Someone that is controversial in the media or comes across unpleasant on TV or whatever?

What were they like in real life?

AIBU to think there might be some surprises and some of them will be a persona on TV or whatever?

Jimmy Savile when my mum was in Stoke Mandeville, he was very kind. Rolf Harris was a friendly neighbour for a while. My boss had a showdown with Kenneth Noye over unpaid bills. We went to his house and he paid up.

I met Jimmy Savile about 50 years ago in a cafe, and I can't say I remember much.

I've never met any of the current crop of villains you see on TV like Cheryl Cole, Hugh Grant, Stephen Fry or Gino D'Acampo.

What have the "current crop" done? I don't read the papers much so not heard anything about any of them?

TooMinty · 13/03/2021 21:54

Or was Cheryl Cole the one who slaps people?

Cbeebiesischeesy · 13/03/2021 22:21

I have a reverse of this 🤷🏻‍♀️
So surprising to me as I really expected her to be completely different and very lovely.
She presents morning tv every day.

Chanjer · 13/03/2021 22:26

Charlie Kray - massive dickhead

ouchmyfeet · 13/03/2021 22:30

Not quite what you asked, but I met a horrible man who is famed as a national treasure. Cliff Richard, what a pompous twat.

toddlermom · 13/03/2021 22:30

Yes! Meghan Markle. Incredibly charming to the people there who were useful, rich or powerful.
And incredibly dismissive and rude to staff, drivers or anyone she deemed unworthy.

DartmoorChef · 13/03/2021 22:31

I met Alan sugar a couple of times and he's a lovely bloke. Very down to earth and friendly.

Slacktide · 13/03/2021 22:35

Both Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy, but I suppose it depends on your definition of ‘villainous’. Grin

Slacktide · 13/03/2021 22:35

Oh, and Kevin Spacey.

Niconacotaco · 13/03/2021 22:36

I sold chewing gum to Nasty Nick from Eastenders!

I wouldn't put Piers Morgan in the same category as Jimmy Saville and sometimes on GMB found Piers quite respectful to the guests and l really like him on Life Sories so would imagine him to be ok. Bit like Simon Cowell maybe.

brogo · 13/03/2021 22:42

Yes I've met piers Morgan about 5 years ago, went to a garden party at his parents house . He is a nice guy, don't agree with all of his opinions but definitely agree with his right to say them.

Cbeebiesischeesy · 13/03/2021 22:47

For some reason I imagine Piers Morgan to be a decent guy in real life 🤷🏻‍♀️

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 13/03/2021 22:50

Got in a lift with DLT the hairy cornflake at Euston Station. He was with a couple of other guys who behaved perfectly normally in the lift, but he was doing the "try hard, twinkly-twinkly, Loooook at MEEEEEEEEE" thing, I did not recognise him, but said to dh "he was weird" and then DH told me who he was.

It was nice to know my creep-ometer was still in good and working condition.

that message came up and my original post did not even show...be interested in an explanation MNHQ!

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 13/03/2021 22:58

@toddlermom ooh really? Did you get to speak to her?

LunaNorth · 13/03/2021 23:00

I used to have a regular customer in my bookshop who was a retired prison officer.

She knew Myra Hindley very well - said she was a nice woman.

I’d hate to think who she’d call a cunt.

littleloopylou · 13/03/2021 23:02

No, but I'm placemarking as I find this fascinating!

Nope, as I said, total cunt. DH is friends with someone who worked closely with him for years and hasn't got a single positive thing to say about him. Misogynistic pig.
EstuaryBird · 13/03/2021 23:08

I met Axl in 2016, when he was in UK with AC/DC, at a Q&A session.
He was really nice - friendly, outgoing, looked you in the eye when he spoke to you.
I’m a big fan but I still thought he might be a bit ‘off’....but he was lovely.

TheFutureIs · 13/03/2021 23:10

I was so chuffed to get a photo with Rolf Harris........ now don't mention it so much. He seemed like a lovely bloke

lunar1 · 13/03/2021 23:12

@pawsies

Thinking along the lines of Piers Morgan or Jimmy Saville

I don't know why these two men are in the same sentence, they are in no way comparable.

I met saville many times growing up as he lived very near my school. He was always a fucking creep and everyone knew it.
