Apologies for posting on AIBU but I wanted to use the voting function

If you got COVID, had you been breaking the rules before you caught it?

No need to comment if you dont wish to, just interested in the numbers

YABU I had broken the rules
YANBU I hadn't broken the rules

Followed all the rules. Got it from partner's work.

InvisibleDragon · 21/02/2021 18:41

Got it after 3 months working on a mental health ward, sometimes with covid-positive patients who found social distancing really hard.

Didn't get Covid at work, but from my husband, who got it doing a home visit (his first in about 3 months) to a patient whose children had been attending nursery school.

@Wardrobes123

We got covid over Christmas. DH had been shielding since March and the rest of us followed the rules very strictly because of shielding DH.

We must have got it through secondary school age DC or from my work (public facing role).

We didn’t see family or friends for months and didn’t even relax for Christmas.

My DH currently ventilated and in ICU. So unfortunately the result we were trying so desperately hard to avoid. It’s incredibly hard to see people rule breaking and moaning about how hard lockdown is.

Oh @Wardrobes123 ThanksThanks

It's good to see you on here although I'm so sorry that your DH is still so very poorly.
Lots of love to you & your family

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 21/02/2021 19:08

Caught it mid march last year when there were no rules. I isolated as was the rule at the time once it progressed to a fever.

Since then I've broken rules (more than one walk a day/ a few hugs/walked along closer than 2m with people/ sat on a bench in April/had one friend round for Xmas - she was alone but in a houseshare & v. depressed) To be honest anyone who'd like to judge on that can fucking bite me, and if I caught it again it would be worth it. Some of the rules have been absolutely bat shit, some have been inhumane.

Hodgeheg92 · 21/02/2021 19:18

So sorry Wardrobes my FiL was in hospital for something else and has caught covid and is sadly also very poorly. He's been shielding the entire time as he's so vulnerable.

I met my SiL and her son for a walk this week with my own children so, yes, I'm breaking the rules but hardly having anyone round for dinner or going to a rave. Her dad and our children's grandad will probably die in the next few days, so I don't regret giving us all that much needed time.

barregirl1 · 21/02/2021 20:07

Had it nearly a year ago as did DC (and before lockdown 1) so no rules broken. But as per similar posts told couldn’t have it as I hadn’t been abroad.

I remember being really frustrated at the time as to lack of medical help (on my own with 2 dc and v poorly) but also the list of Nhs symptoms. Had lack of taste /smell back then as did many others - just wish that the powers that be had listened, for others’sake.

Both myself and Ds were ill for circa 6 months. V grateful though - feel very lucky.

Iamsodonewith2020 · 21/02/2021 20:09

Suppose you could say I was breaking the rules as caught it working in a school with 0 social distancing going on and 30 little ones not in my household sitting on my lap every day

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 21/02/2021 20:10

I was following the non existent rules at the time.

Including looking after sick kids who had just come back from holiday less than a mile outside the relevant areas of Italy. For several hours until their parents got around to collecting them from where they were at home because their employers had refused to have them in their offices

optimisticpessimist01 · 21/02/2021 20:14

I had been following the rules and caught it from my job, teaching. Along with about 40 members of staff and around 150 students during that first term Sept-Dec (we are a large secondary school)

Stokey · 21/02/2021 20:15

We all got it at the end of last term from primary aged child. She tested positive on the last day of term after waking up with a temperature, and the rest of the family all tested positive 4-5 days later.
We've been pretty law abiding throughout, isolated properly each time anyone had a temperature, haven't seen friends or family, but it was spreading so fast in school at the end of last term, lots of people got ill.

Yes I'd been following the rules. Dd brought it home from school as a new year present Hmm (dh and I are key workers so she's in school 5 days a week)

But schools are covid safe obviously HmmHmm

PolytheneHam · 21/02/2021 20:28

I caught it on the ward I work on. No breaches of PPE.

SnackSizeRaisin · 21/02/2021 20:31

Daughter picked it up from nursery and passed it on to us. I had broken some rules (seen close family members indoors when not allowed) but not for several weeks before getting infected.

ThatDamnKrampus · 21/02/2021 20:35

I'm answering on DH and DD1 behalf as somehow I managed not to catch it (CV and wasnt asymptomatic as tested more than once during the isolation periods).

DH husband caught it on returning to work after xmas. He had two weeks off where we didn't see another soul apart from shopping delivery and then back to work and caught it within 5 days. Dd1 caught it from him. We have followed the rules rigidly as I am CV (not CEV) but apparently other staff at work had a NYE party and it was ripping through the staff. Utter cunts!

ThatDamnKrampus · 21/02/2021 20:37

@Wardrobes123 Flowers

SecretNutellaFix · 21/02/2021 20:44

We had been abiding by the rules fully.
My DH caught it at work, he had a text saying that he may have been near someone who had tested positive so when he began feeling dodgy the next evening, we booked in for tests the next day. His came out positive, mine was negative, but I immediately rang my place of work and told them I had to isolate, so when I took my second test 5 days later ( had to order a home test) I hadn't been in contact with anyone to transmit the virus for long enough.
Even though I've been back in work for weeks ( big mistake tbh) I still maintain distancing, wear a mask, wash my hands regularly. I don't want to run the risk of catching a variant and getting sicker than I was before. I saw what it has done to my husband- I know what it's doing to me, weeks later.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 21/02/2021 20:47

Had been sheltering for 11 months. Only saw my son who lives with me. He answered the doors and dealt with deliveries, mail, etc.
He was also sheltering. Then his school was opened and he went back, as it is his last semester of his last year. THREE WEEKS later, covid for him and passed on to me.

LakieLady · 21/02/2021 20:55

I got it in March, before the first lockdown, so no rules to break.

I've been very observant of the rules since then.

SandysMam · 21/02/2021 20:58

Nope got it from the kids at school.

SnowWhitesRestingBitchFace · 21/02/2021 20:58

No rule breaking here.

Both DH and I had it. I tested positive first then DH a few days later. The DCs were then tested as well and all tested negative. Really don't see how that was possible as the two younger once's ones particular are very tactile and constantly hugging and kissing me so my theory is that the DC had it first (this was back in November whilst schools were still open) with no symptoms before passing it on.

Borntohula · 21/02/2021 21:02

No one on here is going to admit to catching covid as a result of rule breaking. 😂

ConorMasonsWife · 21/02/2021 21:34

No, I got it at work 🤷🏻‍♀️

Calmisthemantra · 21/02/2021 21:36

Followed all the rules. But keyworker so 2 kids at school and 1 at nursery. Nursery child had to isolate due to positive case at nursery and then started with symptoms. The whole household then caught it Shock

Zoecarter · 21/02/2021 21:37

I caught it I had been following the rules I got a call to isolate as some one in my sons nursery had it then a week later me and my husband where positive x
