To think my gander should not come into my house.

We have a half dozen geese, one of them a gander. The other afternoon I heard honking close by and investigated to find our gander in our entryway honking for dinner for him and his harem. Obviously, he was sent as spokesgoose.

@wellthatsunusual

My dad always told me that when he was a little boy, his uncle had a goose on his farm that was basically a guard dog. Well, a guard goose. Could it be true, or was he teasing me? He said it was very territorial and would chase you out of the farm yard if it didn't know you or didn't like you. I so want it to be true...
The Romans used geese for the same reason people use guard dogs today.

He would defend me by standing up as tall as he could and putting his wings out, throwing his head back and honking like mad. Or he might put his head down low and neck stretched out and hissing. He was definitely the spokesgoose of the group. My postman tells me he’d rather take on an angry dog than an angry goose. He runs up and down people’s driveways to deliver mail, and my goose used to run after him screaming. We also had delivery men like Hermes or Amazon drivers who wouldn’t get out of their van and would telephone instead! 🤣🤣 He never actually pecked anyone, but no one ever let him try.

My mum has a chicken that constantly comes in the window. She’s given up chucking her out now 😂
@Tinkerbell456, I don't have any tips but I will ask my 82yr mum, a few weeks ago while on zoom, she told us, with no connection to the conversation being had that she 'could beat up a goose anytime'!

She now refuses to explain her comment.
The visual images I'm getting here are brilliant Grin

I inherited two geese from a friend - one extremely elderly blind goose who merrily wanders around the stables looking vaguely baffled and a brain-damaged Canadian goose. I had to put a rather embarrassing post on the local Facebook page asking for sightings of the Canadian as she decided she could fly. I did eventually retrieve her (and promptly clipped her wings).

My hens come inside and my freeloading slacker of a cat lets them.

Canadian geese scare me senseless, I avoid the lake at my local park because of this.

TheNestedIf · 10/03/2021 05:47

Ha! I was wondering the same as @EntropyBanana . You should make him go back out. Small children won't chase themselves into phone boxes, you know.

FunTimes2020 · 10/03/2021 15:54

Hopefully he won't kick off if he's gander neutral Grin
