Is this dirty?

I have cleaners come every forthright. They basically do a deep clean of the whole house-hoover, mop, kitchen, all bathrooms, all bedrooms, all polishing downstairs etc, plus the upstairs banging and terrace at the front. Plus change beds and clean oven and fridge, clean windows.
In-between this I keep it tidy (toddler, so it’s tricky!) clean and bleach toilets and obviously keep kitchen clean, wash dishes after use.
Am I doing enough or is this unacceptable? I’d ideally love them to do this every week not fortnight, but it’s pricey and they’re busy with other clients.

Plus the patio doors get messy quickly, it’s probably having a toddler and dog can’t help! Would so love them to come a couple of times per week 🤣

I would need to dust and hoover once in between their visit but that’s because I live in city centre.
I change sheets weekly.
I’ll bet your house is far cleaner than mine - some of your list I get to every few months or so.

Meredithgrey1 · 12/03/2021 20:17

With my toddler I couldn’t go two weeks without hoovering, I swear she produces crumbs. But I do give the floor a quick wipe with a cloth after meals where she’s dropped stuff, so I could do two weeks without mopping.

The rest sounds fine I think.

ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 12/03/2021 20:18

I deep clean every week. It doesn't need it but I just do it. I clean pretty much everyday just the basics like hoovering, kitchen etc.
But everyone is different so if it works for you then that's all that matters.

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 12/03/2021 20:18

It’s far more cleaning than we manage with 2 full time jobs, three young kids, a dog and no cleaner 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thatwentbadly · 12/03/2021 20:21
@WombatChocolate The curtains is very rare 🙈a spray on shampoo on the carpet then hoover.
Yeah, I think it’s def the hoovering and mopping I should really do 🙄 I also find it gets dusty oh dining table and television cabinet quickly too 🤷🏻‍♀️
Get a robot hoover.

Thelnebriati · 12/03/2021 20:22

I used to clean and you sound like a good client because you tidy for the cleaners. Moving things to clean is a faff and slows you down so much it makes you look like a slow worker.
I'm sure if they weren't happy with the arrangement they would say something.

WhereTheWildlingsLive · 12/03/2021 20:22

It sounds enough to me - just enough before it gets too disgusting! 😁

How long do they do/how much does it cost per visit? This is something I would love!!

Cbeebiesischeesy · 12/03/2021 20:24

@TheOneWithTheBigNose That’s the thing, when we both worked full time and we’re all out of the house, it was so clean. Now I’m there with toddler Dd and dog all day, it’s a mess

partyatthepalace · 12/03/2021 20:25

It sounds completely normal to me.

And if it’s works for you it’s acceptable.

Sadly we’re not out of the house... both working full time from home, plus had the 3 DC at home with us for the past 3 months!

DuggeeHugPlease · 12/03/2021 20:28

Sounds fine to me. I have to hoover every other day because I have a cat and a preschooler but the mopping and dusting often falls by the wayside.

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2021 20:28

Op I know. One thing I am hugely looking forward to is the ability to leave home (fairly tidy and clean) in the morning and not return for perhaps 10-12 hours and it all just look the same.
I am so sick and tired of every time I move or eat or do anything I create dishes and recycling and rubbish and mess and it goes on and on all day every day.

Whiskeyontherocks · 12/03/2021 20:29

How on earth can anyone tell you what's acceptable in your own house?. If you think it needs more doing in between then do it, if not leave it as it is. Jeez

Bluntness100 · 12/03/2021 20:29

Everyone has their own levels of hygiene. For me also, particularly with a small child and a dog, I’d not go two weeks without hoovering and cleaning the floors.

But it’s down to the individual, some folks don’t change their beds for months, seldom hoover, seldom mop, sand believe cleaning the carpets is not something that normal folks do.🤷‍♀️

FolkyFoxFace · 12/03/2021 20:32

It's down to you, really. I'm not a clean freak by a long shot, but I couldn't go two weeks without hoovering/brushing/mopping. I like dusting and polishing, too - those things keep the place feeling fresh in my mind. I change the sheets every week, too.

EileenGC · 12/03/2021 20:38

If you're happy with that, it really sounds fine. Every person has different standards and needs.

I don't clean my oven, fridge or windows fortnightly, it's more like every 6 months. But I don't use my oven much and any spillage in the fridge gets cleaned immediately.

I can also go 4-6 weeks without changing my bedding, it's still clean at the end of the 6 weeks regardless of what Mumsnet could say about it. Towels on the other hand I wash every 10-14 days or so.

However, I hoover twice a week and mop every week. I also dust weekly and the bathroom gets cleaned 2-3 times a week. Couldn't do it less often than that.

KitesFlyingInTheWind · 12/03/2021 20:44

It's fine if you are happy.
I personally change sheets every week, but in this weather every fortnight I would be OK with!

Bid876 · 12/03/2021 20:46

Look at it this way, if the cleaners weren’t doing all these jobs, how often do you think you would realistically do all these on top of what ever else your doing?

PattyPan · 12/03/2021 20:53

If it looks dirty, clean it - I don't think you need to subscribe to specific rules about how often to clean everything. If it doesn't look dirty then it's probably fine!
That said, I change my sheets weekly otherwise it smells (DP sweats a lot in the night!). You said you keep on top of the kitchen so I assume you're wiping the counters/hob regularly, the only other things I think would need doing more regularly than fortnightly would be wiping the sink (mine seems to get really dusty) and hoovering under the table if your toddler makes a lot of crumbs/mopping if you can see muddy dog prints everywhere.

Babygotblueyes · 12/03/2021 21:00

If I was having a deep clean every few weeks I wouldnt do much in between except tidy and clean obvious dirt, like you are doing. I do change my beds weekly though.

JanetHandjob · 12/03/2021 21:01

OP, you sound to me as if you are a bit of an obsessive cleaner by my standards, if that's any consolation.

JanetHandjob · 12/03/2021 21:02

Those of you who change bedding weekly: how can you be bothered to do the ironing that is involved in bedding-changes? I can cope with that every 2-3 weeks, but not every bloody week.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 12/03/2021 21:02

Well, this thread shows it's so individual!

I change our bed sheets fortnightly but in summer sometimes more often. I couldn't leave it 4-6 weeks as they definitely wouldn't smell fresh. Towels also are once a week because they're going near bodily orifices and it doesn' tmatter if they've just been washed, there are mucous membranes in mouth, nose, privates, also possibly bits of toothpaste after you've cleaned your teeth etc etc.

However, the dust in my house is awful but I just can't get agitated enough about it to dust more often as it's such a groundhog day job. I just don't care about it enough. I don't really care enough about a few crumbs on the floor as they reappear 24 hours after you've got rid of them. and it's so tedious....whereas I have friends who were brought up to mop their kitchen floors daily and think it's really slovenly if you don't. I don't see why really, I haven't got any babies crawling there, we wear slippers in the house so a few crumbs building up between hoovers/mops doesn't really bother me too much.

So it depends on which aspects of it bother you.

Gwenhwyfar · 12/03/2021 21:02

The oven, fridge and windows need to be cleaned every other week? That's a lot!
I haven't cleaned my windows for 6 months and they're only now looking like they need another clean.
