Need ideas from women smarter than me.

Car key is one of those that just needs to be in the car to start.

I know the stupid twatting thing is in there for that reason plus I couldn’t find it before I went in the house after a now regretted trip to the shop.

I have emptied it. Completely. Kids Car seats included. But it’s nowhere to be seen.

It defies logic and ashamed to say Iv had a bit of a cry. 2 hours out of my working day.

Ideas?

In your pocket, so seems to be there every time you get in?

notsorighteousthesedays · 12/02/2021 15:10

Is it on you - a never before used pocket maybe?

tywysoges · 12/02/2021 15:10

In your pockets or handbag? Grin
On the side of your seat, on that gap between the door and seat, maybe?

Twickerhun · 12/02/2021 15:11

Between the back and seat bottom of the drivers chair? Or tucked down the side of the drivers seat?

Twickerhun · 12/02/2021 15:12

Totally this is the kind of thing I would do if only I haven’t washed the car key thing on a 60 degree wash until it died. I now walk everywhere

KatherineJaneway · 12/02/2021 15:13

Handbag 👜

Backhometothenorth · 12/02/2021 15:14

Is it on the roof of the car?? I spent an hour pulling the car apart in Tesco's car park after putting the kids in their car seats before spotting I had put the blooming things up there!

FFSAllTheGoodOnesArereadyTaken · 12/02/2021 15:14

I did that last week, my car keys also have my house keys on them and they were still in the door when I'd nipped in for something

Takemetothebar · 12/02/2021 15:15

I’d say it’s under the seat, or between the seat and centre console/armrest bit. Down slipped just under the seat racking....

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 12/02/2021 15:15

Agree try between the seats as quite small areas maybe use a stick type thing poke down see if you feel anything.
How close does car need to be could it have fallen under or be in side in the house by door or dropped on floor ?
Sometimes in these situations I find stepping away for 10 mins, having a coffee then checking again helps .
Good luck

minou123 · 12/02/2021 15:15

OK, let's visualise.

You leave the shop. You unlock the car. You put your shopping in the boot/back seat.
Then you get in to the car.
You mess around putting your handbag on the seat next to you. Complain about the snow.Grin
You put your seat belt on.
You put the key.......here.
Turn on the car and drive home.

Where did you visualise the key?

mcmooberry · 12/02/2021 15:17

Could you have dropped in in the driveway when you got out of the car? That might be close enough. In the side pocket of drivers seat?

FlyingSuitcase · 12/02/2021 15:17

Hiding under/alongside one of the front seats. That's where my phone always ends up and I'm always convinced there's nothing there until I ring it.

mcmooberry · 12/02/2021 15:18

Down your trouser leg or trapped in clothes somehow?

GalOopNorth · 12/02/2021 15:18

In your bra or pocket
Under the seat
Down the side of the seat

flobberdobberrr · 12/02/2021 15:19

Why do you need it now? Can you not start it to get home?

randomsabreuse · 12/02/2021 15:21

In the gap between the seats and the door/floor or centre console is a favourite hiding place for my keys and phone. It's a bugger to see and there so many random lumps and bumps of car innards that it's hard to feel too.

Perfectly positioned to catch something that has wriggled out of a pocket!

Didicat · 12/02/2021 15:22

Have you checked in the boot? I have put them in with the shopping before driven home and not been able to find them. Not in the shopping bags but loose in the boot.

Tarantallegra · 12/02/2021 15:23

Is your drive safe? I think the best thing you could do is take a break from looking for it for a bit, have a nice cuppa and try again when you feel a bit better.

BarbaraofSeville · 12/02/2021 15:24

Boot, glove box, under seats?

Slipped under any little flaps and covers etc? Have you had a good look with a torch?

Yes to any pockets in case it's on your person.

I feel your pain. In the last month, one of my car keys has been lost and I'm using the slightly crappy spare. DP thinks he has lost it, but I'm not 100% convinced it wasn't me, because I have lots of form for this type of thing Blush. But at least he thinks it's his fault for once Grin.

We also managed to drop the house keys in the supermarket car park and only discovered this when we got home and couldn't get in the house. We had to go back and fortunately someone had handed them in because by that time it was past 10 pm and we were starting to think about where we could go and stay the night so we didn't have to get a locksmith out that late.

Tish008 · 12/02/2021 15:27

How close to the car does it need to be to work? Could it be between the car and house? Or under the car?

BetsyBigNose · 12/02/2021 15:27

Huge empathy, I've managed to drop the car key between the seat and centre console before now and in spite of knowing exactly where it was, I just couldn't reach it and ended up having to get the AA to come out and take the seat apart. Blush

I second a PP's suggestion to take a break, then go back with a fresh pair of eyes. Even better - is there someone else you can ask (neighbour?) to have a look for you, sometimes you can go a bit 'blind' to what you're searching for? Good luck, please don't be too hard on yourself, it can happen to anyone.

AryaStarkWolf · 12/02/2021 15:28

I have that type of key for my car as well, is it one where if you put your hand on the outside of either of the front door handles it locks? If so try that to make sure it's actually inside the car rather than on you or has fallen outside the car, it won't lock if the key is inside but it will if it's on you (or outside)

IthinkIm · 12/02/2021 15:29

Under the car?

DayBath · 12/02/2021 15:30

In the boot where you put your shopping bags?

In the shopping bags?

In the spare tyre under the boot liner? I once lost a key through a little hole in the boot lining and it dropped through into the spare tyre compartment.
