My nephew lost control of his R/C car and it went into the road. A few seconds later a woman in a Discovery ran right over it but apparently without batting an eyelid. She didn't slow down or stop either before or after. It was like she'd just flattened it in passing. Then the acknowledgement came. A couple of minutes later she pulled up outside the drive, wound down her window, and asked him the most incredible question. "Did you enjoy that?" She was furious, and rude, and he was in tears. That seemed to give her an answer but all she did then was drive off again. No apology, nothing. AIBU to expect better?

Perhaps she was looking at the road, like drivers are supposed to, and didn't see a piddly little car go into the road.

I wouldn't apologise either for someone else's child losing control of their toy car so it went onto a public highway. I'd be more worried about my own car being damaged.

She shouldn't have been rude but he really shouldn't be playing with it near a road if he can't control it (or future cars).

I think your nephew should be apologising. Whoever was in control of the child should not have had him use it on a road. He could have caused a very nasty accident. Not his fault if he is young, but the adult's he was with. A road is not a place for toys.

It sounds like you lost control of your nephew.

Who was supervising him? What would have happened if he’d dashed into the road to retrieve it, or a ball, or any other toy?

Yes, letting it go in the road is not idea but any adult reducing a kid to tears in that way is a prize cunt.

Depends on the R/C car, my son has some absolute beasts of R/C cars.

Perhaps the adults should be blamed for the years, for allowing him to do something so stupid and then expect an apology from someone who wasn't the least bit to blame?

She was probably a bit shaken. Nobody wants to flatten a childs toy but driving is a serious business and nobody drives aling looking out for remote control cars.

How old is your nephew. I think that makes a difference. Although I think it was bloody mean at any age, what a weird thing to say as well. I can understand not apologising but to sneer like that is just awful.

Anything going out into the road at the last second is incredibly dangerous. I'm sure it was upsetting for your nephew but equally the driver can't swerve out of the road or emergency stop for a toy car!

Your nephew needs to be taught not to play near the road, be lucky it is just the car.

It sounds like emotions were high and the woman wasn't overly nice about it, but then again i'm sure she was shaken up too thinking how close she was to potentially hitting a child if he ran out for his toy.

You/your nephew should have apologised to the driver for potentially causing a serious accident. Remote control cars should not be anywhere near a road. I doubt the driver saw it until it was too late.

Yeah... but she didn't.

Shouting at a kid to the point of tears over an accident is not a justifiable response. Sure, have a word with the supervising adult but to direct that anger at a child is not on.

That's what I thought. He made a mistake and his car went in the road and the way it looked she just basically drove right over it. Even if she saw it late she could have been a bit nicer.

What your nephew did was dangerous. It probably made a horrendous noise when she drove over it, and I imagine that she was more than a little rattled, when people are rattled, they're often not polite.

In future, make sure your nephew plays away from the road and be thankful it was t a worse outcome.

What a nasty woman. Regardless of who should have been supervising the child he won’t have done it on purpose and he saw his toy being destroyed. She didn’t have to do anything, she could have kept on driving and said nothing but she went out of her way to come back and be nasty to him. Horrible person.

If I was the driver, I'd of been raging too. A child easily could have followed the RC car. It could have been far worse than just the RC being flattened!
It also could have damaged tyres, caused her to swerve or anything.
The child shouldn't have been playing close enough to a road for that to happen.
