Need ideas from women smarter than me.

Car key is one of those that just needs to be in the car to start.

I know the stupid twatting thing is in there for that reason plus I couldn’t find it before I went in the house after a now regretted trip to the shop.

I have emptied it. Completely. Kids Car seats included. But it’s nowhere to be seen.

It defies logic and ashamed to say Iv had a bit of a cry. 2 hours out of my working day.

Ideas?

As others have said - is it on you somewhere? Can you adk someone else to see if they can start it to eliminate that?

Then - where did you put the shopping? Boot? Check thoroughly again in there. Same if on the seat - where could it have fallen to if there? Check under the seat. My DH lost an expensive pair of sunglasses; turned the car upside down - and many months later found them caught in some netting under the seat. Down side of seats also a good bet....

tywysoges · 12/02/2021 15:33

Obviously we don’t what car op has, but mine doesn’t work if the keys are outside, not even if you’re seating on the driver seat and holding it out. Works if the keys are in the boot though.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 12/02/2021 15:34

Cuff of folded over jeans
Under the car
In your hand
In bag of shopping

...not that I have one or anything...

SoupDragon · 12/02/2021 15:36

Whenever mine is missing it is between the passenger seat and the centre console, down where the seatbelt socket is.

DayBath · 12/02/2021 15:36

Do you have anything magnetic that could have caught it? My Fitbit watch clasp is always picking up coins and teaspoons...maybe a handbag clasp or something like that it could have accidentally stuck to?

Left in supermarket trolley?

I spent over an hour looking for house keys last week.
(found them by deciding I really didn't need to go out, made tea, sat down, spotted them immediately).
I ordered one of those gizmos that has a key ring that bleeps when you loose stuff.
I've not set it up yet, but I'm very concerned that the central transmitter unit is quite compact; I'm sure that I'll just loose that.

Highwoman · 12/02/2021 15:39

Pocket in the door or the boot?

Notonthestairs · 12/02/2021 15:40

Mine slid under toddler car seat.

(DH had to travel for an hour to let me in to house and then back to work Blush)

She drove home so they have to either be in the car or on her
FossilisedFanny · 12/02/2021 15:45

You need to strip naked Op , then get in the car so you can eliminate it being on you.
Then you can enlist the help of all the neighbours who have come out to see why you are skipping about in the nude Grin

In your coat lining if there's a hole in the pocket?

DayBath · 12/02/2021 15:46

Get changed completely and then try and drive it to work out whether it's on you or in the car. Could have slipped through a hole in your pocket into your coat lining maybe.

I don't have this type of car so I'm not sure how it works - if the key fell underneath the parked car then would it start and drive off leaving the key behind?

DayBath · 12/02/2021 15:47

If you ask someone else to look they will find in two seconds flat. It's always the way with a fresh pair of eyes! Grin

I don't think it would but even if it did start it would stop a couple of seconds later. I've gotten out of my car before with the key in my bag while my husband was driving and it starts beeping and the car dies after 2 seconds
Megan2018 · 12/02/2021 15:49

I do this a lot. I have also cried. It is always either:

The boot of the car
The shopping bags
The car roof

CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/02/2021 15:49

Is one of your kids old enough to start the car without you?

If it starts without you then the key is in the car.

If it doesn't then it's on you!

And the seat runners catch my key quite often, bloody annoying!

TJ17 · 12/02/2021 15:49

Does your car have a button on the handles to lock it?

If so, the way to tell if it's on you or in the car is by getting out and trying to lock the door.
My car will beep if the key is still inside the car and I try to lock it.

If the door locks you know the key is on your person somewhere!

DayBath · 12/02/2021 15:50

Did the kids go with you? Depending on their age maybe it's been secreted in a mouth, nose or ear? Grin

boredwiththeoldname · 12/02/2021 15:50

Is it still in the ignition?

AryaStarkWolf · 12/02/2021 15:52

It's not that type of key, you don't put it in an ignition, it just has to be in the car and you push a button and the car will start
emmathedilemma · 12/02/2021 15:53

Down the side / under the seats? (speaking from experience here). Couldn't see or feel it, only a big magnet found it!

Agree with this.

Also look under the car - has it fallen out when you got out?

TenShortStories · 12/02/2021 15:53

Inside the tissue box?

CrackersDontMatter · 12/02/2021 15:53

I once offered a lollipop to whoever found the car keys. 18 month old Dd apparently knew EXACTLY where they were. In the photo cupboard. Where she had put them. Might be worth a shot? Hope you find them.

Mine doesn’t even turn on if the keys are under the car, I get a message saying remote not detected I went outside and tested it in the name of science.
