Is this dirty?

I have cleaners come every forthright. They basically do a deep clean of the whole house-hoover, mop, kitchen, all bathrooms, all bedrooms, all polishing downstairs etc, plus the upstairs banging and terrace at the front. Plus change beds and clean oven and fridge, clean windows.
In-between this I keep it tidy (toddler, so it’s tricky!) clean and bleach toilets and obviously keep kitchen clean, wash dishes after use.
Am I doing enough or is this unacceptable? I’d ideally love them to do this every week not fortnight, but it’s pricey and they’re busy with other clients.

*Upstairs balcony not banging

What's acceptable is up to you. The stuff you delegate to your cleaner gets done far less often in my house, but none of us mind. DH has never wanted a cleaner in the house even pre-covid, and thinks I'm pernickety about making sure everything's hoovered when we have guests.

Twistered · 12/03/2021 18:24

Yes it's fine

Cbeebiesischeesy · 12/03/2021 18:25

@lanthanum That’s reassuring! I feel
It gets messy in between but seriously hate meaning and find most of my energy goes on keeping it tidy and all the other bits done, hence having a cleaner!

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 12/03/2021 18:26

Wouldn’t want to go 2 weeks without changing beds. The rest is fine.

Aquamarine1029 · 12/03/2021 18:26

Personally, I change my sheets once a week at a minimum, but if you're happy with things the way they are, that's just fine.

hauntedvagina · 12/03/2021 18:26

You're paying a cleaner to clean, not admire your cleaning. What you're doing sounds fine.

CrazyOldBagLady · 12/03/2021 18:28

Sounds bang on to me. I would imagine your house appears to be very clean most of the time.

emmathedilemma · 12/03/2021 18:29

Personally I do bed sheets every 10 days or so and there's only me sleeps in it so I tend to change sides half way through the week. Not sure I'd want to share sheets for 2 weeks. I need to dust and hoover every week due to allergies. My hard surface floors would be grim if they were only done fortnightly.

Notaroadrunner · 12/03/2021 18:30

What do you mean are you doing enough? I wouldn't clean that much in a month in my house and it wouldn't cost me a thought. I don't have a cleaner so we manage it ourselves to our own satisfaction. It depends on what level of cleanliness you aspire to, not what the rest of us think.

WorraLiberty · 12/03/2021 18:31

Unacceptable to who?

Why do you need other people's acceptance of your personal choices?

PlanDeRaccordement · 12/03/2021 18:32

It’s up to you really, I see that as bare minimum. Having cleaners every two weeks isn’t a “deep clean” though. They only do surface cleaning. They aren’t going to do things like wipe your walls and skirting boards down, wash curtains, shampoo rugs & upholstery, clean inside kitchen cabinets, clean inside of fridge. Those are “deep clean” things to my understanding.

JillsFlapjacks · 12/03/2021 18:37

I need to do my floors and dusting a lot, but we have animals and hard floors, as well as carpets/rugs. The hard floors in particular get dust and hair flying everywhere if I don't do it daily. Thank you labrador. My youngest has eczema, so I can't really leave it much longer than this.

If you feel it's fine in between cleans, then it's fine. Your cleaner is there to sort it, and I'd do the same if I could!

MsChatterbox · 12/03/2021 18:38

It's fine. If you did more then they would be cleaning clean things. In my mind empty bins, empty sink, a load of washing, a clean toilet and a general tidy is enough day to day! I would perhaps add in a floor sweep if you have a crumb leaving toddler but that's it!

acquiescence · 12/03/2021 18:39

You don’t mention floors? Do you vacuum and mop/scrub hard floors between?

Sounds fine. With small children and no cleaner bathrooms are only cleaned once a fortnight and the rest on a very ad hoc basis. Kitchen floor is every day and vacuuming carpets 2-3 times a week. I leave sheets longer than 2 weeks sometimes, I know this goes against the mumsnet grain.

I think as long as you are comfortable it’s fine.

savvy7 · 12/03/2021 18:43

Everyone has different standards/habits. I have a dog so my floors downstairs are hoovered/mopped most days but the bedding is changed once a fortnight.

If you're happy with it, then it's OK.

BrilliantBetty · 12/03/2021 19:44

Yes sounds absolutely fine.

WombatChocolate · 12/03/2021 19:54

Totally your choice.

I don't have a cleaner. However, I confess to washing the floors less frequently than you, but I do hoover them every week.

I rarely dust but would clean the bathroom every week.

I change beds fortnightly. Lots of people prefer it every week or 10 days but fortnightly strikes me as okay and it's personal preference.

It's your own tolerance level.....if you don't feel it's dirty and don't need to clean before the cleaner reappears, then you've got it about right.

You're cleaning the loo and wiping down the kitchen....not doing those would obviously be grim, so sounds fine to me.

A lot of this depends on your household too. Some larger families make more dirt and mess, not surprisingly. Animals make more dirt and mess. Some people just create lots of diet and others don't seem to.

So what feels right for you....I'm sure your house is cleaner than mine.

Paul72 · 12/03/2021 19:54

Our cleaners come every four seeks and we keep the place sort of clean in between. We have talked about changing to every two weeks though

Chunkymenrock · 12/03/2021 19:57

Sounds great to me. Perfectly fine.

Cbeebiesischeesy · 12/03/2021 20:02

@PlanDeRaccordement They do clean all of the fridge, the drawers and clean the carpet (carpet shampoo and hoover etc) the curtains I wash, walls in bathroom they do when doing the bathroom, so it’s a really thorough clean

OP posts:
Cbeebiesischeesy · 12/03/2021 20:04

@acquiescence That’s the issue really, it’s the floors I think I should really Hoover and mop in between, they’re tiled (we’re in another country)

OP posts:
WombatChocolate · 12/03/2021 20:08

I don't clean my fridge every fortnight and to be honest never shampoo the carpets or wash the curtains.

It does sound very thorough.

I couldn't manage 2 weeks without hoovering though, but it doesn't mean you can't.

Cbeebiesischeesy · 12/03/2021 20:12

@WombatChocolate The curtains is very rare 🙈a spray on shampoo on the carpet then hoover.
Yeah, I think it’s def the hoovering and mopping I should really do 🙄 I also find it gets dusty oh dining table and television cabinet quickly too 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/03/2021 20:12

That sounds fine to me, I'd just add jet-washing the toddler each week (in the garden). Wink
