Put a clean set of bedding on the bed this morning before I left for work. Came home to find my cat had puked a hairball up all over it so had to strip the lot off, including the quilt. Quilt had been in the dryer for almost three hours and still isn't dry and none of my bedding is dry either. So now rather than doing what I'd planned, I'm stuck trying to get some bedding dry so I can actually get to bed at a reasonable time tonight. Fed up and honestly not sure what else to try with my cat (she is on special hairball food, gets malt paste, gets brushed as much as she'll let me)

I have horrible period pains too and really wanted to lie down with a hot water bottle for a bit which isn't helping!

Do you have spare bedding or only one set?

Tini17 · 06/03/2021 20:06

Use the spare set of bedding?
And why can’t you lie down?

TakeTheCuntOutOfScunthorpe · 06/03/2021 20:07

Could you put the cat outside during the day? Or at the least, shut the bedroom door so they can't get in. Might just move the problem elsewhere of course!

In the short term, a thick layer of jumpers, coats and towels makes a tolerable substitute for bedding. Ideally towels directly under and above you, then coats etc piled on top.

WorraLiberty · 06/03/2021 20:08

Sounds tough OP

Might be the kick you need though to order a cheap duvet from Amazon/Argos to keep as a spare.

RJnomore1 · 06/03/2021 20:08

Get the hot water bottle and a blanket and lie on the couch while the quilt keeps going on the drier.

Yanbu btw 🍫

QuestionableMouse · 06/03/2021 20:09

Two sets of bedding, both wet (I chucked the dirty lot in the wash while I was at work)

I could lie down but the house has a weird layout and my bedroom is up two flights of stairs from the kitchen and I don't feel like running up and down to check on drying progress.

Ah Bastard Cat.

I sacrificed my gym top the other day to save my sofa bed from upcoming puke/hairball 🤮

vodkaredbullgirl · 06/03/2021 20:10

Hot water bottle, pjs, dressing gown and blanket on the sofa.

CyberdyneSystems · 06/03/2021 20:10

I've had this many times. We try to close the doors but occasionally forget

TheEasterBunnies · 06/03/2021 20:10

OP obviously has two sets but she put the clean set on this morning so the other set was obviously the dirty set she stripped off this morning. And now the clean ones are dirty too. Including the duvet.

Crappyfridays7 · 06/03/2021 20:11

Brolly sheets do a big sheet you can pop over your covers - waterproof
I have loads of stuff from them for my son. And I also have an elderly cat who is hairball prone but also randomly pees on my bed.
Saves the bed. But I’d also get a cheap spare set of covers. Rubbish op hope everything is dry soon and you can relax CakeFlowers

Sunnyday321 · 06/03/2021 20:11

Mine coughed up a hairball at 4am this morning ( loudly )

Lonecatwithkitten · 06/03/2021 20:11

I have an old duvet cover that I place over the top of nice duvet to catch and absorb the vomit sessions.

user1493494961 · 06/03/2021 20:11

Shut the bedroom door.

Watto1 · 06/03/2021 20:12

Have you got a sleeping bag you could use for tonight?

justthecat · 06/03/2021 20:12

Cats only ever throw up on clean bedding, mine did it the other day, then proceeded to take herself to her own bed 😼

mainsfed · 06/03/2021 20:13

YANBU, it’s Sod’s law they other set was in the wash too.

Is your duvet soft and clean? I’ve sleep in just a mattress protector and duvet with cover before, it’s actually fine once you get in to bed.

Can you keep bedroom door closed so cat can’t go in there again?

mainsfed · 06/03/2021 20:14

*duvet with no cover

TheGriffle · 06/03/2021 20:15

Cats are bastards! Can you snuggle up on the sofa while your bedding dries?

QuestionableMouse · 06/03/2021 20:21

Quilt (duvet) is currently in the dryer. I do have a spare but it's only a single summer weight one. Annoyingly I gave my sister my spare ten tog double a couple of days ago because I never used it.

I do usually close the door but she can open them so it's not much help.

Will look into those waterproof sheets!

We have throws on top of all our beds to save them from puke and the fur/fluff.

WorraLiberty · 06/03/2021 20:28

Get a hook and eye latch for the outside of your door to stop the cat getting in.

Amazon sell them for £1.99

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 06/03/2021 20:31

My cat saves her hairballs for when I have zoom meetings mostly - but at least she does them on the wooden floor.

How far away is your sister - could you borrow it back?

DynamoKev · 06/03/2021 20:32

YABU this is what cats do.

QuestionableMouse · 06/03/2021 20:32

I've probably got one in my junk drawer to be honest.

It's not something I ever expected to happen so never really planned for it.
