Roast potatoes are acceptable with anything. Including mashed potatoes.

Roast potatoes go with anything in our house!

Mash is my first choice for a casserole, or having the potatoes cooked in the casserole towards the end of cooking time. You can have it all in a bowl and eat it with a spoon that way. But the idea of crispy roasties dipped into a gravy also makes them an acceptable accompaniment to a casserole.

You are perfectly reasonable! We often have roast potatoes with stew etc, prefer the contrast in texture. I personally find mash too soft with casserole type meals but we do have it occasionally

He could always make his own tea if he finds them objectionable. Personally I’d seize any opportunity to eat roast potatoes.

Yummy ! Typical of kids I have DD 18 and DS 20 they always find something to complain about hahaha and I always cook fresh prepared meals from scratch it really ticks me off ! Tonight we having a Boxing Day tray bake !! X

As far as I am concerned roast potatoes are perfectly acceptable with any meal.

I love roast potatoes and would happily eat them with casserole, but mash goes better imo.

We have dumplings AND either roasties or mash 😂

Would prefer mash myself - soaks up the gravy. But if you're cooking, roasties are fine!

Wouldn't be my first choice but I'd never turn down a roast potato, you can eat them with anything.

It seems odd to me to do any sides with casserole. To me casseroles are one pot meals, no sides required.
