Why has ASMR turned so sexual?

ASMR is basically bain tingles when someone is doing something i.e reading a book, page turning, brushing hair, whispering etc.

However, i've noticed a lot of videos have sexual undertones these days.

Take this one for example;

It's a girl doing 'ear licking sounds' and it's basically her giving a bj to the mic.
And then she goes "go to myonlyfans account to see the no hand version.
Like what?? People would pay to watch a woman give a bj to a microphone??

That video just cringed me out

Thankfully I mostly like unintentional ASMR so it's not an issue, but I have to stick to certain people (mostly SouthernASMR Sounds and GentleWhispering) to avoid the creepy stuff.

Yes! This! For a while I thought I was just being an old grumpy feminist but who on earth is the target audience of some of this (I suspect I know but am in denial).

It's always been like that, with a minority of creators making it into a sexual thing. Now it's more popular there are a lot more creators, so the numbers in that minority are still huge.

I was on YouTube recently when an ASMRtist I follow did went on live. I started watching and the chat was gross, men treating like her like a cam girl... but she responded and smiled and said how much she loved their comments. Can't really blame her as the worst perv donated about $60 in the three minutes I was there. He rewarded her with a donation whenever she did something he asked.

I’ve noticed this too. So much of the newer stuff is extremely sexual, even if it’s not a remotely sexual subject.

I just tend to watch the same few older videos now.

I just can't imagine how someone would love the concept of a woman giving a mic a bj though?
I don't get it when there's loads of free porn on the internet

I know it's so annoying. They get loads of likes though so more people copy them.

I like Gentle Whispering too and Sophie Michelle.

The sexual stuff is so annoying, I hate it.

I stick to Gentle Whispering, Goodnight Moon and ASMR Darling, though ASMR Bakery and Made In France are good too

Ugh, it sucks (if you'll excuse the unfortunate phrasing). But has been going on for a long time now as previous poster said.

Yes, it can be very relaxing - it doesn’t have an effect on everyone though, unfortunately for you!

I haven't seen much of this as I tend to stick to asmr artists I know. Asmr darling is my favourite. I like gentle whispering and tingting asmr. Madeleine Petsch does some asmr videos but they're not "proper" asmr more a celeb trying asmr but I like watching her.

It's who I fall asleep after a stressful days. It turns off all those whirring brain thoughts which stop me sleeping. It like a soothing massage for the brain

It's one of those things that it suits some people but not everyone. And then what makes one person "tingle" doesn't necessarily make another person tingle

I always thought it was sexual, sorry, interesting to know it's not.

I absolutely hate it tbh, I wish I could mute people in real life.

I think ASMRDarling can be just as bad sometimes! I feel uncomfortable watching hers because I feel like they’re made for men.

I like the ASMRBakery ones where it’s just things like foam being cut up drools

I love ASMR. Some of the smaller channels are better, Leah Whispers, Behind the Moons, ASMR Lotus. I just avoid the ones where they have their boobs hanging out.

I didn't know this was a thing but as one of DC's school projects they had to make a flip book and school sent a youtube tutorial that had no voiceover, only the sounds of paper being folded, scissors cutting, etc. It was very relaxing and comforting!

This is my favourite type - nobody speaking, just deliberate precise actions and nice paper or clicky sounds (people building mechanical keyboards with no talking gets me to sleep in about 10 minutes!)

Whispers red and gibi are absolutely phenomenal and there is no microphone bj.

Asmrrequests was brilliant too but she stopped post in about 2018 after her brother died and it was so sad.

I love Decocookie and similar. Just awesome cooking sounds, recipes, lovely visuals and just generally wholesome. Nothing sexual at all.

I love asmr. It’s so relaxing and a great way to fall asleep.
