To really want a Ring doorbell?

Not even sure why I want one. I just do! I never buy myself anything and I really fancy getting one. Problem is, I'm not sure how to tell the difference and they're all different prices. Costco seem to have a good deal but can't tell if it's better than Amazon as all have different descriptions. Any advice welcomed!

I love mine. I've got the Ring 2 which costs about £80. Wouldn't be without it now

BluePeterVag · 21/02/2021 01:42

I love ours, but in winter it gets condensation on the lens which makes it pretty useless. I have to go and wipe the camera before bedtime. I googled that problem and it seems to be quite common.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 21/02/2021 01:45

We have a Ring 3+. Originally had a Ring 3 which quickly developed a fault but the customer service was excellent and they replaced and upgraded it at no cost to us. I do like the extra piece of mind it gives

Inpersuitofhappiness · 21/02/2021 01:51

Yanbu. I've sort of decided it was something that we didn't need until tonight when we went to do the weekly shop (disability and needed help with it so took DH) someone tried to break into our house whilst DD and Ddog were at home.
I think its worth the peace of mind now. Most of our neighbours have one so now I'm joining the club. No one seems to use anything else here

EwwwwDavid · 21/02/2021 01:56

Which one do you have @Inpersuitofhappiness ?

Mines been absolutely rubbish, it takes so long to connect to my phone that by the time I can see who's there they've already gone!! Also, half the time it doesn't ring at all

Smashedavacado · 21/02/2021 10:52

I suggested my DM get one last week following a couple of late night callers at her door asking for money. She got the Ring 2 (£89) and a separate door chime (£29) from Argos. DH fitted it for her then decided to order one for us - he got the Ring 3 which is now set up & working well. We have linked them to our Alexa devices plus our phones so notifications seem to ring throughout the house!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/02/2021 10:54

I’ve got one. But I read I needed to subscribe to something to make it work so it’s still in the box.

Bumpsadaisie · 21/02/2021 10:55

What is it please?

If you hold out till May the new wired one is coming out that's only going to be 49

You don't need to subscribe but subscribing let's you use multiple cameras and store footage for a month.

For just a video doorbell it's free

megletsecond · 21/02/2021 10:58

I don't quite understand how they work.

They don't seem to come with a "bell" (that's extra?) and I'd need a new phone to fit the app on. And I'd have to pay for a certain level of recording? And they need charging Confused.

Cloudyrainsham · 21/02/2021 10:58

I’ve got a ring camera rather than a doorbell. The picture quality is amazing.

I'm not sure I'd have peace of mind from being able to see my house being broken into from the supermarket Shock

Did the burglars ring the bell?

skippy67 · 21/02/2021 11:00

Loads of people in my area have had theirs stolen...

MaskellEtt · 21/02/2021 11:02

This is fucking madness. Most people on MM don’t even seem to answer their doors when someone knocks. This just adds a whole other level of weirdness.

I’m happy with my door knocker. Why would I need to know someone was at my door when I wasn’t home Confused

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 21/02/2021 11:02

Our doorbell triggers from motion near it, or a bell ring. We’ve been happy with it. Had it about 4 years I think so it’s probably an early version. My dad had some issues with his, and customer service were good.

Weepingwillow22 · 21/02/2021 11:03

Can you use the existing doorbell wiring? I can't be bothered to keep changing the battery.

Laufeythejust · 21/02/2021 11:03

I would go for wired home security where possible. In my area they have been using WiFi blockers so any wireless cctv systems were completely useless.

fairydustandpixies · 21/02/2021 11:04

I've had mine for 2yrs. I live alone so it gives me a feeling of security, especially as I can use it to see what's going on if I hear a noise at night. I also have a ring camera for the back of the house. Mine is connected to my phone and my Alexa devices.

Stegosaurus11 · 21/02/2021 11:05

We love ours, mainly got it to keep an eye on the car overnight incase anyone tried steeling it.

OrigamiOwl · 21/02/2021 11:06

We have an Eufy one, rather than a Ring. The storage is on an SD card rather than needing a monthly subscription.

Outbutnotoutout · 21/02/2021 11:06

Where is the best place to buy one from?

megletsecond · 21/02/2021 11:08

Our police have set up a scheme for people to log their cameras so they can use them to check footage if something dodgy is going on. We have a local drug dealer and mates it would be nice to crack down on. They've turned the street lights off too, a camera would make me feel safer.

I don't have one, do you sit and watch it all night?

I do see on Facebook lots of videos of things being stolen by men in grey hoodies, black joggers and black shoes all totally identifiable and looking exactly like the thieves in all the other videos so it doesn't seem to deter anyone in my area.
