To think my gander should not come into my house.

We have a half dozen geese, one of them a gander. The other afternoon I heard honking close by and investigated to find our gander in our entryway honking for dinner for him and his harem. Obviously, he was sent as spokesgoose.

Spokesgoose Grin

ValidUser · 08/03/2021 19:48

He probably just wanted to have a gander

MrTumbleTumble · 08/03/2021 19:48

I read this as gardener at first and wondered what the bloody hell the geese had to do with it Grin

UhtredRagnarson · 08/03/2021 19:51

Well the rhyme does suggest that they wander, doesn’t it? Grin

You’ll find him in your lady’s chamber soon Wink

RagzReturnsRebooted · 08/03/2021 19:51

YABU, the gander is in charge and you are merely his servant.

inmyslippers · 08/03/2021 19:53

He's training you

HTH1 · 08/03/2021 19:55

You need to watch this situation. I predict that, in a few weeks, gander and harem will be living in the house and it will be you creeping round the garden scavenging for food.

DuckonaBike · 08/03/2021 19:55

Had you been offering sauce to the geese?

I thought that gander was a mistype for gardener!
Happycat1212 · 08/03/2021 19:58

I also thought you meant gardener lol

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 08/03/2021 20:00

I misread it as gender and thought it was an FWR thread 🤭

HallowedGround · 08/03/2021 20:02

My grandmother would slap two flyswatters together to train her geese. They are really quite smart and knew the different rhythms of the flyswatters meant different things. Your gander is trying to train you so my suggestion is to loudly clap at him and show who's boss.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/03/2021 20:02

Why no photographs? Sad

backinthebox · 08/03/2021 20:03

I had a lovely gander once, but he lost interest in his wives and fell in love with me. This was amusing to start with, less so when he started trying to creep up on me and hump my leg every time I was sat down, and defended me from everything, including my children, the horses, my husband, chickens, the postman - anything that came onto the property! Eventually we rehomed him with lots more geese at a petting farm, where they are delighted at how friendly he is, and apparently he and his original wife have produced their first gosling after he began to take notice of her again.

Christmasbird · 08/03/2021 20:04

Wanted a propaganda Grin

backinthebox · 08/03/2021 20:05

This is my old chap.

To think my gander should not come into my house.
backinthebox · 08/03/2021 20:06

Btw, my FIL let mine into my house once, and I found them all sitting on the sofa watching TV. We had to keep the doors closed after that!

HallowedGround · 08/03/2021 20:07

Oh he's a beaut.

😂

How did they get the TV on?

Dimsummummy · 08/03/2021 20:10

What’s good for the goose.....

I’ll get my coat 😂

Reinventinganna · 08/03/2021 20:12

You both need to discuss this over a pot of tea. Maybe you could come to a compromise?

Blancah · 08/03/2021 20:15

I'm jealous, if my gander found his way into my personal space he's likely to go straight for my throat or my crotch, possibly trying to kneecap me at the same time.

TaraR2020 · 08/03/2021 20:15

Yes, I think you and spokesgoose need to hold a summit to come to terms about feeding times and access to the house.

He sounds like a tough negotiator.

WomenAreBornNotWorn · 08/03/2021 20:18

My mum used to feed some Canada geese, they took to tapping the back door with their beaks for food. Brilliant things animals.

MrsWP · 08/03/2021 20:23

Now I want geese!! How lovely.
