Apologies for posting on AIBU but I wanted to use the voting function

If you got COVID, had you been breaking the rules before you caught it?

No need to comment if you dont wish to, just interested in the numbers

YABU I had broken the rules
YANBU I hadn't broken the rules

Which voting option is which.

FenceSplinters · 21/02/2021 14:36

I had been following the rules when I got it. I’m not sure which way you want me to vote.

MrBloomsLeftVeg · 21/02/2021 14:38

Husband caught it following rules strictly

Athinginitself · 21/02/2021 14:47

Nope. DP just got it, not broken any rules the whole time. I got it right at the beginning so there weren't really any restrictions anyway but was being relatively cautious by that point.

Nnameechanged · 21/02/2021 14:48

Not sure which is which to vote, but I had it and we have all followed the rules and then some - didn't mix at Christmas, barely did socially-distanced meet-ups when it was allowed, etc. Partner caught it through work (can't work from home).

HornedBeefCash · 21/02/2021 14:54

Followed the rules. Think I caught it off secondary age DS in October.

AlrightTreacle · 21/02/2021 15:01

I know a lot of people who followed the rules and caught covid early on. I work in healthcare, and at first Public Health England told us we didn't need masks at all, then that we only needed them while looking after patients with confirmed covid, so it was hardly surprising that about 50% of my colleagues tested positive for the antibodies when we were tested in July.

middleager · 21/02/2021 15:04

DS caught it from a secondary school with high cases. He followed the rules set in schools, where no masks and no social distancing is the norm because apparently, schools and children are low risk if you believe the lies.

We both Wfh and shop online and hadn't left the house except to drive DC to school.

NewScone · 21/02/2021 15:05

How are people voting!?

FreeChuro · 21/02/2021 15:05

I followed all the rules and caught it, but I'm a nursery teacher

Lindy2 · 21/02/2021 15:05

I caught Covid in January. I caught it from my DH who works in a prison.

Despite meticulous mask wearing and distancing at work, once the virus got into his workplace there was no escaping it. It's not a job that can be done from home.

We've followed all the rules and actually been more cautious than the rules at times when restrictions have been relaxed. I do feel it's very unfair that we ended up suffering from this virus when I know quite a few people who have not been nearly as cautious as us. However, there's no point dwelling on it and I am just very relieved we recovered ok.

It does upset me that some people may think we caught it because we weren't being careful, but luckily those that actually know us know what DH does for a job.

bloodyhairy · 21/02/2021 15:06

I got it and had been absolutely following the rules.
It happens, I guess.

FourOnTheHill · 21/02/2021 15:08

There weren’t any rules when I caught it nearly a year ago

popsly · 21/02/2021 15:08

Got it when I was following the rules.

cardibach · 21/02/2021 15:09

You say you want to use the voting function, but it’s impossible to vote as you haven’t asked an AIBU question...

Homemadearmy · 21/02/2021 15:14

I caught it in January when following the rules. I WFH, the children aren't mixing outside the house. No idea how I picked it up, I shop once a week. The only thing we did different in the run up to catching it was have a takeaway delivered.
There is a stigma about catching it, my oldest son's friend caught it back in August when there were less restrictions and the abuse he had after informing people was awful

AmyandPhilipfan · 21/02/2021 15:14

The two people I know who currently have it caught it from their kids who are still attending nursery school, which is allowed.

Someone my mum knows had it before Christmas and thinks she caught it when her Son in law visited to do a plumbing job, which was technically within the rules as he was there as a workman, but I’m sure he stayed for a cup of tea and a chat. He tested positive a couple of days later and then she went on to develop it also. Fortunately she got over it after a couple of weeks (in her 70s).

Another friend of my mum’s caught it after spending Christmas with her daughter. This was allowed as it was just two households mixing but in hindsight wasn’t a good idea as she sadly died from it.

QuornSausagesAreTheDevilsPenis · 21/02/2021 15:15

I got it before there were rules. Was told we (me and dc) couldn't have it because we hadn't been abroad Hmm

Ladylimpet · 21/02/2021 15:17

I caught it from colleagues at work. Following the rules as much as you can when working. All the people I know who are flouting the rules and not giving a shit, don't seem to be getting it/had it. Pisses me off.

Mittens030869 · 21/02/2021 15:26

I caught it before lockdown, at the end of February, as did DD2 (then 7). For me, it turned into long Covid, which I’m still struggling with now. DD2 was only unwell for 4 days (unpleasant though).

Mittens030869 · 21/02/2021 15:27

@QuornSausagesAreTheDevilsPenis

We were told the same thing as you.

BonnieDundee · 21/02/2021 15:28

Sorry I forgot to add

YABU I had broken the rules
YANBU I hadn't broken the rules

We (DH, DS14 & I) all had it mid Jan. I had been shielding since last March and not been anywhere, DS has been at home all the time obviously as not at school.

DH has been out if we’ve needed anything and had only been to the local tip and the Drs surgery so he caught it it one of those two places and brought it home, he was the one who tested positive first and was the most poorly with it.

So yes we followed the rules to the letter and still bloody caught it 🙄

CovidCrow · 21/02/2021 15:35

I declare the vote null and void.
(As posters had voted before OP told us which vote was which 😂)

oohmyback · 21/02/2021 15:53

I got it from a colleague at school. I was supervising a lesson and he needed to tell me some confidential info before he left the room so we were standing quite close. But it was his classroom so I probably more likely got it from touching something as he has his mask on having just entered the room. He tested positive 4 days before me so pretty sure that's where us was from although in a school full of kids (November so school not shut) we could have both actually got it from anyone 🤷🏻‍♀️

Didn't break any rules but prob should have put my mask back on when he entered the room and been more careful about hand washing and surface wiping. I was actually really careful outside of school as I felt I was a risk to others for carrying the virus, didn't see my mum for ages.
