Is this dirty?

I have cleaners come every forthright. They basically do a deep clean of the whole house-hoover, mop, kitchen, all bathrooms, all bedrooms, all polishing downstairs etc, plus the upstairs banging and terrace at the front. Plus change beds and clean oven and fridge, clean windows.
In-between this I keep it tidy (toddler, so it’s tricky!) clean and bleach toilets and obviously keep kitchen clean, wash dishes after use.
Am I doing enough or is this unacceptable? I’d ideally love them to do this every week not fortnight, but it’s pricey and they’re busy with other clients.

It’s perfectly fine!

I change my bed... occasionally. Just too tired and busy. My kids’ beds get done occasionally too 😂

I’m sure your house is MUCH cleaner than ours! No, I wouldn’t clean floors in between unless needed.

JanetHandjob · 12/03/2021 21:03

And what are people mopping?

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 12/03/2021 21:04

Having reread it, there are some things I do far more often than you (hoover, mop, change bedding etc) and some i do far less (cleaning windows and oven, for example).

EileenGC · 12/03/2021 21:04

@JanetHandjob

And what are people mopping?
Their houses’ non-carpeted, non-wooden floors.

The floor?

Those of you who change bedding weekly: how can you be bothered to do the ironing that is involved in bedding-changes? I can cope with that every 2-3 weeks, but not every bloody week.

Ironing bedding? Who the hell wastes time doing that? I'm a house proud neat freak and I've never ironed my sheets. Take them out of the dryer promptly, fold, and they're fine.

Macncheeseballs · 12/03/2021 21:05

I forget to change the sheets sometimes but I'm not sure my DH has ever changed the sheets of his own accord, why is is it nearly always women? (Assuming all the punctual sheet changers on here are women!)

I change my bedding weekly. I don’t iron it.

This just shows how very different we all are. I absolutely can't be arsed about cleaning, but I couldn't sleep in unironed bedding. Grin

Thanks for the mopping clarification, @TheOneWithTheBigNose and @EileenGC . I have 200 yr old floorboards which wouldn't take kindly to a mop. I do hoover them if I am expecting visitors, though.

What’s ironing? Do you seriously iron your bed linen?
JanetHandjob · 12/03/2021 21:09

Am also going to slink away as I last cleaned the inside of my Aga about 5 years ago.

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 12/03/2021 21:09

I have tiles in the kitchen, utility room and bathrooms. They’re the rooms I mop.

JanetHandjob · 12/03/2021 21:10

Or will slink, once I have answered @Alsohuman Grin

Yes I jolly well do. I couldn't sleep in crumpled bed linen. Everything else may be all doggy and dusty and whatnot, but no, no, no to unironed bedding.

dementedma · 12/03/2021 21:11

Bloody hell. Fortnightly fridge cleans, walls and skirting boards washed, carpets shampooed. Be lucky if these got done twice a year here! ( ok, the fridge a bit more often. Maybe).

How does your bed linen get so crumpled? Confused

Doesn’t it crumple when you sleep in it? I take mine out of the tumble dryer and fold straight away. It isn’t particularly crumpled.

That's probably more recent than our fridge has been cleaned. I think our kitchen floor has been mopped twice in about 5 years and it doesn't even look dirty.

Can't believe that people do these things weekly, or even more often. As for ironing bedding, that's mad. Just why?

EileenGC · 12/03/2021 21:14

No carpets where I come from (Spain) and it was one of my favourite chores as a child, to mop the whole 4 bedroom flat. Rarely allowed to do so, as my mum couldn’t stand how slowly I did it compared to her Grin When I moved to the UK I was really disappointed to find out I wouldn’t be mopping the whole house weekly.

I also like to iron my bedding. I don’t have a dryer or big enough airers for a double duvet cover to be spread out and dry nicely and crease-free. I cannot put creased bedding on my bed. It takes 5 mins to iron and the satisfaction after doing it is immense.

HoppingPavlova · 12/03/2021 21:15

Why do you need other people's acceptance of your personal choices?

This. Blows my mind and I always wonder whether these things are actually humble brags as otherwise why go on the internet and ask a bunch of ransoms to endorse your choices?

As a species we are fairly immune to dirt.

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2021 21:20

eileen expert ironer there. It would take me longer. I am so very out of practice though - I think I have ironed twice since March 16th 2020. Literally twice. What a remarkable turn of events eh ?

JanetHandjob · 12/03/2021 21:21

@EileenGC Quite. I don't have a tumble dryer, so king sized bedding has to dry on a small rack in a small house. There's no way it can be anything other than a bit crumply.

@TheOneWithTheBigNose I sleep very quietly and don't rummage around in my bed. Fortunately I am not sharing with a man, which might make things a bit different and more sweaty.

Ah well mine is folded straight out of the tumble dryer and isn’t crumpled. So no need to iron. MIL irons all bedding and there is no discernible difference between my tumble dried and folded bedding and her air dried and ironed bedding.

FolkyFoxFace · 12/03/2021 21:24

I don't iron my bed sheets either! That said, I don't actually iron anything...out of the machine and hung up to dry! No wrinkles! My late father would have kittens. He even ironed his socks.

Dahlietta · 12/03/2021 21:25

This thread is a lot less interesting than I had hoped from the title.
