To really want a Ring doorbell?

Not even sure why I want one. I just do! I never buy myself anything and I really fancy getting one. Problem is, I'm not sure how to tell the difference and they're all different prices. Costco seem to have a good deal but can't tell if it's better than Amazon as all have different descriptions. Any advice welcomed!

Get one OP! They're fantastic. We fairly recently got the Ring Video Doorbell Pro. I love it! Great for deliveries, great for security. They link to Alexa and if you pay £2.50 a month you can go access old videos and go though history which has twice helped us out so far. I love having the app on both my iPhone and Apple Watch. Do it and come back with your thoughts! Grin

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair yes they rang the doorbell quite a few times in quick succession, banged on the door a few times then tried the handle repeatedly.
DD called and asked if I was messing around with the door. I was like =/ nope. Its probably someone just trying to deliver to the wrong house. The doorbell went again and the dog was going mental. Different tone to his barking. DD looked and said whoever it was was trying to open the door. I think it was the dog who scared them off.
We have people trying to get into cars here most nights and we've had 4 burglaries in the past 2 weeks in our small area.

Hoping the doorbells going to be a deterrent, if not then I'll atleast get footage of the next one that tries to get into our house.

Hoping that Ddog has scared them off. He's big, he was a bit aggro and he's bloody noisy.

@StareIntotheMaggotDrawer you can adjust the volume on the doorbell in the Ring app on your phone.

StareIntotheMaggotDrawer · 22/02/2021 10:34

ginger thanks but I think that’s just the ringer volume not the speaker. At least on mine it didn’t make much difference

myneighbourisaCF · 22/02/2021 10:45

I love mine - it helped find out why my parcels were going next door and not being left in my safe place. Turns out neighbour was coming out when postman knocked the door and telling him to give them the parcel as i'd asked them to take it in! Also when the amazon guy would leave my parcel they would come out and take it in.

For no reason other than they wanted to complain to me that postman was knocking their door and they were doing me a great service by taking in my parcels and then grilling me about where I had been, what i was doing, where DP had been what he was doing just because they are CF's!

Thankfully since i got it, my parcels get left in my safe place, and stay there Grin

also we get a LOT of cold callers, JW's, and has been a lot of thefts of dogs so i can either ignore it if i can clearly see its a sales person or tell them to sod off if they look dodgy. One guy rang the doorbell the other week and kept asking if i was home and if i was to come to the door, was getting rather irate because i wouldn't confirm or deny if i was at home! Shock

anyway - long story short, i love mine - get one Grin

I love the way there's a monthly subscription fee, they've really roped you in long term

ComfortablyGlum · 22/02/2021 11:35

I have a ring 3 which came with a free Alexa Echo Show in the Black Friday sale. Absolutely love it but I’d advise a spare battery if you can’t hardwire it. Battery only lasts about a month before needing a charge.

The subscription is handy but not essential- I didn’t have it after the free trial for awhile but recently reactivated it as our area has been targeted for car thefts since Christmas. Practically our whole close has them now and it does make things feel more secure.

I don’t think £24.99 for a year is too bad for the peace of mind you get. I’d say it’s a definite deterrent to the petty criminal looking for easy targets. The motion sensor can be adjusted to only alert for ‘human’ shape activity so if you have foxes or other wildlife rummaging in your front garden you won’t get an alert for that at 3am!

waitingpatientlyforspring · 22/02/2021 11:35

Live ours, got it via Amazon before Christmas.

Lemmeout · 22/02/2021 11:37

I have one but turned it off. Amazon need to improve their security and promise not to sell their customers data.

Lemmeout · 22/02/2021 11:37

All your data goes to the cloud. It’s been reportedly used in some ways that I do not agree with.

DynamoKev · 22/02/2021 11:38

Some nobber was using my e-mail address for their ring doorbell. I changed the password Grin

Frogartist · 22/02/2021 11:39

I don't particularly want Amazon to record my face and map my movements and know who my friends are. Intrusive.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 22/02/2021 11:48

We have a Ring2 and have had it a few years. We love it, we also have other Ring cameras around the outside of our property. I am always convinced that when I live view I will hit the siren button by mistake.

We have one on a solar charger because it is high up above a door and Dh has a schedule to change all the batteries as we bought spare ones. We also have the plug in chime.

Pre -covid I could guarantee that a parcel would get delivered in the 10 minutes I did a school run. It meant Ds could answer the Ring on my phone and tell them to leave the parcel on the doorstep.

Hmm
QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep · 22/02/2021 11:52

@skippy67

Loads of people in my area have had theirs stolen...
It's a motion detector, you just change the settings. This means it can alert you if someone is within the motion zone you set up. So for clarity, burglars do not need to ring the bell. Smile
Greencabin · 22/02/2021 12:20

Our Ring system is brilliant - there had been lots of break ins (some violent lines too) round where we live . Someone actually tried our door in the early hours ( my DH heard the gate go then the door handle jiggle, jumped out of bed and saw a guy waking off quickly down the st!)

Ours is connected to our Echo device and we have a camera at the front and the back of the house. Its definitely made me feel safer at night and during the day, I have a young toddler so when my DH is at work, I can see who is at the door before answering it etc. Sad that we have to do that to feel safe .

Greencabin · 22/02/2021 12:21

I should of proof read that - predictive text is a bugger

Ring will replace them for free! It states online. I think you would need a crime no though.
Sumwin1 · 22/02/2021 12:24

I’ve been looking at the Ring door view cam. It slots into your key whole, still pondering.

Truolbas · 22/02/2021 12:47

Only if you want the recordings. I use mine without the ring subscription.
Sumwin1 · 22/02/2021 15:48

Can I ask what the subscription actually does please? Is it so you can save the recordings.

Sumwin1 · 22/02/2021 15:50

@Cloudyrainsham

I’ve got a ring camera rather than a doorbell. The picture quality is amazing.
Can I have which one you have please
Grimbelina · 22/02/2021 15:51

Eufy here, great quality and no subscription. I think the security is better too as the info. is stored on a hub in your home (you can still view it from an app too).

CheapLeggings · 22/02/2021 16:12

I bought a Ring 2 in an Amazon sale and have just set it up today. So far so good 👍 I got it as frequent cold calling doorstep sellers, but I also know my neighbours well so didn't want to just stop answering the door. Now I don't have to move my bum off the sofa to see who's there Grin

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 22/02/2021 16:52

Am I being stupid - or wouldn't people just nick the doorbell (with a facemask and hoodie) before/instead of breaking in?

Most delivery and 'other' people ignore doorbells and bang on the door, anyhow.
