To think roast potatoes are perfectly acceptable alongside beef casserole?

I'd obviously eat roasties - never turned down a roastie. But somehow mash or new potatoes seem more fitting.

Though oddly a chip seems less odd than roasties.

I wouldn't say no - but I'm having a baked potato with my casserole tonight.

I wouldn't serve it, but wouldn't be massively offended. But I like mash, or even plain boiled potatoes to soak up the lovely casserole gravy

Just meat, veg and gravy, isn’t it? So not dissimilar make up to a roast. I do roast potatoes with chicken chasseur from time to time. Sometimes mash just seems like too much effort to me.

I normally default to mash, but roast potatoes would go just as well I think.
