Thought it would be amazing: it was cheap and unpleasant

Lotus Biscoff spread. So many people rave about it and how they’re addicted and it’s better than Nutella. So I got some, for the first time, to put on pancakes.

And it’s rubbish: like prechewed biscuits in oil 🤮 I was expecting something brilliant and it was 🤢

Pancake spread with Gu salted caramel spread wrapped around a banana was divine though.

YANBU Lotus Biscoff is rank
YABU Lotus Biscoff is marvellous and perhaps my sense of taste is wrong

Unfortunately for my waistline I love the spread. Only the smooth though, it melts lovely and on any kind of warm bread, toast, pancakes, waffles.....the options are endless !
I've drawn a line at eating it out of the jar with a spoon though !

luanmapo · 16/02/2021 23:27

Another vote for the crunchy biscoff and not the smooth one.
It’s delicious on toasted cinnamon bagels. With butter underneath of course. Yum yum.

Scarlettpixie · 16/02/2021 23:29

Its lotus biscuit spread. Not sure why you weren’t expecting it to taste of mushed up biscuits.

SonjaMorgan · 16/02/2021 23:35

I hate it but my DC love it on apple slices.

EverythingsComingUpRoses · 17/02/2021 00:16

Isn't it a slimming world pinch of nom fad?

Seriously it's like people watching Delia and then all the supermarkets selling out of cranberries -except in pre-chewed biscuit form

Norwaydidnthappen · 17/02/2021 00:24

My DC like Aldi’s version more.

GeidiPrimes · 17/02/2021 00:34

I thought you were going to say you "treated" yourself to a naked butler!

I've never tried it on it's own, but it makes a nice ingredient in things like cheesecake. Probably good in brownies.

MsMiaWallace · 17/02/2021 09:05

Have it porridge you say....?! I must try this witchcraft.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/02/2021 09:20

like prechewed biscuits in oil

You're really selling it to me there OP Grin.

But seriously, what do you expect? It pretty much is prechewed biscuits in oil (ingredients: biscuits, sugar syrup, oil, sugar) albeit 'chewed' by a machine but the results are pretty much the same.

Sometimes, just because something is popular, doesn't mean that it's any good.

ExpatAl · 17/02/2021 17:23

Spéculos biscuits are good. The spread is wrong.

littlemisskt · 17/02/2021 17:37

I love it but only with sharp raspberry jam. I couldn’t eat it alone or with chocolate like most people suggest.

Smileyk · 17/02/2021 17:43

Yes it's gross, but not so bad in a buttercream type topping on a cake.

stackemhigh · 17/02/2021 17:47

I don't get the deal with Biscoff biscuits, I think they're tiny and cheap tasting. I would prefer value brand custard creams tbh!

notalwaysalondoner · 17/02/2021 17:52

Like marshmallow fluff - so much promise, so cloying and sickly.

Teachertired92 · 17/02/2021 17:59

Really nice mixed in icing for cakes or in the cake mix! Made lotus biscoff cupcakes with it once and they were so nice!

BullshitometerCalibrator · 17/02/2021 18:00

YABU I love it, although must admit only the smooth version as it's easier to spread so you don't put too much on whatever you're having it on. I love it on toast with sliced banana on top, or in and on a cheesecake. I keep getting emails from Patisserie Valerie about their new Lotus Biscoff cake, but whilst it looks good, they're taking the piss with the amount of buttercream around it (waaaay too much!) - the cake to buttercream ratio should be a crime. Definitely not a fan of the crunchy spread version though - way too gritty for me, but then I don't like crunchy peanut butter either. Obviously depends upon personal taste.

florascotia2 · 17/02/2021 18:09

I don't have sweet tooth and don't like biscuits - any kind - or Nutella, but if the stuff has got palm oil in it, then why on earth do you buy it?
You're wrecking the planet/wildlife for your childen. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_and_environmental_impact_of_palm_oil

Most of us alive as adults right now will escape pretty much unscathed, but for the next generation, and their children....

OP sorry to derail your thread. I expect most people won't care....

duckduckswan · 17/02/2021 18:11

Pre-chewed biscuit is a very accurate description. It’s nasty 🤢

Jogonandshutup · 17/02/2021 18:17

Food of the gods - sorry OP ❤️

hulahooper2 · 17/02/2021 18:18

I like it as an ingredient in fudge cakes etc but not as a spread

Vixyboo · 17/02/2021 18:24

@MustardMitt

I also thought it was going to be amazing and thought it was like prechewed biscuits. Like when a toddler decides to share and you don’t realise they’ve slobbered all over it Grin
I wish I hadn't experienced toddler slobber but alas I have
KobaniDaughters · 17/02/2021 18:26

YABU

I tried it for the first time last night (also on pancakes with banana) and loved it, though you only need a little. I like PP
Suggestion of a thin spread on slices of apple

pavlovarules · 17/02/2021 18:35

I have no opinion on the Lotus biscoff stuff as I've never tried it but OP, you are spot on with the GU chocolate & salted caramel spread. Although I find bananas unnecessary. Managed 4 pancakes with the GU spread yesterday Smile

Emeraldshamrock · 17/02/2021 18:49

I wouldn't expect it to taste like anything other than chewed biscuit. 🤮
I enjoy the biscuit.

girasol · 17/02/2021 18:50

OMG had Gu salted caramel spread yesterday for the first time OMG
