obnoxious, attention seeking and nowhere near as funny, charming or good looking as he thinks he is. She's well rid.

FuckYouCovid19 · 16/03/2021 22:00

I've met Harvey Weinstein. I worked in a large, fancy hotel in early 2000. He was there with a young, famous 90s actress.

I was more excited about the actress who I knew from movies. He was polite and uninteresting for the short time I met him.

jinglebitch · 16/03/2021 22:19

For those thinking David Williams is creepy- I’ve met him a few times, and genuinely all the heterosexual females present were absolutely weak at the knees. He’s really tall, beautifully dressed, and just very very sexy. I’ve always found him unbelievably lovely too, though most of those meetings were “public”. ( Simon Cowell was nice, but absolute ashtray, smoked every ten minutes. Amanda was attentive and has a wicked sense of humour, but she and Simon have had so much surgery they don’t look human.)

I’ve met Bryan Adams and he was really lovely. Super friendly and proud of his children.

When I was younger a friend was playing Lolita in a theatre production at the Edinburgh fringe. She was in her early 20s, but looked younger. She was out on the royal mile one day handing out flyers (dressed in costume) and Paul Daniel’s started hitting on her and asked her out. Don’t know what Debbie was up to

Bryan Adam isn’t a celeb villain is he? Confused

Surely it shouldn't wait until they're dead, they should be held to account now.

They should. But once they're dead, the danger of being sued for defamation is gone, so allegations are more likely to come out. Even when the allegations are true, there's sometimes a difficult burden of proof to be shifted.

Lochmorlich · 16/03/2021 22:40

@Literallynoidea some years ago at a dinner Chris Tarrant was the after dinner speaker.
My db friend was there with his son, aged about 10 and he (dc) asked for his autograph.
Tarrant told him to fuck off.

When I was 18 on my way home from Magaluf we seen the actor who plays les in the airport bar nursing a pint. I said alright les and he told me to fuck off 😂*

Everything about this anecdote has made me cry with laughter!

Absy · 16/03/2021 22:42

Agreed @Bluntness100 but someone mentioned him up thread as being lovely and I thought I’d back them up
Only vaguely villianish person I’ve met in real life are Chris evans (radio presenter). He was ok

Mreggsworth · 16/03/2021 23:18

Just going to chip in with some vague wish washy and pointless information on MM.

My friends cousin worked in catering at an event she was at, and described her as "okay". Not overly friendly/bubbly, but not rude or standoffish either. He didnt have many interactions apart from offering her things and getting an occasional "no thank you".

Sorry very boring insight. But maybe famous people can just be....normal?

David walliams is very creepy. Simon cowell seems nice, but obviously something secretive about him.

Who is the quirky baking presenter?!
Noel fielding seems nice 🤷🏻‍♀️

Can’t believe no one has mention P schofield , isn’t he meant to be a horror

Bettercallsaul1 · 16/03/2021 23:53

But the story wasn’t just that she dumped the clothes on the floor ( not that I believe this for a minute) - it was that she also gratuitously insulted a young member of staff on the way out, reducing her to tears.

Witchcraftandhokum · 16/03/2021 23:53

I worked with a celeb who at the time was being pilloried in the press for being a 'love rat'. He was a complete and utter bellend.

Iamthewombat · 17/03/2021 00:10

Was it Ronan Keating? He is the most recent famous love rat I can remember. Him or John Terry.

eatsleepread · 17/03/2021 00:17

I've a friend whose job is booking high-end comedy acts. I asked him who is the nicest - and most horrid - comedian.
Best - Johnny Vegas
Worst - Peter Kay

YouokHun · 17/03/2021 00:40

@eatsleepread I’ve always loved Peter Kay but there seem to be a lot of less than complimentary comments about him. I’ve never come across PK but I know people who have dealt with him and they all pull a face. I’ve met JV and he is lovely.

That doesn't surprise me. I've never met him but have encountered his ex-wife when buying shoes and she is similarly charming.
23PissOffAvenueWF · 17/03/2021 04:14

Some people really not getting the point of the thread. Grin

I’m amazed that anyone would think it ‘impossible’ that people would dump clothes they’d tried on. Of course this happens. All the time.

Nasty Nick from BB was a regular in a City wine bar I worked in, in 1999, before he want into the BB house. He was perfectly normal and polite. Which is a hell of a lot more than could be said of many of the punters.

Witchcraftandhokum · 17/03/2021 05:42

Iamthewombat No, it was 20 something years ago. I'm not protecting him by not naming him, I'm protecting me, just in case I want to work in the entertainment industry again.

RampantIvy · 17/03/2021 06:50

@Bumblebee1980a

Yes David Dickinson. I use to leave down the road from him. He's a miserable man. Drove a posh car and his lovely wife in a battered mini. I said hi to him (like you do when you walk past someone in the country) whilst walking my dog and he blanked me. He always looked cross and miserable.
DH was on a flight with him and says that he was awful to the flight attendants. He was very up himself in a "do you know who I am?" kind of way.

I'm guessing it was the original love rat - Darren Day?
