To get up at 530 to exercise?

This would be half an hour before DS gets up so not much difference. I don't find it easy to find time to exercise and I'm really struggling with the lockdown weight.

AIBU to think getting up at 530 to exercise is a good idea?

YABU - you are demented. Why even consider such a thing
YANBU - that's a great use of time!

I do it sometimes, not through lockdown as I’ve had no commute but I will be back to my ultra early starts soon! I used to get up earlier than that, about 5am. It’s so hard but you feel so smug when it’s done! Do it!

Thehop · 07/03/2021 19:02

I’m actually debating this myself

GrallaceandWomit · 07/03/2021 19:02

I think you should bear in mind losing weight is 80% diet 20% exercise. However, exercise is great for toning up and making you feel better and you’re more likely to stick to an exercise routine in the morning rather than after a long day at work/at home with a young child because there is less time for excuses. Sleep is important for losing weight so make sure you’re still getting enough sleep.

StillUpholding · 07/03/2021 19:05

I do it at 5:15 a few times a week at as I leave for work at 6:30 and like to see DD before I go (she wakes about 6). Either a run (in the summer), yoga or some sort of workout. It’s fine. Hard to motivate myself some days and I don’t beat myself up if I choose to have a bit longer in bed now and then, but I never regret doing it.

orangejuicer · 07/03/2021 19:05

Hi Grallace yes absolutely I know I need to focus on food but I am unfit too so need the exercise and doing it in the morning probably would make me more likely to stick to it.

Getting enough sleep is another matter entirely! DS is almost 2.5 and has never really slept through but this has got better since he moved to his bed so fingers crossed. It wouldn't be every day but I think maybe 3 times a week would be a start.

What exercise are you planning that you can't do during the day?

Yesreallyreally · 07/03/2021 19:08

Everyone I know who has a good routine of exercise and good attitude to health and well-being does this. Gets exercise in before they start their day... hope someone (millions) comes on to say it’s rubbish..... Grin

Averyslover · 07/03/2021 19:08

Really interested in this and thinking of doing it myself. If you do it, what time do you go to bed?

speakout · 07/03/2021 19:09

I set my alarm for 6am every morning to exercise.

araiwa · 07/03/2021 19:10

9pm bed for a 5am start

I’ve started doing this but 6 not 5.

generalexpert · 07/03/2021 19:14

Been getting up for a 5AM run for the last 15years. Once you get used to it, it's quite easy.

BlusteryLake · 07/03/2021 19:14

I get up at 6am to exercise five days a week. It's the only way to make sure it happens.

bjjgirl · 07/03/2021 19:16

I do this 3 times a week, go for it

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/03/2021 19:16

Couldn’t do this in a month of Sundays. Would rather exercise late at night tbh!

Twickerhun · 07/03/2021 19:17

I’ve done this the last couple of weekends. Felt very virtuous to go out at 6. Set me up well for the day but I was exhausted by 9pm

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 07/03/2021 19:17

Mainly my best time fo exercise is in my lunchtime when kids are at school.

Reinventinganna · 07/03/2021 19:17

I get up for 05:00 for work and I’m in bed by 22:00. It’s quite nice being awake while the rest of the world sleeps.

violetbunny · 07/03/2021 19:17

I started doing this a few years ago. I've kept it up and it's been game changing for me. It's hard for the first month, then becomes habit so stick with it!!!

sausagerollcake · 07/03/2021 19:18

YANBU I used to get up at 5.30 to ride my horse before work.

Cas112 · 07/03/2021 19:18

I always went gym after work until my boyfriend asked me to work out in the morning just once before work to try it and I have to say it’s the best thing I ever did. You have so much more energy in the day and you don’t spend the day thinking about whether you can be bothered to work out, it’s already done and out the way and i really don’t mind getting up that little bit earlier, it’s a change I never knew I would like so much! I really recommend morning work outs now, I really do!

HelloThereMeHearties · 07/03/2021 19:18

If you want to do it, do it! Loads of highly successful people (and normies Smile) get up early to start their day.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 07/03/2021 19:19

In the lighter months and in dry days I go for a 5km walk between 5.45-6.45am then I'm home to have a shower, do breakfasts and lunches before everyone goes to work/school.
I do go to bed early to make up for it though.
