Need ideas from women smarter than me.

Car key is one of those that just needs to be in the car to start.

I know the stupid twatting thing is in there for that reason plus I couldn’t find it before I went in the house after a now regretted trip to the shop.

I have emptied it. Completely. Kids Car seats included. But it’s nowhere to be seen.

It defies logic and ashamed to say Iv had a bit of a cry. 2 hours out of my working day.

Ideas?

Under the pedals.

On the parcel shelf?? It's so frustrating when things like this happen. Take a break and look again with a clear head.

Birdsofafeather17 · 12/02/2021 15:55

This is what helps me. Go back in the car and sit in the drivers seat. Imagine you are just getting in to drive it. Where do you think you would have put it?

dopenguinsdance · 12/02/2021 15:57

Breathe. You know it's in there. Sit in the drivers seat and cast your mind back to when you got in the car, before you 'lost' the keys. Be systematic; go slowly front to back and use a torch.Check under the mats and in any cavities eg. (is it stuck under the foot controls?; alongside the handbrake?) Look in the doorside cubbies. and the oddest one...did you put them in a back jeans pocket? Were you wearing a jacket? An uncle had form for keys wriggling up from back pockets into his jacket- freqeuntly found in jacket lining or dropped outside the house. If all else fails, go inside and make a cuppa, offer up a quick prayer to the god of small lost things/St Jude. When you do go back to the car, you'll spot the little feckers immediatley, and somewhere obvious that you've already looked.Good luck.

Mine doesn’t even turn on if the keys are under the car, I get a message saying remote not detected

But they could have fallen out after the OP got back and (presumably) got out the car to start searching.

FlyingSuitcase · 12/02/2021 15:57

@CrackersDontMatter

I once offered a lollipop to whoever found the car keys. 18 month old Dd apparently knew EXACTLY where they were. In the photo cupboard. Where she had put them. Might be worth a shot? Hope you find them.
That's hilarious! What a clever little pickle though.

If so she will be able to know for sure if she goes back into the car and tries to start it, it won't start anymore if they're no longer in it

Oh I read the OP as she knows the keys are in the car because she can still start it. Ignore me if I read it wrong.

Yes - have you tried this, OP?

Pineapples3 · 12/02/2021 16:06

I have the same sort of key - stupid fucking idea. Every time I’ve lost it it’s been down the side of my seat. Could be wayyyy down.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 12/02/2021 16:06

You might be right. I read it as she knows the key is in there because she could start the car and drive to the shop and back . But I'm not sure if she has tried to start it since getting home.

dopenguinsdance · 12/02/2021 16:09

If the keys aren't within a certain radius of the car, the engine cuts out anyway as an anti-theft device. If the engine switches on when the starter motor button's pressed, the keys are in or very close to the car. Apologies to OP if her car is truly keyless and the engine starts as soon as the key is in range, but I don't think it can work that way because of the safety issue?

ClaudiaWankleman · 12/02/2021 16:11

Yes - I once lost my phone to the inside of the seat - it was so far in my hand hurt to reach in and get it. I was mid forearm deep!

Any chance one of your kids has a metal detector? Give that a wave around and it might help.

MindGrapes · 12/02/2021 16:11

LOOK IN THE LOCK OF THE CAR BOOT

No reason Blush

MindGrapes · 12/02/2021 16:13

Oh hang on i thought it was an old fashioned key... sorry

AryaStarkWolf · 12/02/2021 16:14

Those type of keys don't actually have part that fits into a lock, they're just plastic box things with a couple of buttons on them
InkieNecro · 12/02/2021 16:15

Under the mats? In the back seat pocket? In a little drawer thing for loose change? Under the sunshade?

LadyEloise · 12/02/2021 16:16

DH bought me a Tile.
Now I can find my keys or my phone.
For me a life changer Blush

MindGrapes · 12/02/2021 16:16

Not sure I'd heard of these keys before but they seem a terrible idea!

AgnesNaismith · 12/02/2021 16:17

In the boot down the side or in one of the shopping bags!

Cyw2018 · 12/02/2021 16:17

Tucked into the rail that the car seat moves backward/forward on... Driver or passenger side.

dopenguinsdance · 12/02/2021 16:18

No use to you now, OP but when you do find your keys, you could attach a Tile or Chipolo to them and save hassle in the future.

AryaStarkWolf · 12/02/2021 16:20

I like mine but I have a strict system of always leaving it in the same pocket of my bag.
MixedUpFiles · 12/02/2021 16:20

It’s wedged in the rail of the seat or just above it. So when you reach under you just feel metal and plastic and nothing moves so you don’t even realize you are touching it. It may be wedged on the passenger side. Ask me how I know?

ItsFriyay · 12/02/2021 16:21

I mislaid house keys a while ago (they were the spare set).
Looked everywhere, one day getting out the car and glanced down and they stuck between the front passenger seat and console bit in the middle. They’d been in their weeks.
